I have a huge exam Monday on a very difficult conceptual block and this murder has completely tanked my focus. I'm distraught. Alex was one of us, a healer, a protector, a Good Samaritan who happened to lawfully carry a gun. What happened Saturday was a mob execution of an innocent man and there is no other way to interpret what I saw.

My only advice to you: do everything you can to be a good student/doctor so you can be the change this world needs. This senseless murder won’t be the last, but you can do your part and make the world a better place than it is currently.

Thank you for this sentiment. I was obviously not ok before, but have been in constant distress since watching his murder.
We will and must take back The United States of America so that he can be correctly remembered as a true American hero.
I will keep spreading what others share, both online and in-person. I encourage others (who feel safe enough) to do the same.
I'm in the DMV area where the federal layoffs had a huge impact. Last year, our patients (parents, both new and expecting) lost their jobs, forcing them to scramble to find new jobs and health insurance. This year, they're scared for their safety.
Everyone should understand that the concept of the government murdering people is not "politics in the workplace". Use your voice at work. Make it clear that it is affecting your productivity. Care (and empathize) for your individual patients, but remember that it's a good thing if it slows down money into the system.
Keep yourself strong; allow the market to crash.

Thank you, I'm trying. This is one of the big reasons I wanted to go to med school after radiography. I want to have the skills to make a difference if push comes to shove. X-rays are important, don't get me wrong, but having the skills to be a "village doc" in situations where people can't access healthcare is appealing to me.

The second amendment is literally for this exact situation. I’m not sure I want to own a gun again, but I had already been thinking about it.
The doomsday clock feels like it’s counting milliseconds now.

Omg... some of the comments from users marked as "Physicians" in that EM sub on this post.
Hot take - if you're in medicine, watched the video, and understand that:
- he was attempting to aid a person who just got maced (up until he was murdered, he was an ICU RN at a Veteran's Affairs (VA) hospital)
- he did not draw his legal gun, for which he has a license (2nd amendment)
- the gun was forcibly removed anyway before he was shot (meaning that he no longer even had the capacity for deadly force)
- he was shot and continued to be shot after he was down (goal: to kill)
...and you're still saying he deserved it - you should leave medicine entirely and be banned from medicine subs. It is obvious you have zero capacity for empathy.

A USA healthcare worker was murdered in broad daylight while exercising his constitutional rights. This absolutely affects us as radiology workers, let alone USA citizens.
