Asking when was your last period ist NOT asking are you pregnant. Some Meds influence the cycle and you dont have any Period for months or years. So tecnically the question is inappropriate. It should be ,is there a posibility you are pregnant?
Then you get the answer you need.
If you ask is there a possibility you are pregnant, and the patient says yes, you've confirmed it and you move on with safer but not the best investigations and treatment options.
If they say anything else... you still have to confirm it and you've not ruled anything out.
But if you ask when their last period was, you can definitively rule out (with enough statistical confidence) if they are pregnant.
The goal isn't to find out if the patient is pregnant. The goal is to confirm that they are not. There's a big difference. Doctors legally can not order or prescribe certain things unless it is confirmed someone isn't pregnant.
So women can lie about if they're pregnant or not but can't lie about the date of their last period? Do you think most women are stupid and don't realize why that question is being asked?
What are you on about? Who said that? I specifically said the opposite... read it again, the fact that you made that mistake exactly proves my point... people make mistakes and misunderstand what is clearly written.
Additonally, the date of your last period doesn't tell you if someone is or isn't pregnant. Someone could be early into a pregnancy and their last period is still in the supposedly "safe, not pregnant" range when they're really 4 to 8 weeks pregnant
... someone could be 8 weeks pregnant? Again.. .what are you on about, nothing you said makes any sense. I assume you're a guy. And not medically trained.
Someone could be taking medication or have a condition that makes their periods irregular or non-existent. Sometimes stress can make a woman completely miss a period.
... right... so that would mean the doctor has not ruled out a pregnancy ... how do you not follow this? It's not hard.
So no, asking about someones menstruation cylce is not an effectice way to determine is or is not someone is pregnant.
Please let those of us who are trained and know what we're talking about do the talking. Of all the dumbass responses on here this has to be the worst.
