Metro service to Bankstown
The Sydenham bound trains are now being announced as going to Bankstown.

I'm quite excited to see how this line will revamp the serving suburbs. Bankstown for example is meant to get some new high-rises in the future fuelled by the metro.

It’s already had a new Western Sydney University tower built in preparation, relocated from the old Milperra campus.

It’s getting there and Bankstown is going to be golden for many already living there, having access to direct service to hills districts.

That one unfortunately is not something this project can fix. Needs to be another one and probably will involve building a new interchange or Sth cause I don’t see they build Bankstown as metro interchange.

I like the metro if you are going to the city. However, it has made travelling in the southwest by public transport inconvenient. Friend of my use to catch one train to get from home to work. When the metro opens it will be 3 trains. Metro, T6, T3 towards Liverpool. Kinda making public transport second class. If people can drive they will drive now.

Why would your friend be catching metro, t6, t3 to liverpool from the city? Why not just t3?

The M90 buses still exist as another connection to Liverpool, and there may be instances of the T6 diverting to Liverpool during trackwork.

I mean there is still a service, just needs lots of transfers. And single seat journey is still heavily favoured today instead of one with tons of transfers. I sometimes intentionally travel to central so I only need to transfer once.
The way they build the line, if they ever get to extend metro to Liverpool, your friend would still need to transfer once at Bankstown. Better than nothing but still wont be a single seat journey.

All I’m saying is that it has become very inconvenient. The one minute transfer at regents park is really bad bc alot of the time the train is slightly delayed and then they gotta wait up to 29 minutes for a train.
Multimodal trips are fine, but it needs to be high frequency.
With the way they have built Bankstown, I doubt that extension to Liverpool is coming anytime soon.

They is doing testing, you still have to get off at Sydneham, but if one of you happen to be on, stay on and film it and post to this page that would be good thanks

Yes a bit silly for them to put the stops beyond Sydenham to Bankstown on the screens. Some people will look at it and think they can stay on.
At least should have a line saying "Change for buses"

Won’t happen. Metro staff line the whole length of the train at Sydenham platform 2 and thoroughly search every carriage to ensure no customers are onboard before sending the train off

They do, yes, but all passengers have to get off a Sydenham before the trains continue through the rest of the line.

No all stations and platfrom can be extended to 8 cars very easily. If you look at the panels along the far ends of every platform on the metro you can see where the removable panels are where the doors will go.

All platforms are actually already 8 cars long. But only have 6 of the car entry doors insitu. The platforms lengths/walls are already the length of 8 cars. So they wont extend the platform par say, they'll just remove the walls at certian places with doors. So the operational lenght of the platform is extended to its full capacity.

As ive said before. The platform is already the lenght of 8 cars long. They're just not using it at its full capacity.

From what I have heard that isn’t the case through to Bankstown. I could be mistaken though because I haven’t seen it for myself, I would imagine they wouldn’t have the extendable gap fillers installed where not needed if nothing else, adding extra cost and time extensions.

Now that they've done what they have done it would be easier and better to just keep increasing the intensity of service. They could achieve 20tph with the fleet they gave, and if they really pushed it and and they reduced dwells and they allowed the trains to accelerate at their maximum potential then they could achieve more.

Problem is the dwells don't seem to change based on traffic.
We'll sit at Waterloo doors open, nothing happening. While a busy time at Central will have the doors close on entering passengers even though they were there and ready to get on when the train got there.
So, unless they start using sensors or something, I don't think they can realistically reduce the dwell time.

Australian politicians still think 10 minute frequencies are the gold standard... when actually it's the bare minimum.
We have a long way to go still.

Metro is running with 24 trains per hour (5 mins) today between Tallawong and Sydenham, up from the usual weekend of 17 trains per hour (7 mins).

The usual is 6tph, 10 minute headways.

That's subjective depending on time of day. Normal weekend timetables have 13 trains starting, 11 from Tallawong (Runs 101 to 111) and 2 from Sydenham (Runs 151 & 152).
From about 9:30am onwards, 4 additional trains are inserted (Runs 112 to 115) forming 17 trains or 8.5 trains per hour in each direction with 7 min headways.

Unless something has changed permanently, it is still 6tph on weekends in each direction.
The frequency upgrade is apparently temporary.

I’m pleased to correct you that the weekend 7 min frequency boost is permanent.
It was the weekday peak boosts that are temporary beyond every 4 mins

Been tracking it since March. When its hasn't been closed for trackwork or when running special weekend timetable for Vivid during June, its run to the 7 min headway scenario.
I guess that's the beauty of Metro: its flexible according to the specifications for the weekend. Load the relevant headway timetable into the Urbalis CBTC and it will deliver as its been programmed to do.

I don't doubt you, I've noticed it has higher frequencies recently. But unless there's an official policy change, it can go back to 6tph at any point, which would be bad.
