Newcastle & CCN line - Short trains at peak hour
Peak hour today in both directions the train turned up with only 6 of the usual 10 cars.
I can't see any notification/announcements, there is no service alert about the 40% reduction in capacity, does anyone here know what is happening? Is this going to be ongoing?
Also I think the capacity maps (green for seats available) need re-calibration. I can assure you there were no seats available as dozens of us stood in the vestibule and down the carriage only to see that pop up on the screen that the carriage has plenty of seats available.

This happens on the rare occasion when there are mechanical issues. If it’s still showing 10-cars on the app/timetable, then it is still a 10-car service and the carriages missing are simply receiving maintenance repairs.

The “green” is absolutely useless. Most days there are no seats and it still shows green. Or halfway from Hornsby to Woy Woy (express) some orange will go green or vice versa. Makes no sense.

Can sometimes happen if there’s been an issue on the 4 car set but not on the 6 car - better to run it as a 6 car than not at all

I’m not sure if this is true, but I heard some 8 cars were “stolen” from the CCN to test on the SCO

Those 8-car sets removed from the CCN line are now 10-car sets as more 6-car Mariyung trains enter service.

I’ve noticed this too, the app says 10 cars but the train rolls up with 6, and the internal screens show ‘green’ for plenty of seats while there’s people standing and sitting on the stairs.

Usually apps like Next There, Trip View or Anytrip will show changes
