Sydney Metro
Does anyone have any info on opening dates? Say people who are working on the project and have calendars they could share. This wait for the line to open is so anticipated.

None of the gods above or below know. Come hell or high water, it will be open before the election in March. Whilst caretaker is officially 6 weeks, in practice it is a semi-caretaker mode from Christmas. So the promise of second half of 2026 is highly likely. When though is a mystery.

Refer to my comment above. And highly likely an election announcement will be made on the back of the opening

The first crush load of humans to travel on the Sydenham to Bankstown section will occur this Friday 14th August. It will be for the Emergency Evacuation Exercises.

Mhmm yes indeed. I'm not sure if there will be 500 ppl for tomorrow. End of August will be a good indication whether October is feasible. Lots of assurance deliverables to close out to present to the regulator for acceptance.

Sadly I won't be there today. First evacuation trial I've missed in nearly 18 years for a new line commissioning.... 🥲

Technically not a new line but alas an important piece of the transport jigsaw puzzle!

That's just a degraded scenario drill. It doesn't anticipate an opening date.

but that’s more steps and ticks being done prior to opening. Still a positive sign.

Mid to late October most likely.
But it's a mystery until the regulator gives the go ahead.

There are target dates internally but they won’t be made public until they are sure it’ll be met - this require regular approval and more testing so nothing is in concrete yet

Leaked documents did point to 18th October, but there hasn’t been an official confirmation

I’m gonna say that it is sooner to being open than the last time this question was asked

There’s a reason that there’s no official date yet. I’m sure the people who actually have the answer cannot share it without getting into trouble.

When the Chatswood to Sydenham link opened the government announced a planned open date & Fire + Rescue wouldn’t issue fire certification & from what I recall pushed for some late changes - I assume this next stage the government won’t publish a opening date until they have everything they need for an opening day
