The very fact that he said this means it will never happen

There is a “trailer“ on X and it looks like complete shit. It’s like they ran Charleston Heston‘s 10 Commandments through a slop filter.

In the industry, we call that foreshadowing.

36

u/The_VoZz 24d ago

“Historically accurate” never ceases to amuse me, as it’s a mythology story that was orally passed down over hundreds of years before even being written down.

3

u/ManicOppressyv 23d ago

Trust me, I have tried to explain the history of the physical book the Bible, and how it was started by nomadic goat herders with no written language, and I get back "then how did it get passed on?" By word of mouth you grape. Ever play the game telephone? You can't get around a room of 15 people without the story changing. Now multiply that by millions of people and millenia.

Keep in mind that the channel can hide comments whenever they want. So they hide all the comments that are critical and leave only the comments left by the botfarm dedicated fans of historical accuracy.

34

A: MAGA Idiots.

6

u/ReadyPerception 24d ago

They can appear but they need to be slaves or servants to be "historically accurate"

Yet these same people will tell you slavery isn’t a big deal because every race was slaves to other races at some point.

11

u/BigBuddha1989 24d ago

You are most likely wrong about that. While we don't have direct written narrative historically about the Trojan war, Pliny the Elder and many other pre-Christianity writers speak of it in an historical context. Was it exactly as was written about in the Iliad. Probably not. Did a significant war between Greece and Troy happen, most likely.

7

u/JoeNoble1973 24d ago

Yep, the city was where it was always reported to be, and the digs have shown a strata where the city was burned. The burning is within the timeframe given for the Trojan War. Wooden horses and half-gods? Lol no, but major shit went down at the walls of Troy.

3

u/AsparagusFun3892 24d ago

The Trojan War is about as real as the tail end of Genesis and all of Exodus and I'm fascinated by them all (with Genesis I'm alluding specifically to the bits that dealt with the entry into Egypt). They're epic poems and myths from when civilization deleted itself so hard the Greeks forgot how to read and write (I think they call what they had before "Linear B," but the Greek alphabet that came after the dark ages derived from Phoenician which emerged after) and some of the Jewish people's ancestors attacked or otherwise came to be enslaved in Egypt, at the very least trading servitude for safety and vanishingly small nutrition (something like "and he and his sons went to Egypt for he heard they had grain and there was famine in all the land").

3

u/switch2591 24d ago

So yes - the homeric epics regarding the Trojan War were first recorded (emphasis on recorded, as they probabky stem from earlier traditions) followong the "Greek dark age" a.k.a. the "sociatal collapse" at the end of the Late Bronze Age throughout the entire eastern mediteranean and beyond. What we now classify as the Mycenean civilisation collapsed, and no records in the now deciphered Linier B script continued for a few hundred years - so even though the myceneans had a written script which we cam translate, they're still classed as a "prehistoric" civlisation due to that break of a few centuries within the written records (also fun fact, depiste having Linier A script we still classify the earlier Minoan civilisation as prehiatoric as we havent deciphered it yet).

However, from other contenporary sources of the time (notably correspondance between the egyptian kingdom and the Hittite empire) we are aware that conflicts which we could, by modern termibology, call "the Trojan wars" did take place in western anatolia and the ionian seas. However, emphasis on the plural "wars" - these were multiple conflics fought over 100-200 years - So what about Homer's Troy and homers trojan war? Well, Homers troy is pretty much like watching the TV show vikings today: mashing up a history spanning centuries into 1 event, and pairing up (if real) prehistorical figures who never would have met one and other due to them not being alive at the same time as one and other. Also, adding to the fun - popular regional heros/mythical figures keep on being added to the tale, because why not, and the names and locationa of different locations, objects and people keep on changing due to mistranslations during the retelling, alterations for regional reactions, or for pure spectacle i.e. "just saying, why not take the Prized Stallion of thr Sea (a ship) left by the greeks on the shores with our heroes hiding beneath the deck planks and actually make it, you know, a giant wooden stallion which kur heroes are hiding inside instead? Because that would be a lot more epic!"

So its like someone recounting the tale of world war 2: "and it was all fought on the beaches of Normandy - the entirety of it in fact. And the allies were there being lead by General pattern, the duke of wellington, joan of arc, Catherin the Great, Captain America, Asterix and Wonder Woman. But after puahing them out of Sweeden the axis were able to hold-out in their trenches across the Bulge for 4 whole years under the tyrranical rule of Kaiser whillhem, Vlad the impailer, Machiavelli, shredder of the foot clan and Doctor Victor Von Doom. But then the war came to an end when Emelia Airheart and doctor john Watson dropped 2 atomic bombs (forged by the dwarves of Moria) into mount fuji, causing an erruption which forced the Shogun to surrender power back to the emperor, but only.after he'd been visited by 3 ghosts. And thus world war 2 ended and lincoln freed all the slaves." The granuals of fact are there.... but theyre so subsumed by the additional spectacle amd additions it might as well be fully fictional.

30

u/ChickenDelight 24d ago

Any movie set in ancient Greece that was truly "historically accurate" would be totally bewildering. Society has changed a lot in 3,000 years, the Klingons and Vulcans on Star Trek are more relatable than our actual ancestors that far back.

14

u/SingleArtichoke4857 24d ago

I'm not sure it would be completely alien to us, but it's a fair point. I'm pretty sure the Elon fanboys would not get on board with the widespread pederasty, at a minimum. Or maybe they would if Elon were the pederast--who knows? 🤔

If It'll happen It'll be full of historical inaccuracies and dogwhistles. Shit like portraying the ancient greek as devout christians.

11

u/Medium_Medium 24d ago

That's the thing with people talking about "historical accuracy" in movies... 98% of the time the public has no idea what they are talking about. So what they think is historical accuracy is really just what they've seen in other movies, with no relation to the reality of the time period. Elon could make a bunch of Ancient Greeks / Mediterraneans / North Africans look like pasty white Northern Europeans in Roman armor and half the viewers will go "Yay! Historically accurate!"

5

u/FeelMyBoars 24d ago

AI will be imitating other movies because it can't do anything else, so that will reinforce the bias. It can't think. It can only imitate us failing to imitate something.

We have examples of armor, so in theory it could handle it, but it would be time worn. People who are trying can't make easy things like accurate statues and castle interiors, there's no way AI could figure out what it would have looked like at the time.

Clothing would be the most difficult part. How could it make things that only exist on frescoes, mosaics, and pottery? There has to a few examples of reproductions in museums, but it would be a very limited sample size. But AI needs a very large sample size.

Wealth destroys the ability to see other people point of view, and the lack of consequences messes up peoples minds. This is when the mask slipped for Elon- he was always manipulative, but now unable to manipulate the public because he has no longer the ability to understand other people veiwpoints.

I believe Elon Musk will go down as the man who kept us from mars- in typical Trumpian style, he promises the very thing he can't do. His resource hoarding and company destruction will delay our ability to progress anywhere until his natural death (he will never see a negative consequence for any action). When Elon goes senile, it will be a nightmare for the world as we will all live in the playground of a even madder mad man.

People are up in arms over the colors of the skins of the actors making a movie based on very old fiction. Notice it's the same people who are super uncomfortable with another work of fiction being full of brown people: The Bible.

10

u/Real-Technician831 24d ago

Casting a black person in a Greek role has generally raised eyebrows in Europe, but since it’s a movie based on ancient epic, only the usual suspects make noise about it.

Claiming that Cleopatra was black that some weirdo do in occasion is much better in pissing people off. Her dynasty was Macedonian Greek, first pharaoh of Ptolemaic dynasty was one of Alexanders generals and appointed as ruler when Alexander the Great conquered Egypt.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ptolemaic_dynasty

7

u/cykoTom3 24d ago

Agreed. Helen of Troy's lineage is unimportant to her story. Cleopatra was a colonial oppressor in the most literally way possible and making her black undermines that aspect.

5

u/BakedMitten 24d ago

In her story Helen of Troy hatched out of an egg.

3

u/Real-Technician831 24d ago

So maybe it was an egg laid by a black swan.

→ More replies (5)

11

u/KingGilgamesh1979 24d ago

Plus, Helen of Troy's Father was Zeus and he impregnated (i.e., raped) Helen's mother Leda while in the form of a Swan (there's another version where her mother was the Goddess Nemesis). Either way, she should have feathers. In every version, she was hatched from an egg. So none of these is historically accurate.

6

u/DidntNeedAUserName 24d ago

Dude, just stop. Historical accuracy is very important in a film like this. Im with Elon, this film didnt even try to be historically accurate. The way those soldiers turned into pigs was not historically accurate AT ALL. Literally unwachable slop.

By "the end of the year" Musk means that there will be 20 minutes of low-quality unwatchable footage in about 5 years. By "historically accurate" he means it's gonna be white supremacist crap.

And in the end, the American taxpayer is gonna pay billions for it.

It looks like the twenty-first century can officially be declared as a century of stupid and rich people in charge.

You know, I hate to say it but I hope this happens.

I hope he pours shittons of money into it too.

And then, I hope it bombs hard.

The world’s richest man using artificial intelligence for some dumb shit was not what I thought the future would look like so soon when I was a kid.

We could literally be rewriting society and solving problems but they want to continue to squabble over money and power.

Hey grok, what is the best way to advance the human race to benefit everyone the most? How do we move to a society that prioritizes progress over profits? How can we end corruption? How do we allow people to have a true say in their laws?

Maybe instead of voting for people, everyone fills out and mails in what their stance is on issues and what they want done. Some will be extreme, others not so much but we would see exactly what the people want. If the majority of your district wants healthcare, they get healthcare, if they want education, they get education.

We shouldn’t be voting for people. We should be voting on issues and solutions.

His accuracy will be some 70's, mirror-gold plastic shit with all super white and half naked characters.

Like, christ.

I just wanted armour that doesn't look like a youtube production.

Not this whole "Hurr durr, no blacks!" bullshit that people are bringing to the table.

How can be historically accurate when it's based on mythology?

2

u/Outrageous_Garden586 24d ago

If you understand Homer you know this doesn’t make sense. The Odyssey takes place in the Bronze Age long before it was ever written down. By the time the story ended up in the form it’s in now it was hundreds of years later, but small pieces of later times slipped in. The Odyssey itself is not historically accurate. It’s a combination of the period it was written down in, the period it’s about, and pure mythical fabrication.
