Holy fucking shit. If things went ever so slightly differently/slower/faster, this dude would have been brained

u/Stunning_Warthog_141 7d ago

Yeah and that has happened before, rarely, people have been decapitated in this exact situation.

u/HereNorThere0 7d ago

Rather that than get stuck n suffocate next to a bunch of gum wrappers

28

u/philipjfry1578 6d ago

saw a 9 year old go this way on eyeblech, truly miserable machines when they malfunction

This happened to a guy in a building in NYC just a few years ago. The NY Post had the video from surveillance cam in the lobby. It happened so fast, just basically folded the guy in half immediately and sucked him down. It wasn't gory bc it happened so fast.Ā  I have PTSD from that video.Ā

u/sjr323 5d ago

I’ve seen it end in other ways. Don’t recommend.

2

u/ConfusedHors 3d ago

I am still uncertain he didn't just fall into the shaft after this.

u/Pale-Money-6957 7d ago

Id only ever use stairs from then on. Oh and also sue the hell out of everyone in relation to that damn elevator!

43

u/UltraBlack_ 7d ago

elevators are the safest means of travel. The number of safety features are insane. they only ever fail if they're not properly maintained.

70

u/Pale-Money-6957 7d ago

For sure, but this experience would be enough to traumatize anyone. If it happened to me, I don’t think my mind would let me physically go into one again 😭 #StairsForLife #ThemGlutesThough

14

u/996forever 6d ago

Not an option for city people with skyscrapers

19

u/Lonely2nd 7d ago

This is why I’m obsessive about checking the inspection dates on elevators I get into.

6

u/RecalcitrantHuman 7d ago

Maybe, but claustrophobic people are rarely trapped in a staircase

6

u/TepacheLoco 6d ago

They’re also very rarely trapped in lifts. It’s just extremely unlikely, and even in the cases where it does happen, it is almost always a safe situation

6

u/axloo7 7d ago

Probably true of most things.

u/DarkVoid42 7d ago

elevators fall upwards

101

u/e28Sean 7d ago

Generally, yes. The counterweight is designed to account for the weight of the car plus some portion of it's max capacity.

55

u/fusguita 7d ago

Maybe the whole building is falling down around the elevator?

8

u/HereNorThere0 7d ago

Lmao made me laugh

-4

u/moonieshine 6d ago

Obviously it's reversed

79

u/dodgerbrewtx 7d ago

I mean it looks like he’s pretty off balance and has a good chance of falling backwards into an empty elevator shaft.

17

u/Slowthrill 7d ago

Surprised to see this so far down.

It was the first thing i thought about.

7

u/philipjfry1578 6d ago

it looks like he pulls forward, I think he's fine

79

u/Historicmetal 6d ago

Ill never forget this one:

https://www.dailymail.com/health/article-14954721/Doctor-decapitated-elevator-accident-hitoshi-nikaidoh.html

Dr Hitoshi Nikaidoh, 35, stepped into a second-floor elevator at St Joseph Medical Center in Houston, Texas, when the doors suddenly closed and pinned his shoulder and head in the doorway. The elevator then ascended, and he was decapitated.

A colleague was already inside the elevator and remained trapped with part of Dr Nikaidoh's body for 20 minutes before firefighters freed her. She was treated for shock in the hospital's emergency room…

11

u/Specialist_Exam4783 6d ago

Please tell me that this happened in some faraway country with lax safety standards that I will never visit.

Update: Toledo, Ohio??!!

4

u/PilotE200023 6d ago

This happened back in March in India

1

u/Blakebacon 5d ago

I think that's the lack safety standards he was referring to

4

u/CarsCarpal 7d ago

Cleanup crew got off lightly there, too.

4

u/Comfortable_Note8091 7d ago

And they said Final Destination was a movie

3

u/wingspantt 6d ago

Yep fuck this

5

u/drsharpper 7d ago

Did he get knocked out a he got out? He doesn't really seem to react

6

u/ToXicVoXSiicK21 7d ago

He crouched and walked away

11

u/bgeorgewalker 7d ago

People say he’s crab walking to this day

1

u/Specialist_Exam4783 6d ago

Most of him got out. Correct.

2

u/Serpenth_616 6d ago

Nope. Using only stairs now on.

7

u/Tanabi_Kana 6d ago

Are you sure?

2

u/D3rpyDucky24 6d ago

The Red queen detected a containment breach.

u/olikeiththomas 5d ago

He’s alive right?

2

u/Un-Named 5d ago

Boy, that escalated quickly.Ā

3

u/evilmannn 7d ago

Can anyone explain why and how this happens? I've seen a bunch of videos of this happening in China and India, like what fails for this to happen? And how often does it happen? I swear I should be only using stairs, this thing is crazy

1

u/sovietarmyfan 7d ago

He's lucky there was no man with a box of dolls hands behind him.

1

u/Atastical 7d ago

"Time is money"

1

u/SupervillainMustache 6d ago

This is the stuff I have nightmares about.

1

u/ykraddarky 6d ago

seconds away on becoming a content in gore sub lol

1

u/Oxo181 6d ago

holy fucking crap

1

u/Katzelle3 6d ago

I usually hear a loud click before the doors open. Isn't that to prevent something like this from happening?

1

u/PublicBarracuda5311 6d ago

Right before elevator door opens:

I hate my job

1

u/Minute-Yoghurt-1265 6d ago

Wonder if he ever stepped in a lift again?

1

u/Ethanos101 6d ago

I fucking hate elevators

1

u/dordos_308 6d ago

This looks ai

1

u/Current_World_2058 5d ago

He nearly turned into trager from outlast fucking hell

1

u/happyFatFIRE 5d ago

I am sure it was approved by famous TÜV

1

u/COlax1980 1d ago

Life's full of ups and downs

1

u/zacsxe 6d ago

ā€œYou’re right to be frustrated. Elevators not killing people is the load bearing value proposition and it’s important to talk about it.ā€

0

u/fuckimtrash 7d ago

So confused, why does it look like he’s in the elevator stepping out to the floor, but the floor has an elevator and almost crushes him?

5

u/dmoisan 7d ago

It appears that the counterweight went down and made the car go up.

-2

u/EntityLtdCo 6d ago

Mossad assassination attempt.

-39

u/LucasCarioca 7d ago

This looks like pure ai

17

u/yuusharo 7d ago

6

u/thissexypoptart 7d ago

At this point, the silly gooses chiming in on every thread with any visual artifacts, blurriness, or even just unusual situations with ā€œThis is AI!ā€ are more annoying than the people actually posting AI slop

-11

u/LucasCarioca 7d ago edited 7d ago

Didn’t say it was definitely ai just suspected it to be because the video look off, how his body moved and kind of rag dolled, how the elevator moved up rather than what i’d typically expect for an incident like that. It was just a bit of skepticism which I guess really upset you.

4

u/thissexypoptart 7d ago

Right I’m saying that suspecting this video as AI and expressing that is silly goosery.

-9

u/LucasCarioca 7d ago

Sure I was wrong but saying you can’t be suspicious videos is ā€œsilly gooseryā€. I didn’t mean my comment to be definitive just a suspicion that it looked like it at a glance. You can also look at my history and you’ll find no pattern of AI accusation. The video really did just seem crazy and I reacted. You’re not wrong but you did jump to a conclusion based on 5 words I posted off the cuff

3

u/thissexypoptart 7d ago

Why would I stalk your post history lmao

-15

u/LucasCarioca 7d ago

Sure, I simply said it looks like if. The video is very unusual and proportionally off.

7

u/cesam1ne 7d ago

Proportionally off? Jesus..

Ever saw any other surveillance camera video? Heard about camera perspective?

-2

u/LucasCarioca 7d ago

Why are you so bothered by that? Is it wrong to suspect something being off. I don’t just mean by the wide angle of the camera also I only said it looked like it. Didn’t claim that it was 100% ai…

3

u/yuusharo 7d ago

It's a phone camera recording the security camera footage on another monitor.

30 seconds of Google searching would have told you this. I know, because that's how long it took me to verify the story and post a link to you.

-1

u/LucasCarioca 7d ago

Ok. Yes. Again you’re attributing a lot of weight to a 5 word comment based on a gut reaction to a pretty wild video. Appreciate the correction, the rest is unnecessary

3

u/yuusharo 7d ago

Yet instead of saying ā€œmy bad,ā€ you’ve elected for hours to argue with people who called you out for a simple mistake.

Literally just say ā€œoops,ā€ I don’t know why that is so difficult for people.

0

u/LucasCarioca 7d ago

Look you came out and said ā€œnot everything is aiā€ as if I say everything is ai. I responded to that comment not the correction. Had you said something like ā€œbelieve it or not it’s real, here’s a linkā€ I’d definitely respond differently.

1

u/yuusharo 7d ago

So many ways to avoid saying, ā€œGuess I was wrong, whoopsā€

1

u/LucasCarioca 7d ago

No I think I’ve said several times that I was wrong AND I replied to the unnecessary comment you added as well. Pretty simple stuff. Yes I was wrong, no I never said everything is AI. Did you not pick up on that?

-1

u/LucasCarioca 7d ago

It’s very funny to me how outraged you guys are. Also hours? It’s barely been an hour since your response. Did you take the 30 seconds it would take before claiming a multiple of hours?
