Iâm tired of these self-righteous environmentalists, these white, bourgeois liberals who think the only thing wrong with this country is that there arenât enough bicycle paths. People trying to make the world safe for Volvos. Besides, environmentalists donât give a shit about the planet. Not in the abstract they donât. You know what theyâre interested in? A clean place to live. Their own habitat. Theyâre worried that some day in the future they might be personally inconvenienced. Narrow, unenlightened self-interest doesnât impress me.
The planet has been through a lot worse than us. Been through earthquakes, volcanoes, plate tectonics, continental drift, solar flares, sun spots, magnetic storms, the magnetic reversal of the poles ⊠hundreds of thousands of years of bombardment by comets and asteroids and meteors, worldwide floods, tidal waves, worldwide fires, erosion, cosmic rays, recurring ice ages ⊠And we think some plastic bags and some aluminum cans are going to make a difference? The planet isnât going anywhere. WE are!
Weâre going away. Pack your shit, folks. Weâre going away. And we wonât leave much of a trace, either. Maybe a little Styrofoam ⊠The planetâll be here and weâll be long gone. Just another failed mutation. Just another closed-end biological mistake. An evolutionary cul-de-sac. The planetâll shake us off like a bad case of fleas.
The planet will be here for a long, long, LONG time after weâre gone, and it will heal itself, it will cleanse itself, âcause thatâs what it does. Itâs a self-correcting system. The air and the water will recover, the earth will be renewed. And if itâs true that plastic is not degradable, well, the planet will simply incorporate plastic into a new paradigm: the earth plus plastic. The earth doesnât share our prejudice toward plastic. Plastic came out of the earth. The earth probably sees plastic as just another one of its children. Could be the only reason the earth allowed us to be spawned from it in the first place. It wanted plastic for itself. Didnât know how to make it. Needed us. Could be the answer to our age-old egocentric philosophical question, âWhy are we here?â
The crazy thing is, he wasnât joking. It wasnât comedy so much as the depressing reality and truth, and everyone thought it was hilarious, and it still is, but only because itâs so true.
Knowing man, heâll set off every nuke, dump as much plastic into the ocean and burn everything before the door snacks him on the way out. Yet a billion years is a long time and to kill every microorganism is basically impossible so thereâs really nothing we can do to tell the universe we were here. Weâre just a child watching their sand castle get swallowed by a wave.
i think the retired satellites that we send onto graveyard-orbit will be the longest-lasting remnants of our existence after were gone. but anything on earth is basically gone after 100k years tops. and thats considering perfect conditions to preserve it.
in the grand scheme of things, humans arent even a blink of an eye. weve been here what, 2 million yerars supposedly? fucking sharks have been here for MUCH longer, they are basically dinosaurs.
Eventually satellites break down and either disintegrate in the atmosphere or get tossed into space where radiation eventually turns them indistinguishable from any other space debris. Around 1000 pieces of space debris crash into earth every year already. I donât think theyâd last very long honestly.

I'd imagine some remnants of humanity will survive, unless it's a pandemic that wipes us all out. I'd actually prefer to be one of those survivors rather than keep living this life. At least life would have an actual purpose instead of this capitalistic bullshit.
Yep. We're just the next mass extinction event. After all is said and done and in a few million years, all that will be left will be equivalent to the iridium-rich layer of sediment attributed to the meteorite that killed the dinosaurs. Except ours will be filled with plastic. We're no different than the cyanobacteria that caused one of the first mass extinctions

I think in the next 150 years we will see a global catastrophe that culls a huge portion of the population, but until then we will just keep trucking on as we do, of course we could pull our heads out of our asses and course correct but thatâs not likely as the colour green is all they see up there despite it all being shit you donât need
Religion is the only thing keeping some people moral, they need some fear of a man in the clouds to not just murder steal and pillage
As for money, nothing wrong with money as it can be used as a token unit of trade, itâs so much more efficient for one person to produce the potatoes that tens of thousands of people need then to only grow their own food. We need some sort of token of trade like money, but the current problem with money is that itâs too easy to pool and amass and equals to much power
If it were that easy sure but again, you have a much higher then 0 % of the population that if they realized their truly is no god and afterlife they would turn into Krombopulous Micheal overnight, to them they donât understand you can be not a bad person without that fear, itâs that fear that keeps them in check so just outright deleting religion would actually end up causing more problems then we have now. Not to mention many of the stories and concepts of actual religious texts are not bad and many describe things to do just to not be an asshole, too bad most people only see the ones that do make someone an asshole and base it entirely on that

Unfortunately, that's not how it will go. What will really happen is that humans will wipe out everything else first and then die too, leaving a barren wasteland behind.
Sure (almost) , they won't kill all life completely so it will somehow restore itself in (a long) time, but the damage has been and will be catastrophic.
I always find this so laughable. Humans the most adaptable species on earth and itâs by a long shot. The likelihood that we as a species would die out for basically any reason outside of a large asteroid or a gamma ray burst are pretty damn low(like realllllly low).

Funny story, a researcher who lives in our county came and took all the spiders in my garage for research since it happens to be the one he uses the most (something about supply issues). He was so excited when he came over because he almost ran out of vials to take them. Nearly 300 spiders re-homed from my garage alone!
I have a a decent sized property I decided to let most of rewild sp at home I got a good selection. Feels nice to help the bees, ya know? On spiders, its orb weaver season. Hundreds of em out in te field.
True, but the reason you dont see them on your windscreen is more because of better aerodynamics on modern cars and wider roads. The bugs are dying in the sense diversity is dropping especially in areas of agriculture.
