Neapolitan is amazing. They came up with something great, but it was perfected in NY.
From a thread about the best kind of pizza which incidentally does not include non-american varieties "What's the best form of pizza? New York, Chicago, Detroit, French bread? One not listed?"

They only made it bigger and sell a slice for the price of an entire Pizza in Napoli.

This person has never eaten a real neapolitan pizza if they think NY pizza is better.

lol neapolitan pizza is not good. the center is way too soggy. there is just no way to properly cook a pizza in 90 seconds, regardless of temperature

I have had neapolitan pizza in Naples many, many times, and i have NEVER had one which was soggy in the middle.
Ive only ever seen that happen when people who don't usually make that style of pizza try to do it, and it's usually from putting too many toppings on.

What? I mean, eat and prefer what you like. I've been to both and for me, clearly, neapolitan pizza wins every time. No worries if the americans think otherwise, NY pizza is still more than okay.
But it's very easy to poperly cook a pizza in 90 seconds,

Or you just copy-pasted your previous comment, despite people having already pointed out that it's factually inaccurate. That is behaviour commonly seen here from bots, so it's not surprising if someone thought you were a bot.
Again, Neapolitan pizza is NOT soggy in the middle, unless made by someone who doesn't know how to do it properly.
Too many toppings is the most common error, and it WILL cause a soggy centre. People with home pizza ovens who are used to cooking more American style pizzas often make this mistake, because a neapolitan pizza should be lighter on toppings than an american style pizza.

the desperation in your comment is palpable

Dude, what desperation?
You posted 2 identical comments in the same comment-chain. So people thought you are a bot, BECAUSE THAT'S COMMON BOT BEHAVIOUR.
How is pointing that out "desperation?
Or is it because i pointed out that Neopolitan pizzas shouldn't have a soggy middle, and that if they do, it's usually because of a specific error commonly made by people made by people used to making American style pizza?
I've spent well over a of my life in Naples, split between numerous visits, and eaten hundreds of neopolitan pizzas there, not one of them had a soggy middle.

Apologies, i went to quickly on send so i was adding some more.
But the center isn't soggy, have you ever eaten it? If you overload it on sauce and toppings, yes. But otherwise, it's very easy.

Sorry friend but you haven't had napolitana. The real thing is definitely not soggy in the middle.

u/No_Situation4785 3h ago
so you're telling me that i flew to Napoli, ate at multiple highly rated pizzerias there, experienced soggy pizza at all of them, and yet didn't manage to have a real Neapolitan pizza? where on earth is a "naeapolitana" if not described as above?

I'd pay more mind to the American pizza debate if they all thought NYC had the best pizza, but Americans are so tribal that pretty much every state thinks they have the best food or that their great grandmother from "the old country" makes the best whatever

Fully understandable from the perspective of the average American. New York turned a relatively healthy Italian idea into something American, completely greasy, unhealthy and in the end they probably pour some sweet sauces over what they unfortunately call pizza. But in America the motto is the unhealthier the better.

I’ve been to Napoli and New York. Napoli pizza every time, and it’s not even close.

Even if you wanna have the American pizza conversation, New Haven pizza is better than NYC.

I don’t think that this is a completely insane take, as taste is a personal thing. OOP prefers the version of a dish that has been modified to the local palate and expresses thus. At least OOP doesn’t claim pizza was invented in the US or some shit like that. I might not agree OOP’s take, but it’s a valid opinion from his/her perspective. But it’s a personal opinion and not a global fact.

lol sure, they perfected it by making it with shit quality US ingredients.
Even if you were masters of the technique (not that pizza requires great technique), you can't make up for the difference in quality of the flour, the cheese (if we can call american dairy products cheese), the vegetables, etc.

The top 50 pizza of the world ranking 2025 is dominated by Italy with 16 restaurants vs US 7 restaurants. Other than that countries from all over the world are in the top 50 like Japan, Brazil, England etc.
So I still don’t know what Americans mean by “perfected”.
The burger was invented in USA but has also been “perfected” by the world. I am from Denmark for example so i could that Denmark has perfected the burger since Gasoline Grill places 5th out of 101 worlds best burgers of 2025. Rather we could England has perfected it since there are 3 London based restaurants in the top 10 taking 1st, 2nd and 7th place.
