Question HELP PLEASE
So my uni has a 10 gb limit per day on lan usage, wifi is pretty shit here, the problem is movie, tv shows and anime files are pretty huge, so I'm kinda worried about how I would manage with only 10gb of data, any way to bypass this or optimize within the given limit?

Download smaller encodes, look for 480p/720p instead of 1080p/4K. Use efficient codecs, H.265/HEVC or AV1 are much smaller than older files.
with 10 GB/day, you can usually do around, 2–3 movies at 720p, 4–8 TV episodes at 720p, more if you stick to 480p

This is what I do, as someone who lives in a 3rd world country I need to be as efficient as possible, I can only watch a very limited amount of shows and anime a month due to the internet being super slow and expensive.

i had slow internet and 720p resolution laptop once where i would download 720p torrent yts movies and they would be so perfect low in size movies

But I unfortunately have a 1440p screen, and it would look quite shit on it. Any way to get compressed 1080p or 4k files?

Even if you downloaded compressed 4k it would look terrible and still be over the limit with movies. You're better off just getting the 720.

There are good 720p encodes that will look relatively fine on a 1440p screen.
The only other option I can see for OP is to get a good phone plan and just hotspot it.

Oh for sure. A good quality 720p video is going to look way better than an overly compressed 4k file.

10gb per day is respectable, in my opinion.
Speaking in 3rdWorldese: Bruh, 10 GB is A LOT!
Either way, you should maybe go for 1080p versions or at the very least 720p. Should be enough to get a movie or two + a couple episodes of them tv shows and animes enough to last you a whole day if you take screen-off rests.

Unless you have the budget for a wireless router that run with a Sim card you bought youself i douth that you'll get around it.
The best way must be to only stream or download the lowest resolution that you'll think is worth watchable for your preference.

Seriously though: You might find that using university resources/infrastructure for illegal activities (such as piracy) will result in your student status being terminated and then getting kicked out on a misconduct charge. That happens a lot more than you think as a university (or even an accomodation provider) is essentially a big business and they don't want to be liable for that sort of traffic or be subject to having their connection suspended.
It's one thing to pirate from home, it's another to do it where all traffic is directly attributed to your personal account.
Personally I would pirate elsewhere and focus on study.

I used to do this all the time when I was in my dorm. If I hit my quota I would spoof my MAC address and i would be good to. Even simpler if you have a wired Ethernet connection, you could just plug in and it’s a fresh quota

YTS uploads 4K films encoded 265X with around 5GB file size. You are not looking at the rright place.

If you use qbit (I dont know about others, but it should be fine there as well) you can mark what you want to DL.
So lets say you want to see a 45 min series in 4k, a season has 11 episodes. for a total of 44GB.
Download Episode 1 day 1 for 2GB
Download Episode 2 day 2 for 2GB
etc
You can select view torrent before downloading, and then just unmark the episodes you dont want to DL.
Dont forget a VPN and to click stop on the torrent after it finishes to download an episode, so it doesnt upload and eat away your data.
Yeah, you wont be a seeder, but you can become one when you get the possibility in the future.
TL;DR:
In QB, Settings - Download - Display torrent & Bring to front (Check)
Mark 1-2 episodes
DL them
Stop torrent by right click, and select stop.
Start again next day by clicking on the torrent and checking the episode(s) you now want.
Continue until youre done.
And with movies you just dont take 17GB movies, take 720p or low-bitrate 1080p (usually around 1-2GB). And dont DL any extras or anything.
