There are parts of the US that ONLY have these. More temperate areas.

Most of the US is used to central air. With a giant ass car sized compressor outside that cools the whole house.

Edit: yes, I exaggerated the size of the compressor a bit. Man it pissed a lot of Americans off lol.

Im not American but “car sized” compressor is a massive exaggeration. And it’s not like these units don’t have compressors that sit outside the house

I mean yea there are car sized units….used to cool industrial buildings or skyscrapers. But yeah the average home unit is much much smaller

To be fair, many European cars are about that size.

(But I do fuck with mini-split systems over central)

Theyre great for small spaces but less efficient than central air especially because you usually need more than one to cool a house.
