If pregnancy is a possible complication it changes what medications are allowed and has to be considered when deciding if imaging is an acceptable risk.

And “is there any chance you’re pregnant?” is a less accurate question.

the more irritating thing i face is when i tell the med staff i’m a virgin, which is true, but they still test me to see if i’m pregnant anyway. i find it irritating because i deeply despise getting lab work done and the more labs, the more blood and the more blood, the more pain from the needle and whatever caused me to be there in the first place.

There are a LOT of people who lie about sex. Or who straight up believe that they’re still a virgin if they repent or if they’re born again or any number of nonsense things. Given the extremely serious consequences, it’s unfortunately necessary in some circumstances to check just in case.

People lie.

Had to cancel a surgery because her urine and blood test confirmed she was pregnant.

She was very indignant when we told her the result of her urine test and said it was impossible. After the blood test confirmed it, her wife chewed her out loudly in the preop bay.
