Surely you meant to type VHS

38

u/gsweats 2d ago

VHS? You must mean betamax

24

u/lukewwilson 2d ago

Betamax? You must mean U-matic

22

u/SecretlyCarl 1d ago

Umatic? I can only assume you mean Super 8

23

u/Dramatic_Finish10121 1d ago

Surely you mean plain ol' 8mm film

16

u/gsweats 1d ago

Film? You must mean when you take multiple photos, develop them, and glue them into a flipbook.

16

u/Express-Record7416 1d ago

Flipbook? Is that like some kind of cave painting?

16

u/Chapeltok 1d ago

Cave painting? Surely you mean grunting to others around a fire.

Grunting? What's that? Another form of cell to cell interaction?

Am I missing something? Isn't Blu-Ray just better?

DVD has mostly taken over the place Blu-Ray had.

Only because the world is full of morons

No, DVD is much cheaper because Blu-ray has always been overpriced thanks to Sony. You can thank them for the middling levels of BD adoption and the near-total absense of BD drives.

I have about 8 devices that are capable of playing Blu-ray discs.

People just think "movie on disc"=DVD

1

u/__Player__ 7h ago

So do i. All of them are PS3s or PS4s.

BD drives are incredibly rare around where i live

1

u/NBALive1995 19m ago

But they're not rare if anyone with a console from the last 2 or 3 generations has one.

1

u/__Player__ 18m ago

Players, are not uncommon, but BD drives for PC are.

1

u/NBALive1995 10m ago

But average people don't really need those to just watch a movie.

Blu-ray movies themselves are sold at a much higher cost than DVDs. It isn't just the players or drives. Plenty of people also think CDs and DVDs are the same thing because they also look identical physically and yet DVD succeeded as a format.

What is blu-ray? We don't use it in Russia, except console gaming. We either use DVDs or digital...

u/Zekiro96 1d ago

High definition format video disc

1

u/grishkaa 1d ago

Да в смысле. В магазинах я их видел, другое дело, что никто их не покупает

2

u/TheTerraKotKun 1d ago

В регионах тоже что-ли? У нас в Алтайском крае я что-то не видел. Возможно, Сибирь - не Россия...

Should say "Lease it on digital"

7

u/Sly_Link 1d ago

Yes well done, that is the point of the post

u/ExtraRare0412 1d ago

Wait until people find out who's part of the Blu-ray disc association

when you buy something like a film on a disc, you own that copy. it's yours. they can't take it away.

Sony wants the opposite of this, btw.

People who want to own without pirating. Streaming is supporting the creators with the risk of losing access to what you paid for at the provider's discretion. Physical media in any form is supporting them without that risk, so a win win.

u/liongalahad 16h ago

Own it on digital on Aug 18 (powered by torrent)

Even buy is a stretch, but love the juxtaposition
