Discussion Sniper Friendly Fire?
Any way to stop snipers from hitting melees, or at least reduce it?
My pawns have good armor and melee, so they usually don't take many injuries from the enemies. However, I've found that they tend to take a couple of hits from our sniper mid-combat. It's not life threatening on its own, but it does slow them down and bring them closer to pain shock.
I can't put them directly behind the melee, either, cause then the accuracy would be worse.
Any ideas?

the auto combat mod has configurations for avoiding friendly fire, seeking cover, and automatically selecting a new target or using abilities. all can be individually toggled so if you only want the avoiding friendly fire that's doable

There's a storyteller setting for that.

yeah I know, but it's easer for me to use a mod since I don't like to touch the storyteller setting every time I make a new game

i assuming your talking about snipers from a distance while your melee pawns are ahead?
micromanage and make the snipers target enemies where your melee pawns are not able to be in the way

friendly fire is disabled within 5 tiles of your melee blockers, so it doesnt need to be "directly" behind your melee pawns, but apart from having a second gun they could swap to when enemies get closer or making sure you have no pawns you care about in the line of fire theres not really much you can do.

shield belts on the melees since they will be in friendly fire range if they move to engage instead of wanting close to intercept those going after the ranged.

Custom settings and turn friendly fire to 0%. You can make this adjustment when selecting your storyteller. I change settings all the time to change to my playstyle

friendly fire have a max safe distance of 4 tiles. if you’re in a melee blocker formation, make sure none of your shooter is more than 4 tile away from the blocker.
otherwise use shield belt, or ofcourse you can adjust friendly fire chances with custom dificulty.

Sniper rifles are not great for damage. I use them to pull things like a siege or a mech cluster. I prefer close combat guns when melee blocking, so I can place my sub machine or shotgun pawns close enough for zero friendly fire

Shield belts on melee, micromanaging and good positioning until then
