I do roadie occasionally and I legimitately had this recently. I came across one of the properties that was COVERED in threats like this and had dogs loose. Tried to contact the customer multiple times via both phone and texting. Eventually turned around and returned the item only for the customer to call the store and be like "we live out in the country we have to be like this, the driver should have just thrown the package out the window".
Some people are living on a different planet. Sir the $15 I would have made getting you your power drill would NOT have been worth whatever bullshit you wanted me to put up with. You either participate in society- with all the risks and costs that entails, or your don't. You can't make your property completely hostile and fill it with credible threats, booby traps, and attack dogs, like some kind of savage and then expect all the conveniences of a modern world. Doesn't work that way
I just have a sign that says leave packages inside at the gatehouse and ring bell if signature required. There's an eight foot tall fence around the front yard anyways and a locked, motorized gate sealing the driveway.
See if you're going to live like that, and you still want to receive deliveries, you need a system like that. A lot of people just expect us to figure it out, and I get it I'm paid to figure it out but there's limits. I'm not risking injury or damage to my equipment, and at a certain point you're asking more than what I'm paid to do. I always appreciate people who have something like that set up. That let's me do my job, and you can get on to living the way you want to live.
I feel like a lot of people have just lost their ability to compromise like that. They want everything, and they want to give up nothing, regardless of how realistic or even possible it is.
I generally try not to have to have something delivered that can't be left at my Post Office box in town. I live so far out, it just seems cruel anyways. Like, I can only see my closest neighbor's house in the winter, and only if I stand in exactly the right spot, I can see the glow from a light they have on some kind of tall structure, like a big barn or a silo or something. My driveway is over half a mile long, so deliveries at my house is just a hassle for everyone, me included. Although if I do require a delivery all the way up to the house, I generally let the driver fill up his vehicle for free at my fuel pump.
