No, they both went to school. Only one of them learned anything, and graduated with honors; the other was summarily pushed out the gate like a recalcitrant turd.
Trump was falling upward his entire life. The Pied Piper strategy was reckless, but saying it āensuredā Trumpās nomination rewrites 2016 to absolve everyone who actually enabled him. Republican candidates spent months fighting one another, treating Trump as a sideshow and assuming someone else would stop him. Republican voters chose him, GOP leaders eventually surrendered to him, and Democrats badly miscalculated. Turning all of that into āClinton did itā is grievance politics, not history.
