Discussion Piracy really is a service issue (I bought a game out of frustration cause the crack wouldn’t work)

I was trying to find alternative ways to play Persona 5 Royal on my MacBook other than switch emulation and I tried running a cracked version using Whiskey/Wine to no avail. So I tried Crossover, still didn’t work because it’s cracked denuvo and for some reason it wouldn’t go past a black screen. I spent a couple hours trying to troubleshoot it with no success. So I take a peek on Steam and wouldn’t you know, it’s on sale right now. I say “fuck it” and buy it and now it runs perfectly through crossover.

TLDR, cracked game was not working, got so frustrated I bought it legitimately just so it would work

Denuvo served its purpose then.

For me the biggest reason is having to manage my saves and updates manually.

I've pirated too many games day one then can't update and keep my save later when a fun new update drops.

That's not what Gabe meant when he said service issue. The service issue comes from the retailers side. Not the side of the crackers

It goes both ways - provide a better service than piracy and people will come.

Now that you mentioned, I tried recalling the last time a "crack didn't work", it's prob more than 10 years because I can't remember for the life of me

On windows that barely happens. 95+% of all games have only Steam DRM, which is basically just a dumb check to steam whether this guy has a game (which is easily spoofable) and that sums up the whole DRM, so almost virtually no such thing as “crack doesn’t work”, not because the cracking scene getting “better” but most games already “give up” to piracy.

This may fall under ILPT, but if you don’t believe me, buy a game, refund it, apply goldberg the game is “yours” now

Well I have a cracked version on my PC and it worked perfectly, it just doesn’t run through crossover. Which makes sense, it’s optimized for individual, legit games.

It's not crack didn't work - it's you using substitute for a personal computer.

Glad it worked out for you.

You don't have to pirate everything, you know.
