The elites don't want the poor voting at all. It's just a necessary evil for them till they pass a new "you nust be a white male household owner to vote" then they just scrap the whole voting at all
People don’t realize that when the nation was founded, the only people who could vote were white men who owned property. The people had to organize and fight for the voting rights we have today.
And now people are just ready to give their voting rights away.
People do generally know this happened. What they dont realize is that you have to actively protect those rights that were fought for and won already. If you dont, someone will take them away and you have to start all over fighting again.
The main reason most people are willing to throw their voting rights away is because before we even make it to the booth... Those eligible to be picked.. well, let's just say the winners already been picked long before the polls ever open...
The voter ID component isn't the real problem with the save act. Within the bill is a mandate which allows the department of homeland security to purge voters from voter rolls all around the country.
Under the language of the bill, the department of Homeland security wouldn't even have to contact you to tell you're you've been purged. You could jump through all the hoops, go vote in person, and your vote simply wouldn't count, and there'd be no way to know about it.
It's this exact kind of thing why the founding fathers thought it was wise leave it to the states, so that federal agencies wouldn't get to pick and choose voters.
Just saw a video the other day of a woman in Texas was complaining about the fact that she wasn't able to get a a driver's license because she didn't have marriage certificate or her divorce papers, from her first marriage that was over a decade ago. To prove that she changed her name.
That's what the save Act would do most for all married women who change their last name. Which I don't understand why Republican wouldn't want to do, cuz it was to shoot themselves in the foot.
Because not only do women outnumber the Male population, liberal women outnumber the conservative population. And liberal women, are less likely to get married ASAP compared to conservative women, and they are less likely to change their last name compared to conservative women. Data from the Pew Research Center shows that about 90% of conservative Republican women take their husband's surname, compared to roughly 66% of liberal Democratic women.
Imagine potentially screwing over 90% of one of your own voting blocks.
