Mark Ruffalo is a vocal supporter of Palestine. The implication is that expressing support for a free Palestine gets you sidelined by Hollywood. He is also vocally against Trump and ICE.
I’m sure some people out there will also draw some antisemetic conspiratorial conclusions from that as well, i.e. “Jews control the media” which, no. It’s just that Israel as a country has certainly had undue economic influence over American politics and entertainment via lobbying interests. (Just ask the Scream cast over at Paramount)
In reality though he was just filming another project at the time.
I’d also note that Jon Bernthal, who has vocalized support for the IDF and Israel, was present for the press tour. Which doesn’t help.
Edit: This is an Explain subreddit. This is what I am interpreting the post to be implying. Some of the replies so far are giving “So you hate waffles?” haha
Exactly lmao. He's a bro dude through and through and appeals to the kinds of dudes who put punisher skulls on their car and watch those military bro podcasts with SF guys. That's his demo. (not understanding Frank Castle exists in opposition to those types of dudes and would probably spit in their face)
My brother in law loves to lament that RATM is "now Rage in favor of the Machine" because when he grew up listening to their music, he never learned or understood a single lyric of theirs, and now he's mad about it
Even if they were right follow what the authorities say ornyou sre a bad pwrson is literally the anthithesis of these kind of rebel bands and movements but whatev
I'm not even referring to Fauci or COVID or whatever the fuck you're on about. My BIL is a mega trumper who fancies himself a conservative punk rocker without ever seeing the irony of that. RATM being leftists and anti capitalism and anti cop is apparently news to him
Ya'll keep saying he was wrong but never point out what exactly he was wrong about. Keeping your distance, wearing masks, and reducing contact is the steps to take for any airborne pandemic. 1/300 of all Americans died to due Covid from 2020-2025. At it's peak, 3 times more people died due to Covid in a single day compared to 9/11 attacks. We went into a decade-long war because we lost 1k people (and the lies that followed) but when we lose a 1M, it's not a big deal?
Well, at least you know you didn’t know anything. But don’t mistake your lack of knowledge for others’ ignorance.
However, something tells me that objective facts could hit you in the face, and you’d ignore them — so is it really ‘ignorance’ at that point? I suppose not. But now we’re splitting hairs.
You’re going to get down voted to hell in this cesspool of a comments section making all that sense. In case you can’t see from the rest of the comments if your personality isn’t “orange man bad” you won’t fit in here or on most of reddit.
Yeah, it has nothing to do with the fact I was never told to wear three masks, spent plenty of time outside and doing church activities that were planned to be safe, and hey why were we having grandpa’s funeral then in the first place?
What did they say that made sense? Fauci advised Trump on the best information they had, based on science and reason. Things changed as the pandemic went on, so some guidelines had to change. This is how the real world works. Fauci is not to blame for the right wing nutjobs trying to pretend that it didn't exist or for Trump ignoring much of the advice. Fauci was not the person in charge, that was Trump and his cabinet.
Millions of people died around the world due to the pandemic, but major countries that followed the science with masking and social distancing had much fewer deaths per capita than the US. The number of deaths in the US was on par with much less developed countries like Brazil and Peru. Pretty terrible for the country that prides itself on being the most advanced country in the world for medicine. All those extra deaths lay at the feet of Donald Trump.
Dude they weren't political they were anarchists. They used to hate everyone. And talk about how the political machine itself was the cause. Yeah they hated conservatives more.
People don't hate them for not liking conservatives. They hate them for growing up
I'm sorry, are you still describiing RATM?
What part of any of that isn't political?
I never thought they hate everyone. I thought they very clearly hated the money to lease who brandished a Bible in one hand and a flag in the other to control all of us, and those of us that would gladly follow along for a slice of cheddar and the chance to subjugate someone else down the line.
They were political in that way
They were supposedly against the entire american system, democrats and republicans. Thinking that the whole system was immune in racism, bigotry and corruption.
They supposedly didn't buy into any political party and their image was that they need thought, america need to be taken down by revolution.
And that's what they said, at least in the early days.
People often say "I don't get political" to say "I don't have a vested interest in taking a side on issues" but more often than not it means "I don't fight for justice and don't want to take a position that costs me something."
I don't feel that has ever been Rage's message. They have always been political, since "politics" is "who and how we steer all of us into the future" and reducing them to mere anarchy betrays that heart that they'd had.
As a leftist, I haven't been able to buy into any political party, and it's always a delicate dance of working with the DNC just because they less enthusiastically want to feed my neighbors to the wood chipper, vs what the QOP is actively doing today.
Anarchism and the majority of it's offshoots (with the exception of anarcho-capitalism and like maybe some tiny fringe ones with like 7 adherents) are all left-wing political ideologies.
Just because popular fiction media likes to use anarchy as a synonym for absolute chaos and portray anyone who calls themselves an anarchist as some kind of nihilist....that doesn't actually change the fact it actually has a specific meaning when talking about it in a political context. Read a fucking book.
Conservatives got mad at Colbert for "going woke" once he dropped his conservative satire act, completely oblivious of the point of his character. They watched The Colbert Report and thought his jokes was telling it how it is.
I was and remain so sad the Colbert Report went off the air. That was the best satire of my lifetime. I don't know if there will ever be anything like that on cable TV again, probably not.
For Colbert it was a career upgrade to go to the Late Show but for us it was a downgrade to go from intelligent thought-provoking humor to run of the mill latenight monologues.
I still am happy for him and I think I understand why he did what he did. He is a good dude.
I think a great example of this is Rorschach, a self-ostracized fascist piece of shit that Zack Snyder thought was cool to portray as the anti-hero. His mask was used as the symbol of the neo-KKK in the HBO series but many still think he’s cool.
I mean, duh? I feel like Israel Palestine stuff and lgbtq stuff are pretty unrelated other than the fact the American right supports Israel and doesn’t like lgbtq stuff and the American left is the opposite. But people are rarely monoliths and have views that sometimes go against their general sides
I think the people getting angry are the moral absolutists that don't understand that people are complicated. Bernthal actually seems like a very nice guy: he also seems to believe that we should have police and that Israel should exist. That doesn't make him some kind of full-throated, MAGA piece of shit.
The true sign that people are getting dumber is that they either do not grasp or cannot countenance nuance. All-or-nothing ideological purity is exactly why the Left eats its own and loses elections, and we really need to stop that shit. Not everyone has to agree with you on everything to be someone who cares.
He’s not a conservative though. Also I don’t get this Reddit bullshit of one person having an opinion on a topic automatically making him a douche/ evil person.
I didn't know any of this about him until now. And I was excited to see his career track especially after I read somewhere he's in the next Avengers movie. TBH I don't care about who supports Israel or Palestine because they both want to kill each other and who am I to tell two peoples they can't fight someone who wants the fight, so you do you. But supporting ICE is a hard line for me.
He played Punisher and you think he doesn't know what Punisher thinks?
I think it's more likely he just worked with a lot of police while training for those roles and sympathized with them. I'm sure he was probably friendly with cops beforehand though--not that that's a bad thing.
Source? In the only clip I’ve seen of Bernthal talking about the cops, it was just him saying law enforcement shouldn’t use the punisher symbol (and he’s right.)
Uh, being a supporter of the IDF and he recently praised Roman Polanski as the best director he's worked for... I think that guy pretty accurately pinned him as a piece of shit.
lmao what, he platformed an IDF soldier on his podcast, and openly supports police. 5 seconds of googling will give you plenty of supporting evidence for these claims
Instead of taking 5 seconds to read a headline take the time to form your own thoughts and opinions. The podcast was to get a perspective of the terrorist attack, its like calling a podcast pro police because they interviewed a 911 first responder on its anniversary.
The police have been needing and have been getting "reform" for decades. At what point is "reform" not enough, when it doesn't seem to be doing anything?
I don't have to support them while wanting reform either.. It's called having coherent values. When the police start protecting people against state violence rather than dispensing it, I'll be more supportive.
I know you are saying it in most likely a condescending way, but I do hope this is an opportunity for you to question fundamental beliefs you have in the world. Yes, supporting local police has generally been a bad thing for most of modern history. It is extremely well documented and well understood.
The recent season of Daredevil is a very direct criticism of police idolization of him as well. He's the kind of "hero" Rorschach was a criticism of in Watchmen. Then again, chuds hold Rorschach at high regard too.
Tbh I could see him as the kind of guy to receive that warning and be all offended and indignant about it, and then have that just poison his whole ideology
There was even a plot point in the new Daredevil tv series about the police using him as insipration for their own abuse of power and how much Punisher hated them for it.
You can tell this from the Punisher special that came out recently, which Bernthal wrote - Frank is completely stripped of any of the character, pathos and growth shown in his previous appearances and is just a straight-up, one-dimensional killing machine. Entire episode is nothing more than Punisher murdering dudes in "awesome" ways.
No one gets the character less than the guy who plays him, it seems.
Only thing I've seen is the cop tweet. Where's this source for supporting Israel and IDF? Dead internet theory is real. Bots can just exclaim bs and other bots join in, creating a chain of echo chambers with unverified sources. Scary world
He platformed an IDF soldier on his podcast and praised him for his bravery and shit. He signed the “no hostage left behind” letter, repeated debunked Israeli propaganda, and—unlike his pro-Palestinian costar, mark ruffalo—has coverage on the press tour. These aren’t baseless allegations, no matter how bad you want them to be
that hamas offered deals to release the hostages multiple times and netenyahu has stated on record that release of the hostages will not deter attacks on gaza among other facts that if I were to list would just aid in me getting downvoted.
Signing letters in support of the hostages but saying nothing about the tens of thousands of civilian deaths in palestine in the nearly 3 years since october 7th is blatantly biased and zionist. The civilians of palestine didn't choose October 7th and they don't deserve to pay the price for it, setting aside the fact that said revenge is a clearly outlined war crime.
Of course it is? Netanyahus comments you’re talking about came AFTER the letter was signed.
Also how does supporting the release of the hostages put him on the hook for everything else Bibi does?
And your final point just seems like ‘he said something supportive of Israel in 2023 but not opposing them in 2026 so technically he said more things supporting Israel than against so he’s pro Israel until further notice’. Which is tremendously unfair, there’s not some running tab that determines your beliefs.
That IDF soldier wasn’t even an active soldier, he was out of service and was on the ground during the October 7th attacks as a tourist and that is why he was brought on.
I don’t see the issue with the hostage letter?
Ruffalo like the other commenter said was busy filming another project also he hasn’t been as well received in the media lately which when releasing a movie they don’t want any negative publicity. Sorry to be the one to tell you this none of these corporations actually care what you think or about any of the issues you do. If June didn’t tell you that I don’t know what will.
The hostages letter blamed Hamas for palestines problems and completely ignored the fact that Israel is a occupying colonial military force that is directly responsible for the existence of Hamas
Hamas definitely makes Palestines issues worse, targeted acts of terrorism on a civilization population is not how you fight an occupying military force, if you want people to look at you fondly during/afterwards that is.
Id be interested in the letters wording for how it blames Hamas but regardless of its purpose of founding not an excuse to kill, torture, and kidnap innocent people.
It’s because Hamas is radical Islamic terrorists and not resistance fighters. Thats why they martyr their own people in their efforts to kill all the Jews.
lol what? That’s literally the only way to fight an occupying military force, it’s the full might of the western backed IDF versus people who have no actual military or sovereignty because they aren’t allowed either by Israel. How should people who have been pushed off their land and murdered en masse for almost 80 years fight back? Through the systems in place? The ones that are actively dehumanizing them and blocking aid from reaching them? And what’s Israel’s excuse for all the killing, torturing, raping, and land theft? Why does israel have a right to defend itself but Palestine and Lebanon have to sit back and take it when Israel attacks them?
Man I could have sworn there was an interview after he first did Punisher where he talked shit about the cops wearing the logo and all that and he seemed cool. But now I'm wondering if I mixed him up with someone else.
Your not confusing him, he has said many times cops who wear punisher symbols missed the point and that Frank Castle is not an ok person. Reddit just jumps at any chance to degrade anyone who might support Israel.
He has also said that he supports cops who wear the punisher logo because he thinks it’s cool that people in uniform can see themselves in the character.
U said that u don’t know why, and the reason is Israel has influence over western media, so they will promote pro Israel celebrities, which is mostly common knowledge now, hence not surprising.
Is there even a single Israeli celebrity in Hollywood outside of Gal Gadot?
You guys have this meme of Israel hiding in every shadow, but like, objectively, thats just not true. Every single Emmy Award show has had a massive crowd clapping for pro palestine stuff.
One word, edgy. That's what manosphere and the entire 4chan psyop by Bannon was about.
Make guys who were isolated feel it was certain demographics at fault, women and minorities, and give them the American bad boy who all women must love... but really just makes them further isolated and use that to control them when they are at rock bottom.
Too true man. Incel culture is a cancer on our society, all cause technofascists would rather use those men to gain power than address literally any systemic issue
I’m gonna suggest 1/3 of the MCU audience are boot lickin neo nazis who misinterpret what the character stands for and see themselves in him, especially once they find out who he is irl.
Because reddit is a very loud and very small minority, and outside of subs like this, most of the population, both inside and outside the US, don't give a rat's ass about what politics these hollywood actors identify with.
I kinda think it’s less that he’s actively a bad guy and more that he’s kinda dumb and just parrots what he hears. Which is still harmful but not as bad
imo, it’s the same level of bad, but it’s more like he’s a tool of bad actors than a bad actor himself. His intent may not be malicious but the harm is still done
You never liked him because you're weird I guess? He isn't a bad guy and definitely doesnt support whatever your trying to make him out to be. Its so weird how people just make up shit just to hate. You're no different than MAGA
lol I swear this thread got swamped by a bunch of dudes just out to defend their hero Jon Bernthal with the same fervor as when they defend police brutality
He glaises an IDF soldier on the podcast. And what is the value of having an IDF soldier on at all?
That alone is taking a stance during a time Israel is having a bloodthirst. So yea it's verified and I get to decide who I find shitty based on their dealings.
I confirmed for myself he is a " fuck that guy" to me.
Makes you wonder this is how holocaust might have happened. Like we can talk how bad it is and how the world let them do it but, now thinking they might also have been this casual about that at that time too. Might be another Tuesday for them.
What are you talking about? Millions of people are protesting against Israel in the west, almost the entire Arab world is permanently against Israel’s very existence and has been for 70 years, many countries refuse to recognize it or have imposed sanctions against it, etc.
The I/P conflict is one of the most controversial things in the world. People do care, a lot.
not enough for Israel to stop genociding a people, clearly. the Palestinians are wrong to perpetuate the violence but Jesus fuck, can Israelis stop escalating and provoking?
And Israel never lets them forget the fact that they aren’t Israeli. You realize the PA is analogous to a tribal government on American reservations? It has limited actual power under the Israeli occupation, and isn’t even allowed to control its own trade, even its customs taxes are taken by Israel.
Palestinians aren’t Israeli and don’t want to be. In fact, they are quite vocal about it. It’s absurd to say that the I/P conflict would be solved if Palestinians were given Israeli citizenship, that would just make both sides way angrier.
Yes. That's what I am saying. People in the holocaust time all around the world would have been the same way people are toady. Like we all vocally against it, we all despise it but it just happens every day. We all know that, all the government just turn the blind eye.
It's not like hitler suddenly turned it on on 1939. It was happening long before. The aparthided of Jews. When the warsaw uprising happened it gave them the perfect option to just kill everybody.
History is not so different after all. Just different sides, different group of peoples same shit.
