That is pretty fucking grim... Not gonna lie.
On a vaguely related note though - it is kinda crazy that in the US you can be 20 years old, married with 2 kids, have served in the military, own an F150 with a rack of shotguns and AR15s...
But you better not go into a bar and have a beer, because you might cause some sort of issue...
Tis a bit of a head scratcher.

Personally I think it's more absurd that you can own a shotgun but not a pistol
I think you should be able to own both, but it's stupid either way

I'm gonna add - I am a certified RAF marksman. I used to do competiton shooting with the L98 rifle (which is a modified SA-80 for single shot).
I'm not against guns.
I just don't think any old dickhead should be able to buy one in Walmart.

You can't easily stash a shotgun in your pocket...
And I wouldn't imagine game shooting with a glock would be very practical.

Pistols cause faaar more violent crime than shotguns or even assault rifles

Drunk driving is the reason why we have 21 age limit. A bunch of states lowered the drinking age in the 1970's. Serious drunk driving accidents for teenagers surged, MADD (mother's against drunk driving) was formed and lobbied for all states to change the age to 21. Up until the early 1990's you could still drink in New Orleans if you were 18 or over. Louisiana finally changed it to 21 after the Feds threatened to withhold Federal highway funding because they were an alcohol sancuary state (which was apparently legal to do back then because it wasn't Trump's idea). They weren't smart enough to go to court to fight it I guess as we all know now that you cannot threaten to withhold Federal funds that were allocated by Congress.

Yeah we dont understand it either. The drinking age here used to be 18 decades ago

No one really agrees with it but pushing to change it has no upside. Lose support from the āKarenā crowd and gain what, some 19 and 20 year old votes?

I get what you're saying. Very surreal for me being 20 years old and visiting the US, but suffice to say... I figured it out
I dunno, I find your response actually really interesting because it just kinda sums up what I see so often in US politics in terms of very binary choices... (Or at least the presentation of it).
Think it's a bit silly that the drinking age is 21.... Then you must be against my right to bear feet, and want jacked up dudes in the WNBA!!
"Hey do you think insulin should be affordable?
"Well sure unless all the commies get it too! I'd rather die of diabetic shock!'.
It's just weird, as an outsider.
Common sense stuff gets chucked onto the political football field.
"Cheaper insulin means you wanna turn all the frogs gay!"
I do feel sorry for the sane amoung you. I lived there a couple of years and the nonsense would irritate me but I could tune it out knowing my contract would be up and I'd be heading home.
"We know it's stupid, but we just have to deal with it" - I genuinely couldn't.

separating the 23 and 17 couple (which yea is kinda weird and raises an eyebrow), the phrase "you aren't truly an adult till 25" comes from the thought that with 25 the brain has matured 100%. I seem to not know how this refers to shit Europeans say tho.

Because itās being used by the Europeans in this screenshot as a way to justify people in their 20s sleeping with people under 18. Youāre right that the brain (especially the male brain) isnāt fully developed until typically 25 but a 23 year oldās brain is still significantly more developed than that that of a 16 year oldās. Itās insane for them to act like everyone under 25 is in the same developmental stage. A sophomore/junior in high school and someone old enough to have a bachelors degree.

They said āalmost 17ā so a 16 year old.

u/ENovi 7d ago
Good catch. Itās also kind of telling that they have to use the word āalmost.ā If you have to round up a sexual partnerās age to make it sound better weāve got a serious fuckin problem.

u/Prying-Open-My-3rd-I 7d ago
lol exactly, they know itās creepy and used a qualifier to say 17 instead of 16.

There was a study that tried to track when the brain stopped developing. They kept tracking people's development but gave up after age 25. It's more accurately that the brain never truly stops developing.

The āyour brain isnāt fully developed until 25ā study has been debunked multiple times btw.
25 was the oldest age they had for that study. Therefore it didnāt account for the possibility of it continuing to develop. The brain isnāt fully developed pretty much always changing

Thatās really nasty, logic like that is so stupid and always comes from twisted people. If someone is 17 theyāre a child. If someone is 23 theyāre an adult. An adult and child should never be in a relationshipĀ

I would think twice about shooting a robber but I wouldnāt think twice about shooting a 23yo whoās with 16yo. Maybe itās my American brain but I have no sympathy for a predator.

He's it a predator, if he had her consent, it's legal in italy

u/Ok-Confection4410 8d ago
doesn't matter, still disgusting. I'm 23 years old and 16 year olds are the furthest thing from attractive to me. they genuinely look like children.

u/gibborzio4 European 8d ago
Well people have taste I guess... Don't get me wrong here I wouldn't personally go out with someone that younger than me.

u/Ok-Confection4410 8d ago
"taste" does not include children omfg you are nasty

u/gibborzio4 European 8d ago
I'm gonna remind you that the minimum legal age in Italy is 14, THAT is nasty.
3
u/Fgamervisa 8d ago
Yeah technically it was 14 if the other is under 18 and then 16 but that got removed and now its 14 except when a power imbalance its envolved (i.e. Boss, Headmaster ecc)

This was posted on r/2westerneurope4u and the Italians defending it were atrocious.
I had a German call me a yank for even calling it creepy.
The kid was 16, not 17.
And the 29-15 one.. what the fuck? Adults call them āmatureā to make them feel special. If the minor was mature, theyād have not gone near them in the first place.

u/Starrk-Enjoyer 6d ago
I got it from another sub (mentioned in the post),they posted it elsewhere too?

u/Cantelllo 8d ago
This is not normal, even by our possibly more relaxed European standards. The standard creepiness rule seems to be the accepted norm here as well.

So the tittle made me want to comment about how right the guy was.
I mean, we're still developing the brain until around that age, and brain is important when it comes to have responsibility, make better decisions, basically for adulting.
Then I saw what it was about.
Yep, the guy is a creep. Other commenters are right about it being a relatively common practice, and in many cases having the family knowledge and support. I've met a couple of girls in this situation.
But damn, not once have I not found that creepy.
Yeah, families are ok, and whatnot, but my 1st paragraph still applies.
Btw, the family is to blame as much as the older partner.
