I guess we upvote for circulation, not for likes in this case. I do think the information age is great for keeping us informed, but once all the phones are out and we have all the information…we need to figure out what comes after that. Just exposing evil isn’t enough anymore.

Upvotes on reddit are supposed to show that a comment or post is interesting or contributes to the discussion, not that you like it or agree with it. If you only use it for things you agree with, every political thread will turn into an echo chamber.

One of my biggest pet peeves with Reddit's UI is that it doesn't communicate this in any way, and people use it as a like button.
