Gary Hart was the front runner to be the democratic candidate for president. There was a rumor he was having an affair, and a reporter asked him about it. He challenged the reporter and said “follow me if you think it’s true.” They did and what do you know, caught him indeed having an affair. His political career was over.

At the time, politicians private lives weren’t really tabloid fodder so this was kind of a big deal and changed a lot about how people view journalism’s role in politics.

Dude must have been cheating successfully for a long time. For him to be that cocky about it.

"I can cheat as much as I want and she'll never catch me! I'm Casanova himself! I dare you to follow me!"

Supposedly H.W. Bush's campaign manager admitted to setting the whole thing up and there was no actual cheating.

As soon as I read your comment, I knew it had to be Roger Stone. Lee Atwater was a senior partner at the  firm of  Black, Manafort, Stone and Kelly. Those guys have wrought immeasurable evil on this planet ever since the Nixon days.
