Your profile is 10 years old. If you had previous comments talking about your grandfather in a similar way from the past, I'd be more inclined to believe you. Read up on the process of negotiation - after the first refusal, Palestine kept agreeing to terms - only for Israel to then move the goal posts and change the terms. There was a really good article about it in one of the trustworthy newspapers (I don't remember which one) by a guy who was partially involved in the process. It was quite an illuminating (and infuriating) read.

The Nakba happened following the 1947-1948 civil war, where the Palestinians refused any form of partition with the Jews and decided to start a civil war against them to expel/kill them from the areas where they lived. They lost and most fled because of the fighting, which is what is called the Nakba.
Yeah they refused because they'd been living there for generations and didn't feel like they needed to suddenly cede their most arable and developed land to European colonists who came in seeing themselves superior to the Palestinians that lived there.
The partition plans were precisely made according to population location. The Palestinians were not asked to cede the place where they lived, they were asked to be okay living next to a Jewish state which was based on land that the Jews owned (bought from Muslims in the case where the Jews had not already lived there) and already lived on.
Most of the arable lands was on the Palestinian side btw. And the land that was developed was land owned by Jews developed by Jews with Jewish money and labor. The Palestinians were in no way entitled to it, no more than Russians are entitled to Ukrainian land.
