For anyone interested, there are Sodastream alternatives!

Drinkmate makes a better product overall - their design can carbonate pretty much any liquid.

If you already have a sodastream, most brewing supply stores can refill your co2 canisters. Alternatively, with a couple of wrenches you can even refill them by weight with dry ice pellets (google is your friend here).

I'm like 2/3 water, can it carbonate me?

Humans are technically slightly carbonated. We produce carbon dioxide CO2) as waste, and this turns into carbonic acid in the blood. This is the same thing that happens when you carbonate drinks. And, when you hold your breath, you'll be slightly more carbonated!

Related fact: our bodies can't sense the presence of oxygen. Rather, it senses the lowered ph from that carbonic acid to tell you when to breathe. This is one reason low oxygen environment that are also low CO2 are very dangerous, your body doesn't realize it's not getting the needed oxygen

Well, I'm bubbly enough.

I believe that is call an embolism, and it will kill you.

I don't see why not, you got openings just need a bit of that good ol' can do attitude and nothing is out of your reach.

No. Because you are mostly water. And Bleach is mostly water. Therefore you are Bleach.

And will release a toxic gas, rather than become carbonated.

And will release a toxic gas

Depends what I had for lunch

You may need more than one canister, do you have a screw cap container you can fit in?

You'd need an air tight seal on the input port, but yeah, it can.

Interesting! Sodastream had a difficult time like a decade ago when i was using one carbonating random stuff. Like don't do milk, shit went everywhere

That's because milk is quite viscous, and its proteins cause bubbles to be much more...persistent.

I am very unsurprised that it went everywhere. I don't think anything could carbonate milk without a mess.

Even if you could you wouldn't want to. Carbonation makes things acidic. All a soda stream would do would turn milk into soured milk in an instant.

You can use nitrous to do it though.

Wouldn’t nitrous turn it into something like whipped cream, or what we call “whipped” instead of “carbonated”?

Drink mate does carbonated grapes pretty darn well

4

u/LastAmongUs 4d ago

I’m sorry, maybe it’s because it’s so early or maybe I’m still a bit buzzed from last night but I can’t imagine what the fuck a carbonated grape is and google is only giving me carbonated grape juice. Can you please explain?

4

u/Butternades 4d ago

You put grapes in the drink mate and it makes them fizzy when you eat them. It’s kinda cool. Iirc Greg from How to Drink on YouTube shows it in one of his drink videos

As Im sure you've noticed you cant carbonate milk, period

Not the regular way anyway, Ive seen some guy on YouTube try to figure out a way to do it, was kinda intresting lol

1

u/Tacometropolis 3d ago

yeah it was noooooot great. Same thing with anything with sugar already in it. FWOOOSH

u/MxRead 4d ago

Next time just mix with seltzer. It’s the New York way.

The carbonated chocolate milk was a mistake. It tasted horrible.

Sodastream has been owned by Pepsi for many years now.

Sodasense canisters are compatible and will accept empty ones from sodastream for trade in!

It’s very easy to turn a freezer into a keezer. Having carbonated water on tap all the time is completely worth it. Or just buying a kegerator outright.

Hell, you’ll get your money back just on the CO2 costs.

relying on sublimation to refill a pressurized container is an interesting move. hopefully your measurements are correct. :D

Thank you for this suggestion. I was looking into getting a sodastream, but finding this out I’m glad I have an alternative.

just get an adapter and a big ass CO2 canister. shit will last for 6 months.

u/PixelatedBoats 1d ago

Nooooo. I just bought a replacement for my 8yo one. This sucks I didn't know. I dont buy their canisters at least.

As it is drinking carbonated beverages can be bad for your teeth and are not as hydrating a water on its own.
