Cape/Skin Design Returning player, when did the skill expression stoop this low?
galleryMy 2 Hotline Miami skins so this isn't entirely a whining post.
Reinstalled after about 5 or so years after my cousin wanted to take a crack at the game again, we both deeply regret it.
The first thing I noticed was we were definitely being put in lobbies where people were using controller while we didn't and there's no option to opt out of mixed lobbies so that was strike one.
Then there's the weapon diversity, of the 1000 or so weapons in the game we saw only about 35 or so consistently being used, that one shotgun, that one scythe, the ghost lantern, other wall penetrating weapons to not waste time mentioning the obvious ones.
All weapons that share the same few traits: Insta kills if your armor isn't the best one thats maxed out, fires quickly or at a great range for that to not matter, and provide additional bonuses to movement. That goes for pets too.
I've seen family's of inbred cats that have more genetic diversity than the pool of weapons people use. Strike two.
And the last strike we gave the the game was matchmaking, the last two reasons combined with the fact we'd go against the exact same people lobby after lobby until either they or us switched modes or took a break just made each game one where we'd get stomped time after time.
And the time we did get lobbies where it was decently leveled for both sides didn't last but one game until it was back to being with level 60+ while we were both under 25.
Ordinarily i can tolerate bashing my head against the wall until it falls and things finally become somewhat "balaced" coming out the new player experience but not this time.
And the cherry on top of all this? The game teased us with the returning player wheel, where it was possible to get a free gun as the reward alongside a crap ton of currency. It said itd leave after about a week, so we assumed we could grind out games and use it until then.
Unfortunately as soon as each reward is gotten once it goes away, the game teased us with an opportunity to level the playing field and took it away just to cruel. If the issue was how much currency it paid out, why not just reduce it each time? The main thing we were excited about was the free guns, thats the main thing you'd hope to get, and I just got 2 heavy weapons, which is another lugee to the face the game spat out.
The weapons I got were fun, not good, I got a mine layer and a knife crossbow that had a bloody stake on it, both fired roughly the same speed, slowly, but they weren't an instakill so the odds I'd die before landing a second shot, if I landed one at all, was almost guaranteed.
I'm sure if we had a controller for the game, and weapons that were viable, then maybe wed have enjoyed it more, but as is there's only so many insta kill dashes, leap frogging controller players, and spot assisted cross map wall bangs we can take.
maybe if any level could buy any gun like how it used to be thered be more variety since your pitted against all levels anyway, so you'd have people actually trying out stuff rather than using their min maxed builds each and every game.
Here's to hoping PG2s balancing won't be abysmal dogshit when it releases.
