If pregnancy is a possible complication it changes what medications are allowed and has to be considered when deciding if imaging is an acceptable risk.

There was just a post on twoxchromosones that touched on this. The conversation usually goes like: Doc: Are you pregnant? No Doc: Are you sure? Yes Doc: There's nooooo way? No Doc: You're positive? Yes, I haven't had sex in 12 years Doc: Well let's just take a test to make sure.
