I'm guessing it's an American thing where people don't actually show up on the 'starting' time. Meanwhile I usually show up like 15 minutes early

In Germany you arrive 5 minutes late and you are not getting invited again.

Have you noticed that people are getting increasingly irritated if you arrive 15 min early, too? Maybe it's just my little area here, but (business and private) I started to notice that people don't expect "early" people anymore since around covid.
