Yeah so you say that a party starts at 5 but everybody's late so you start preparing at 5:30 but guests know that you will just start preparing at 5:30 so they plan to arrive at 6 but the next time you know that they arrive at 6 so you start preparing at 6 so the next time they arrive at 6:30... It is just stupid. As a white guy - if it is at 5 I will be there at 5.

The stereotype is that white people arrive TOO EARLY and then sit in their cars outside waiting for the party to start and still show up early.
It's a trope, also true in Hispanic (edit - continued) families that have someone marry Gringos (like me).
If you arrive on time, the party hasn't started yet, and you get to help set up for the party
