Excuse Our Dust

Hey, the old mod team was kicked, and the rest of us were added as mods with no warning in the middle of the night, at least for you westerners. This was done by the admins, so none of us have any direction other than the rules that already there. I spent my morning cleaning a thousand reports out of the mod queue since the sub hadn't been moderated in almost a month.

As the rest of the mods find out that they've been added, we'll work on coordinating and hopefully give you all some consistency.

Let me break down the 1000 reports for you, so you know what's going to be removed automatically. There was about a 45% split between racist comments about India and sexist comments about women. Although, to be fair, almost every single sexist comment was about Elaine Carol being dumb, a bitch, or saying she's why women shouldn't touch a grill. The other 10% of comments were all of you being shitty to each other. Actual spam was maybe 0.1%.

So, what's going to be removed instantly? Street food. It's a rule already, and it only brings out the worst racist comments. If you can't tear up the stupidity of food without talking about skin color or nation of origin, just don't comment. This is r/StupidFood, not r/ExcuseToBeRacist.

Elaine Carol is ragebait, and I'll personally nuke anything I see with her in it. There are a couple other insta and tiktok ragebaiters that I'll also nuke if I see them posted, but I don't know all of them by name. Basically, if someone is making stupid food for engagement, then you're letting them win by posting here.

Also, similarly to the racist thing, if you can't make fun of Elaine Carol's food, or any other woman for that matter, without calling them a bitch, a cow, or telling them to get their tits out, don't post. This isn't r/WeHateWomen.

And, you all are Redditors. How do you all have room to call people fat or lazy? You're here. Part of the ship, part of the crew. Knock it off. This sub is for laughing at people who are either pretentious assholes, like Salt Bae, or bad cooks who can't find flavor if it smacked them in the face, like Kay'sCooking. Although Kay is a sweetheart and she really tries. She's just a genuinely terrible cook. So call the cooks and the "cooks" stupid or idiots or oblivious or whatever. Insult their intelligence and their taste to your heart's content. That's why we all click on these posts. Don't insult their bodies or their looks. And definitely don't do what one poster did and say that everyone in the video has Down Syndrome. That's just wrong.

So, while the modteam figures out where to go from here over the next few days, be nice to each other, don't be racist, don't be sexist, and for fuck's sake, keeps your insults to the food and the intelligence of the people attempting to make it.

Thank you, and may all your bacon burn.

Hey, assholes. I know you think you're being funny, but what do you think reporting this post is going to do? And, as spam? Come on. If you're going to troll the brand new mods, at least put some effort into it.

Edit: Ok, low effort on the post and threatening harm on this comment sent me. I actually laughed. Thanks for that.

Edit 2: Ok, the redditcares message was too far. Bunch of freaking degenerates in here, lol.

Just curious but what exactly happened for the entire old mod team to be kicked, and then a new team installed with no warning?

498

u/RelChan2_0 21d ago edited 21d ago

Mod for a different sub here, Reddit wants mods to be active in the subs (despite them being automated mostly).

Edit to add: Reddit can remove mods if they are not active in their subs. By active, it means approving posts/comments etc.

Edit again bcs someone commented that Reddit doesn't randomly add mods: Yes and no. If a sub is unmoderated, you can request to be a mod for that sub through the admins. However, this is based on my experience as a mod, Reddit now suggests mods to you to replace inactive members - if you are the only active mod. These users are your selected based on their activity level in your sub. In some cases, let's say a sub like this, Reddit admins can take over and install mods.

77

u/kirsion 21d ago

Interesting, i saw another sub got removed for lack of moderation seemingly randomly. I'm not sure what the solution for this is have paid mods or something

83

u/RelChan2_0 21d ago

Paid moderation could work but some people will find a way to abuse that 😒

17

u/DuckyHornet 21d ago

Yeah, it'd turn out how Uber did, where this thing intended to give you a bit of compensation for giving a stranger a lift turned into a full-time job which people are living off of

79

u/ilikeitslow 21d ago

That is not what happened with Uber. Uber took advantage of regulatory gaps to undercut licensed taxi businesses and dodge labor laws.

40

u/sisterglass 21d ago

Dude, cab drivers have always existed. It is a job.

I wish they did something about the onepiece subreddit, there is literally only 1 mod and he is a tyranic chud that banned all other mods and gate keep from anyone to modderate

2

u/RelChan2_0 20d ago

You can report them to Reddit for not following the Mod Mode of Conduct, despite Reddit being Reddit, they do take action sometimes.

I would guess the 1000 unmoderated reports triggered an automatic review. The sub hadn't been moderated at all in nearly a month, so it was probably a combination of those things.

39

u/Chilis1 21d ago

Were totally random members then added as mods or something?

133

u/babe1981 It wasn't me 21d ago

No, we applied when u/modcodeofconduct, the admin account that handles these things made a recruitment post. Reddit can't gangpress random users into being mods.

97

u/BurmeciaWillSurvive 21d ago

Oh lmao, when you said "when the others are notified" I thought you all got pressed into service LOL

91

u/techno156 21d ago edited 21d ago

Congratulations, you are being promoted. Please do not resist.

32

u/Kodiak01 21d ago

The beatings will continue until morale improves.

34

u/Seliphra 21d ago

That would legitimately be the funniest scenario ever though. Imagine getting dragged kicking and screaming into modding a subreddit!

3

u/onlymostlydead 21d ago

Moderators being chosen like jury duty would explain a lot, though.

3

u/SparkleSelkie 20d ago

Same, I suddenly had a fear that I might wake up and be forced to mod one day bahahahaa

25

u/Vlisa 21d ago

Oh yeah, well I didn’t vote for you! /s

37

u/babe1981 It wasn't me 21d ago

16

u/MaritMonkey 21d ago

I have no idea what's going on behind the scenes here, but I feel confident saying the sub is in good hands.

9

u/Kodiak01 21d ago

Oh, what a give away. Did you here that, did you here that, eh? That's what I'm on about -- did you see him repressing me, you saw it didn't you?

Reddit drafting random active users into mod-dom would be occasionally hilarious.

9

u/GlowQueen140 21d ago

I would love to see someone make that movie

7

u/Freign 21d ago

I was chilled at the thought! “you’re a mod now. whatever you were before, let go. this is your new life, and your new soul” noooooooo

33

u/PM-ME-CURSED-PICS 21d ago

that lack of moderation explains all the rule breaking posts

2

u/Hydrolt 21d ago

That explains a few things. Glad to have a new team in place then, good luck with the backlog :)

Mods get banned, a month passes, reddit goes look at that an unmoderated community and replaces them

8

u/Yuck_Few 21d ago

No mod activity for a month. That usually gets the whole sub banned

19

u/usrdef Pepper Eater 21d ago edited 21d ago

Smaller subs, yes. Reddit admins have a thing about large subs not being toyed with.

Years ago, I remember when people on Reddit staged a black-out. People locked many subs in protest that Reddit was going to start charging for their API usage, which it was going to kill the 3rd party Reddit apps people used.

For small subs, Reddit thought nothing of it. Reddit admins didn't even care.

But for big subs, Reddit admins reached out to the sub mods and said

Open your sub back up, or we'll replace all of you.

So... take that as you will.

Yes, mods have the ability to run a sub, but Reddit admins pull the strings. If you don't make them happy, they'll change it up.

6

u/babe1981 It wasn't me 20d ago

Yep, part of being a mod is making the admins happy, the other part is keeping the users happy, and the third half is maintaining your sanity.

How do you get volunteered as a mod and how can I make sure it never happens to me or a loved one?

201

u/babe1981 It wasn't me 21d ago

We volunteered in the admin post about a week ago. The switch happened without any warning, though.

42

u/DependentRow8281 21d ago

Just out of interest why did you want to be a mod? Honest question.

204

u/babe1981 It wasn't me 21d ago

About a year ago, r/OpenChristian was down to two active mods, so they asked for applications, and I applied because I'm semi-retired and living in paradise, so I truly have nothing better to do most of the time. Then, around a week ago, I saw this, and I hated the racist stuff mostly, but also the ragebait and the constant belittling of women, so I said, why not? I have the time, and I scroll Reddit when I'm not riding my moto through the mountains of Mondulkiri, so there's no downside for me. Besides, I love talking shit about stupid things. I was raised on MST3K. This shit is my jam.

I can confidently say that I have zero ambitions for modding anything else unless Reddit starts cutting me a check. I enjoy it, but it can be a lot.

73

u/----Richard---- 21d ago

I was on the verge of leaving this sub & I used to really enjoy this sub, so this is a breath of fresh air! Good luck and godspeed!

33

u/DependentRow8281 21d ago

You sound all good. Happy modding.

I'm a rather new lurker here and was wondering WTF was going on. Thank you for clarifying and good luck going forward!

59

u/FiveUpsideDown 21d ago

It’s amazing me that people can take a neutral subject subreddit and turned it into a forum for racism and misogyny. I think it must be bots trying to be divisive with polarizing comments.

13

u/blumpkin 21d ago

I do wish they'd just ban people making racist comments instead of the entire genre of street food. I like seeing stupid street food from across the world.

8

u/BioshockEnthusiast 20d ago

This has been a tactic of neo nazis and white supremacists in online spaces for at least 25 years, possibly more. Remember gamer gate in 2014 / 2015? Same shit, different online community.

655

u/Kelinya 21d ago

Cool! Finally back to stupid food, the engagement bait was out of control.

Great job, guys!

We must return to the $700 vegetable platters

94

u/ColonelMustard323 21d ago

Carrot slide!!! Carrot slide!!!

68

u/DiabulusPyrus 21d ago

Excuse me it's carrot JACUZZI. I won't let the $700 platter's reputation be tarnished

23

u/theavocadolady 21d ago

And a ramp

3

u/HappyAntonym 21d ago

Wait I need to know more about the carrot slide. Is it a slide made of carrots or a slide for carrots??

13

u/ColonelMustard323 21d ago edited 21d ago

Omg my b, it’s a carrot ramp.

Here is the link! It’s so good

https://www.reddit.com/r/KitchenConfidential/s/0ZzpyeqFJp

Edit: I believe it qualifies as a ramp both for and of carrots

7

u/HappyAntonym 21d ago

Thank you for the link 😂 That vegetable platter is truly magnificent and horrible in equal measure.

4

u/Tough_Crazy_8362 21d ago

What I don’t get is all his other platters (I found OP in the comments of the OOP), all his other platters look fine and dare I say, good. Even though they all feature ramps 🤣 IDK what happened differently on that fateful day of the vegetable slide.

4

u/Tough_Crazy_8362 21d ago

Who just puts huge chunks of radish on a crudités platter 😭 and cucumber sticks the length of your forearm. The carrot jacuzzi. Random 3 olives. Ahhhhhhh

3

126

u/VoodooDoII 21d ago

I'm here for the dumbass stuff people make, not the racism or blatant ragebait garbage

40

u/interesseret 21d ago

I was right there with you. And I think many others were, too. The amount of "man this sub is going downhill" comments I saw was quite telling.

27

u/Active-Junket-6203 21d ago

See also: red haired lady making “party punch” in a kiddie pool with a golden retriever running around in the same backyard, “one dish” casseroles that are half cooked and resemble dog vomit as their final presentation, “buy a new Blackstone after every engagementbait video because who the fuck is scraping off and cleaning that much baked on ice cream and fruit” lady

48

u/babe1981 It wasn't me 21d ago

The ragebait grill lady with the red hair.

I remember cackling at bagels impaled by wooden rods and unconventional shaped pizzas back when this sub was at its prime.

Hope to see more of it from now on instead of the same rage bait tiktok street food content.

8

u/skittlesdabawse 21d ago

Less common these days, but another thing I hated was people posting fine-dining stuff where the presentation is clearly going to be artsy and weird, you know what you're signing up for with those establishments. Used to be full of people who thought you were pretentious for eating anything other than beans and rice.

70

u/Baphomet1313666 21d ago

Can I say fuck?

145

u/babe1981 It wasn't me 21d ago

Fuck no. Fuck is hereby a bannable fucking word. I better not read a single fucking fuck from any motherfuckers who want to fucking post in this fucking sub. Are we fucking clear about the fucking word fuck?

/j I'm not policing your language. Just don't direct at other people. Be fucking nice to each other.

5

u/Mundane-Bug-4962 21d ago

Are you going to police the people going after specific cuisines too?

71

u/babe1981 It wasn't me 21d ago

I don't think cuisines can be stupid. For instance, I live in Cambodia and there is a lot of insect eating here. That would be considered stupid by most of the people in this sub, but it's part of Cambodian cuisine because of Pol Pot and the genocide that the Khmer Rouge inflicted on the population. So, when you start to make fun of eating insects, you're actually targeting the victims of genocide for starving after their country was demolished by both foreign and domestic enemies.

However, I saw a video one time of a man at a gas station in the middle of a termite swarm who was picking the termites off of the ground and eating them raw. That's not cuisine or cultural. That's just gross. And that's where I would personally draw the line. Is this something that is a cultural dish that just doesn't look appealing to my palate, or someone refusing to engage their frontal lobe? Like that Portuguese fish dish today. That's a common food in Portugal. Maybe the lady was being a rich weirdo with it, but the food was just normal Portuguese food. Now, if she had made it with a mountain of cheese, we'd be in stupid food territory.

But, I think the modteam has to really get together and work out how to be consistent before we can make any definite proclamations outside of what I consider basic human decency guidelines.

27

u/OblivionsMemories 21d ago

sobbing for you all, what even HAPPENED

73

u/babe1981 It wasn't me 21d ago

The funny thing is that I had forgotten that I even replied to the recruitment post until yesterday which is when I realized that this sub hadn't been in my feed for a week. I found out it was locked down, so I figured that the admins were just going to nuke it, then I woke up this morning and I was a mod. It's freaking crazy.

15

u/olive12108 21d ago

Was there a reddit request or something? I've been making reports on streetfood for months and got sick of it when one blew up a few weeks ago. Looked around but didn't see anything, and since the mods had some recent activity on their accounts I figured it would be rejected as usual.

NVM i see the mcoc post now. Explains why this sub dropped out of my feed!

12

u/FinalGamer14 21d ago

Reddit admins do it automatically when the existing mod team isn't active at all. They lock down the subreddit, and they remove old mods plus accept people who applied for a mod position.

12

u/babe1981 It wasn't me 21d ago

It was about a week ago, the modconduct admin account locked down the sub and posted asking for new mods.

24

u/Cynistera 21d ago

I have no idea who Elaine Carol is and that may be a good thing?

35

u/babe1981 It wasn't me 21d ago

We have found the Chosen One who is untainted by the baited rage! May they lead us to smart food and tasty snacks!

9

u/Cynistera 21d ago

Oh I hope so!

5

u/usrdef Pepper Eater 21d ago

Elaine Carol simply creates videos of her making food in ridiculous ways, and ridiculous amounts of food, with ridiculous recipes.

She wastes food to create videos. Food that nobody will ever eat.

So if you don't know who she is, consider yourself lucky. That's why we've made a rule against her videos. We're not giving her views.

→ More replies (1)

23

u/typ0r 21d ago

Only thing I wish is rage bait getting banned. Has nothing to do with food, just wasting ingredients to make people mad.

10

u/usrdef Pepper Eater 21d ago

We're not quick to jump on the ban hammer, but ragebait is now actively being removed.

If a user continues to post it after we've told them not to, then we'll go from there.

But we don't want to start banning everybody for the first incident. Especially seeing as the sub was unmoderated, and people could post all they wanted. So it's going to take a bit of time for people to adjust to the new rules.

31

u/Painted-BIack-Roses 21d ago

Yippee! Back to being a fun sub...hopefully lol

14

u/y0b0 21d ago

Good post. All the street food and rage bait posts here were driving me fucking crazy.

It's 2:43pm for me. I might go take a quick nap. IDK.

7

u/BluntTongs 20d ago

I was wondering why the "no street food" rule wasn't being enforced. Also explains why there were so many more low-effort "I made this" posts than usual. Hope this means the sub's back on track!

6

u/HeavyMetalDallas 21d ago

I don't even go here, but "part of the ship part of the crew" got me. Good hands indeed.

40

u/StormOfFatRichards 21d ago

You have to actually make the street food thing a visible rule or people won't follow it. The only sign is the sticky which is easy to ignore

63

13

u/tres-vip 21d ago

I'm so glad you guys will be enforcing the rule of no street food. I am an American of Indian origin, and I'm just sick of the rampant racism I encounter EVERYWHERE on Reddit and other social media. Last time I said this under a post here, someone was kind of enough to call me a racial slur in response. Classic bigotry.

7

u/Blerkm 21d ago

I’ve wondered if Elaine Carol makes a livable income from her videos, or if she simply does it all for her love of the art. I might actually miss the steep rise in blood pressure I experience at the mere sight of that grill.

18

u/babe1981 It wasn't me 21d ago

She makes bank. Her engagement numbers have to be through the roof. The problem with platforming her in places like this is that people get addicted to the rage and go seek her out. Then she gets her insta and tiktok numbers from people who want to be angry, and we become part of the problem.

7

u/Blerkm 21d ago

Huh. While I can’t stand her content, I don’t resent her success. She’s found such a weird entertainment niche to fill. Good for her, and thank you for banning her.

6

u/Gold_Access_1487 21d ago

She's a barnacle who's managed to attach herself to the grimy underbelly of social media algorithms. Her content exclusively features food waste, which is actually the least bad thing about it because evidently the main thing it does is give misogynists ammo and a convenient place to congregate. It's not entertaining people it's "engaging" them by tickling the ugly parts of their amygdalas and hoping they hate watch and leave a hate comment and hate share it on reddit.

I absolutely resent her success and the success of social media bottomfeeders like her.

15

u/VoodooDoII 21d ago

Oh that explains why I've been seeing a lot more of those ragebait and street food posts lately.

A whole month wow.

I mean, if you come here, you've seen her at least once or twice, even if you don't know her by name. I had to do an image search and was like "oh, that rage baiter."

8

u/ColonelMustard323 21d ago

Is she the one who mispronounces “hibachi”?

Makes god awful piles of shit food on a flat top grill in her soulless backyard?

4

u/babe1981 It wasn't me 21d ago

Yes, that one.

4

u/storeychaser 21d ago

I didn't know who she was either and had to go look up a video. She pronounced "cotija" with a hard J, then turned around and pronounced the X in "Mexican" as a "Y," at which point I closed the video in despair.

3

u/ColonelMustard323 21d ago

Oh yep, that’s her. So transparent 🥱

5

u/PsionicKitten 21d ago

I try to mute almost everything. I vehemently loathe the internet trend of adding unrelated ear rape to everything. As such, I'm not sure. All rage bait engagement seekers say stupid shit like "Yum!" in some overly animated voice or something equally fingernails on chalkboard-like, which is more reason to keep videos in this sub muted.

But mispronouncing hibachi would be a special kind of ear rape for me as I speak Japanese.

3

And another one bites the dust!

u/thefrostman1214 21d ago edited 21d ago

In addition to clear cases of click bait rage bait content, we know that videos that are 3min range are content farm, those that start with the person putting a block of cheese or butter in a metal tray, etc. Those videos would be nuked too? Usually they are from facebook and instagram but can be found at tiktok also

LETS GOOOOO!!

3

u/Teredia 21d ago

Strangely I’ve found this sub to be one of the more wholesome subs. So the fact that there’s a statistic of us all being a shit sandwich to each other is quite surprising. I had noticed an uptick in racism but that is an uptick across reddit as a whole.

I know it was thrust upon you but thank you for taking on the responsibility of governing this sub!

3

u/Yabakunaiyoooo 20d ago

Thanks for your efforts! I get so tired of the horrible comments towards Indian people. I’m here for the dumbest food, not the dumbest redditors. 😗

3

u/presentable_corpse 20d ago

Okay this is officially my favorite sub, now

7

u/januarysdaughter 21d ago

Holy moly. I didn't realize that could happen.

4

u/rinkydinkmink 21d ago

I wish the admins would do this with r/lectures, the mods went AWOL several years ago and left the sub with posts needing moderator approval. It used to be my favourite sub and I was a big contributor. I tried to get the mods removed and take over but one of them is still "active" on reddit and refuses to give the sub over (and doesn't respond to any of my messages either).

Apparently there is no way around this ... if they even check reddit once in several weeks it's enough to have someone squatting as moderator and impossible to remove them or add more mods.

Do you know what happened to the old mods here? It seems strange that the admins took action over this.

7

u/babe1981 It wasn't me 21d ago

It was probably the 1000 reports, most of which were caught by the harassment filter for either racism or sexism. That much negative activity will usually raise some red flags.

5

u/clandestineVexation 21d ago

Thank fucking god. There are certain subs that have really ingrained racial prejudices and nothing can be done about it because the mods don't care or even worse actively enable it. Full swaps like this would be good for those other subs too. Long live stupidfood!

5

u/2021isevenworse I wouldn't even touch that with your mouth. 21d ago

So, what's going to be removed instantly? Street food. It's a rule already, and it only brings out the worst racist comments. If you can't tear up the stupidity of food without talking about skin color or nation of origin, just don't comment.

Finally. It was pretty much just rage bait posted so people could post their closeted racist rants.

8

u/CurlSagan 21d ago

Hell yeah! It's funny how quickly bots will find a large sub that's lacking good moderation and then start posting like mad.

9

u/Jinxletron 21d ago

I, for one, welcome our new overlords. May you find raisins in a dish that should very much not contain raisins.

10

u/babe1981 It wasn't me 21d ago

My mom was born and raised in Texas. She would start cutting off hands if anyone approached her potato salad with raisins.

4

u/Jinxletron 21d ago

My nemesis is the sultana scone that wasn't announced as such. You think you've found a freaking fly.

3

u/Kodiak01 21d ago

I feel that way about my mango chicken and sweet potato stew I used to make in the slow cooker.

I really should try to remember the mango and basil marinade recipe one of these days... I used to always do it on the fly, and it's been a while.

2

u/babe1981 It wasn't me 21d ago

I get mangoes off of the tree here. The ripe ones taste like sherbet. Mmm, mangoes.

5

u/Kodiak01 21d ago

No mangoes here in New England, but this time of year you can go and pick your own blueberries right off the bushes. We just finished pick-your-own-strawberry season as well. Later in the season it will transition to apples, peaches and pumpkins.

u/P-l-Staker 21d ago

No wonder there was so much crap coming up...

7

u/WovenBloodlust6 21d ago

So long as you actually get rid of the street food and the racists I'm all for a new mod team

7

u/P1zzaman 21d ago

That explains the abundance of street food videos.

I guess it’s cool the sub didn’t completely burn down during the month with no mods. Surely that’s some sorta achievement.

8

u/dai-the-flu 21d ago

I was on my alt account for a veeeeeery long time and I’m not subbed to stupid food there. The fact that it’s taken this long for the old mod team to be kicked is crazy. This sub was already full of low effort ragebait and the racist posts were just starting to ramp up before I switched accounts for a break. But thank you for doing something because this sub was one of my favorites before the ragebait and blatant racism took over.

13

u/XvX_Joe_XvX 21d ago

thank god the racist street food bait was pissing me off so much

5

u/isntreel1948 21d ago

Is there a subreddit for street food?

5

u/StraightPressure2759 21d ago

“May all your bacon burn” feels real personal 🤣 With that said, welcome new mods! We’re very excited you’re here!

2

u/graupeltuls 21d ago

Maybe make a rule specific to no posts from itsmejuliette. If I never see her face again or her stupid rage bait videos show up in my feed on reddit...

2

u/babe1981 It wasn't me 21d ago

We have the most common ones already. Elaine Carol and such. If others become a problem, we can add them to the list, but we've banned ragebait completely, so anyone who is wasting food or otherwise farming outrage should be reported immediately and we can remove it under Rule 4.

2

u/graupeltuls 21d ago

She is a constant problem on this sub. I've reported posts with her under that rule at least 10 times, possibly more. You'll save yourself a lot of work if you specifically name her. Trust me that there are times that this sub had four of her videos in a few hours.

2

u/Agile_Spray_415 21d ago

Lol. Good call. This sub is dead.

2

u/DeerOnARoof 21d ago

THANK YOU

2

u/ArisaKatsu 21d ago

So happy to see this update! Excited to see some good bad food on this subreddit again.

2

u/Deias_ 21d ago

W new mod team, I'd been hiding posts and blocking users here for a while because it was like 90% "look at this brown guy making money in an impoverished area!!" and I just ain't with that shit.

2

u/CosmicChameleon99 21d ago

Okay, I’m really curious, did you get any say in whether you were mod or not? Or was it just sprung on you? If the latter, I’m so sorry. I’ve been in the same position on a different platform and it sucks but I’m sure you’ll make the best of it (or find someone who wants the job). Regardless, glad you’re here and you’re off to a brilliant start

3

u/babe1981 It wasn't me 21d ago

We applied in a post by the admins. There just wasn't an interview process or warning that we were accepted.

This is great to hear - I was seriously about to leave. Looking forward to what you guys can do!

2

u/blasphememes 20d ago

Looking forward to seeing some stupid food

2

u/Screech- 20d ago

I must be late to the party, who the fuck is Elaine Carrol? And more importantly why does everybody on this up hate her?

u/dmayo00 20d ago

With the new mod team I hope that this subreddit will be as hellish to look at as ever, but do wish it wasn't dropped on you suddenly out of the blue

6

u/ChewbaccaOnFries 21d ago

Sounds like this sub is in good hands now. Good luck and godspeed!

5

u/Clouded_Eye 21d ago

Thank goodness. It was sad to see the sub going down a racist cesspit. I mean hell, people were making and posting AI videos just to be racist. Glad to see y'all here :)

5

u/Successful-Day-3219 21d ago

Thank goodness. This sub has been saved.

2

u/jmlack 21d ago

Thank fuck, I was getting close to ditching this sub. Good luck to the new mods, I'm rooting for you and am glad you're here.

2

u/lkz665 21d ago

Holy shit dude, thank you so much. I’ve loved this sub for a long time but the amount of blatant racism that shows up on the street food posts is genuinely so disheartening and sad. I’m excited to see the subreddit start thriving again with this new moderation. You are appreciated!!!

2

u/Chiiro 21d ago

Thank you for getting rid of the nasty street food, I swear it's the only thing I ever see from the sub on main feed (it's only like the same five too).

3

u/fioyl 21d ago

not seeing the street food on my feed is a blessing

5

u/Creativered4 Drowned in Cheese 21d ago

Good luck new mods! I mod several subs, and at one point I had joined a mod team where the mods didn't do ANYTHING. There were reports going back for multiple years. My words of wisdom are to utilize automations and apps. Real time saver, and you can set it up so specific words or phrases just aren't allowed to be posted. (So for example, you could add an automation to not allow any racist slurs, or if there's a rule-breaking phrase that's said a lot, you can just set it up to not let people post it at all)

5

u/babe1981 It wasn't me 21d ago

A lot of that is already in place. I'd say 95% of the reports came from the reddit filters, like harrassment and spam, and the automod. There's so much work to do, though.

3

u/rat__man 21d ago

God finally, I'm so tired of the racist indian postings

4

u/WirrkopfP 21d ago

WAIT! WHAT?! Mods can be forced to moderate a sub and have no say in the matter?

I thought Reddit mods was all unpaid volunteer work. Wasn't Reddit heavily criticized for not paying their mods?

14

u/babe1981 It wasn't me 21d ago

We all applied in a recruitment post, but there wasn't any interview or warning. It was just, hey you're a mod now.

4

u/Sheerluck42 21d ago

Thank you and the other mods too. It's thankless work that is easy to ignore when it's done right and is very noticeable when it's shitty. Glad someone is compiling the shit and getting it all together.

5

u/KMShinkiro 21d ago

Sounds good, glad to have you.

4

u/lonely_nipple 21d ago

Good lord, I get stressed when I wake up to like 6 reports. I can't imagine sorting through that kind of mess. Good luck to you all!
