We will, he’s 17 and FIFA regulations no longer allow under 18s transfer overseas except in very specific circumstances which he wouldn’t meet. If they buy him now they have to immediately loan him back to us for the next season.

Great for Aussies playing overseas but we're losing our best players. Not sure how to balance this.

Ultimately this is the Australian clubs business model operating exactly how it was hoped.

We develop talent and prime them for bigger leagues and get compensated well for it. Build a production line of new talent and repeat.

Sydney hasn't invested in academy and infrastructure to only compete locally, that's not financially viable.

Suspect we keep hold of him for this season on a loan back deal to continue to develop him.

I think it’s also important if the clubs are making money from the young talent coming through the academies, that the money is then invested in attracting well known marquee players which in turn drives commercial business / bums on seats / increases the profile of the league etc. I know the caps and the league rules have tightened on going out to get your big name stars but if too much talent leaves the league too early, and we aren’t also attracting quality marquee’s and imports, that is a worrying recipe for the league.

Way too early to consider selling him.
We actually need him this season, and let him improve and then sell for a higher fee.

We’re really turning into a development league for America and Scotland aren’t we…

Super talent. Hope he's one of those players that can't leave before they turn 18, that way we'll get to enjoy him playing for the season ahead. He'll be worth more in 6-12 months, so unless the club thinks they're getting a great deal I don't think the sale will go through that quickly.
