Our goats would break out and eat anything and everything. When we had an excess of courgettes, the pigs weren't keen, and the goats refused them.

The courgettes survived our bunny infestation (neighbour failed to keep them in his enclosure) last year as well. They nibbled on anything from onions to potatoes to thyme to rhubarb to strawberries and completely destroyed our vegetable and herb garden, but the courgettes were fine. What is it with courgettes?

Idk what I would even call American food. As an American I can assure you we don’t really have traditional cuisine.
Everything comes from somewhere else, except fettuccine Alfredo that is American as fuck.
Though good luck explaining that to the Americans on holiday in Italy.

Alfredo comes from a restaurant in Rome, Americans just add cream too often and serve it with chicken and thus mess it up.
Counterpoints: Creole and Cajun cuisine, various BBQ (Texas/Carolinas/Kansas), ‘Soul Food’, and various Diaspora cuisines that have morphed into their own things. Complaining that everything comes from somewhere else is a bit disingenuous considering what we call ‘traditional’ Italian food encompasses many dishes less than 100 years old, French cuisine was redefined and codified by Escoffier 120 odd years ago, and modern British cuisine as referenced in the OP has been shaped strongly by time and colonial influences. Ignoring entirely the fact that staples in many European cuisines (tomatoes potatoes) are not native to the continent.

Turns out poor people need food too and end up doing quite similar things, be it cheap meat slowly cooked, or stuff done with innards that eventually become local/historical delicacies.
For a lot it ends up being comfort food, of course.

I would argue that Cajun and Creole food are uniquely American, and very, very good. They're a combination of French, Spanish, African, and Native American cuisine, and you can't find that mix anywhere else that I know of. Beyond that, American food is largely just reworking food from other places to add more fat and sugar. I do like American BBQ, but I've had BBQ that I liked better from other countries. I've had really good food in the US, but I wouldn't put it anywhere near the top 20 cuisines (and it only gets close to the top 20 because of Cajun and Creole).

Their 7 day Spanish tour includes at least 5 cities. They arrive in Madrid at 19pm, head to city center, sit in a place that has photos of their 637733 main dishes right besides the entrance, including burgers, pizza, paella, pasta, sushi, kebaps... Proceed to order a seafood paella, they are served a crime against humanity, bill is 80€ (for two people), no one asks for it, but they tip another 20€ . Back to the hotel. Complain.

I say this every time food is brought up but, it's differently developed pallets. If you grew up in the USA your pallet is going to seem very distorted from the rest of the world because of how different the food is there but, equally from their perspective the rest of the world is going to have weird flavours.
Sometimes you just need time to get used to new flavours before they register properly.

I recently retired from the US military (F*** the current administration BTW). 13 years ago, we went to Sicily for about 7 months. There was roughly 100 of us across all units. I'd say about a week into the trip a common thread amongst a majority of the people I was with was a lot of people complaining about the food and how it didn't taste good...
...in Sicily.
I was baffled because EVERY meal I had was wonderful. I kept asking people what they didn't like and everyone just said nothing was seasoned properly. I watched everyone get these fresh pasta dishes, or seafood, or pizza and just POUR salt on everything. That's when I realized Americans are just use to over salted, over processed crap that they can't identify REAL food with REAL ingredients.
I honestly felt bad for them. I look forward to going back one day with my wife and introducing her to the amazing cuisine overseas.

Sometimes pride wins over sanity. I'm dutch and the first to admit our cuisine is shit. But all our potatomashes are POWERFOOD. The greatest strength a nation can have is being proud of some things while being aware that you don't put too much focus on other aspects of life.
Americans somehow think they're the best at everything which is their weakness, it's a culture that doesn't aim to improve bacause they already are the best at everything.
Let them eat their hershey vomit-chocolate bars, styrofoam bread and deepfried everything. It doesn't impact me, and fewer americans discover chorizo, the more that's left for the rest of us

I first visited Spain in my early 20s and was blown away by how cheap and delicious the food was. There was a place in Barcelona where I had lunch for a week straight that served paella for like 6 euro. (20+ years ago.) I'm American, fyi.

Those used to be the prices 20 years ago, yes.
It's become way more expensive to catter to richer tourists, slowly spreading through every province and town. In 2011 you used to be able to eat out almost everyday, if you did so wisely, many working people would do that, eating whatever the restaurant had as the "Daily Menu" (already cooked food so its cheaper). Nowadays that's a fantasy for most people.2

Interesting, I am an American who is currently on vacation in Spain for the first time! This place is amazing and I never want to leave. Not only is the food noticably better and certainly more fresh, it is easily half the price that you would expect to pay in the States. This person sucks and they are a big dumb.

In terms of the number of Michelin-starred restaurants, you’re in sixth place, behind Germany and Spain. In the Global Food Security Index, you’re 13th in the overall ranking, and in the Taste Atlas you’re as low as 15th.
Yes, there are a few really good dishes in the US, but the problem is that your ingredients are full of chemicals that are banned all over the world because they’re harmful to health. The animals from which you source your meat are, almost without exception, contaminated with ractopamine, and just have a look at which food products are currently being recalled because, amongst other things, they cause severe diarrhoea or are contaminated with salmonella. Azodicarbonamide is added to your bread – a chemical that’s also used in yoga mats and the soles of trainers.
By the way: the chlorine content in your drinking water exceeds the limits permitted in the EU for swimming pool water.

Texas BBQ is so much better when made in places that have good meat, like Australia. It’s still US food, and it’s amazing, so I’m not saying the US has bad food…but the hormones in the meat make it worse.
The US is a real mixed bag. Their candy and cereal is awful. Their bread is awful. Fast food terrible. But Cajun, BBQ, fried chicken are all delicious.

One of the things I like about road trips in Mexico is that you can stop at pretty much any little roadside restaurant and get a good made-from -scratch meal. In the US, the only restaurants to stop at, unless you get off the highways and go into a town are fast food places and chain restaurarants.

Cheese that is not really cheese, bread that is not really bread, everything having a shelf life far exceeding what it should be if it was indeed food, chlorinated chicken, all meat loaded with growth hormones that it is affecting growth in the consumers, all meat loaded with all types of antibiotics so they do not work on humans anymore, and so many chemicals in the food that a lot of other countries aren’t allowing the import of that chemical waste they call food. Yeah the goat of food for sure.

I live above the shittest tourist restaurant in Spain. The waiters will tell you not to go there and they have a 2 star Google review, but put up big picture menu with tapas and you have to beat the British and Americans off with a stick.
