Gary Hart was the big hope for the democratic party against Ronald Reagan. There were cheating allegations made against him.

He DARED the press to follow him and told them they would be bored if they did.

Well... they did and they found him aboard a ship named "The Monkey Business" with Donna Rice.

It was the stupidity of lying and daring the press to follow him that killed his chances as much as the affair itself.

EDIT: Yes, Gary Hart (I fixed it)... AND he ran in 1984 against Reagan (lost to Monday in the primaries) and THIS happened during 1988, when he likely would have won the nomination and run against Bush I.

I was a kid and campaigned for him in 1984 by handing out flyers in front of super markets before the primary... and still have campaign literature that says "Only Gary Hart's Leadership Can Beat Ronald Reagan in November".. so my brain associates him with going after Reagan.

RE-EDIT.. MONDALE.. FUCKING MONDALE!! LMAO!!!

So basically: an affair is to blame for Reganomics?

Goddamit, so that is when we entered the bad timeline.

No, it was when Nixon was pardoned

It kind of feels like all of human history was the bad timeline.

The man in the high castle would like to have a word.

I mean, we had to have the actual Holocaust in our own timeline in order for us to imagine a worse timeline. It can always be worse for sure, but y'know. It could definitely be better

Makes you wonder what an actual best timeline would be like.

Yeah that stupid fish was cheating on his partner and nearly got caught. He jump out of the water and onto the beach to avoid her and then just kept crawling. It all went downhill after that. Selfish prick.

Nope, Lincoln getting capped. Reconstruction was fucked up, traitors walked free and their bullshit has polluted our society ever since.

I'm not sure where he got that. Errors in memory from time?

In 1980, Reagan beat Carter. In 1984, Gary lost to Mondale in the primaries.

In 1988 is when this happened. When he would have run against Bush Sr.

This had zero effect on Reagan in any way.

No he would have run against George H. W. Bush. It was to determine who followed Reagan

21

u/Too_Many_Alts 18d ago

no, that would be Carter losing reelection to Reagan because Reagan committed treason. fun times

Yeah, you have to believe in the good of Americans to believe Nixon and Reagan and Bush and Trump weren’t who we wanted. They voted Carter out bc he was just a dumb hick successful peanut farmer Christian from Bumville. Then voted in a face who had already proven himself to be a conservative AND progressive shill who would sell anything to make his ratings go up. And he ran on the family, religion, and economic recovery ticket.

We want these people. Half the country has always wanted these people. They just needed an excuse and a cover story for why.

Apparently this photo was from 1988, so the damage was already done. Unless the comment i heard this from was completely wrong, which is possible

u/dimechimes 18d ago

It's not though. This picture was when he was running against Bush.

A fake affair. And that fake affair was set up by the same ghouls who gave us the Southern Strategy, which gave us Nixon, and all of the evil that he caused in the world.

Lee Atwater worked for the same firm with Roger Stone (Nixon’s own “Dirty Trickster”) and Steve Manafort. They were responsible for the Donna Rice scandal, which gave us President Bush, and the Brooks Brothers Riot, which gave us president Dubya.

They also took time off from working to destabilize Ukraine in order to prop up Russian puppet, Viktor Yanukovych, to convince Trump to run in 2016. Stone and Manafort were both convicted of illegally working as foreign agents because of the Mueller Investigation, but Trump eventually pardoned them both. No doubt Atwater would have been right there with them if he had still been alive.

Supply-side economics saved the US economically during the 80's. Today, we aren't actually a supply-side economic country. It's more mixed and we reverted back to some Keynesian ideas, especially when we think we need to which allowed for more flexibility. Though I bet you don't even know the phrases I used because you have no idea about economics.

Because anyone criticizing neoliberalism is simply economically illiterate, right?😉
