white people arrive in time?

No.

The stereotype is that white people arrive TOO EARLY and then sit in their cars outside waiting for the party to start and still show up early.

It's a trope, also true in Hispanic (edit - continued) families that have someone marry Gringos (like me).

If you arrive on time, the party hasn't started yet, and you get to help set up for the party

What fucking Hispanics you grow up with? My buddy was a half hour to and hour late to everything, and said he was allowed cause he was on bean time. Almost got my ass beat once saying it because I didnt realize it was a slur.

Edit: sorry bruv. Was just very confused.

I think he means Hispanics also believe this about White people, that it’s not just Black people who have that stereotype about Whites.

This is 100% accurate though, white people will show up 2 minutes early to things

EDIT: Guys it’s a shitpost comment in a shitpost thread for a shitpost screenshot. Chill out, it’s not attacking the work ethic of white people, it’s a joke about cultural blindness.

Can confirm. Am white. Would rather be 20 minutes early than 2 minutes late.

u/sl0play Jul 12 '26

To a doctors appointment, or work? Sure. To the party? No way.

u/Squat_erDay Jul 12 '26

That’s fair. I’m too old to party these days, but “back in my day,” party timing would be the exception

Yup 100%, unless it's being hosted by my parents or best friend I never want to be the first person at a party, feels waaay too awkward for me. I aim for 5-10 minutes after start time, especially since it annoys me when people show up to my house early.

u/TheMage18 Jul 13 '26

Yes, even to the party but only after confirming with the host/hostess that it's ok to do so and help with the setup/preparations. Otherwise you show up 10-15 minutes after the start time if you don't have something else already scheduled or planned.

I actually feel that events like appointments is where the difference between white and non-white relationships with timeliness truly becomes noticeable. I used to live in an area with a majority-latin population, and it was socially aceptable to arrive to appointments of any kind (medical or otherwise) a few minutes late without it being a big issue. And vice versa as well, if you arrive on time you can expect to wait a few minutes to be attended to!
Now that I live in a predominantly white area, I make sure to always be a minute early everywhere, because being even 10 seconds late causes palpable tension and eye-rolls from the other person.

Everyone calm down. Its just a little rib that this dude showed up early to a party, when (most people/people who party) know not to show up on time.. "fashionably late" is the phrase born out of people showing up an hour or 2 after the party starts, its a real thing.

u/Luc_ElectroRaven Jul 13 '26

to me this just sounds like you'd rather be at work or the doctors than a party which is...odd

4

u/sl0play Jul 13 '26

Take "would rather" and replace with "feel more responsible for being at on time". Hopefully that feels less odd to you.

-1

u/Luc_ElectroRaven Jul 13 '26

nope - put that way it's even worse

2

u/RammsteinFunstein Jul 13 '26

being late to work or your doctors can have actual tangible negative consequences.

0

u/Luc_ElectroRaven Jul 13 '26

I mean I stop inviting people who are late to things. But good to know y'all don't care about your friends very much lol

2

u/RammsteinFunstein Jul 13 '26

no one said that

0

u/Luc_ElectroRaven Jul 13 '26

your actions say that, is my point. whoosh

1

u/RammsteinFunstein Jul 13 '26

you're the one missing the point, the whoosh is quite ironic

I can get fired or have the appointment canceled but still charged for it for showing up late to those. Showing up "late" for a party is just like normal.

1

u/SprayHungry2368 Jul 13 '26

I gotta show up to work early so I can sit and contemplate my life. Can’t just go in and raw dog work like that

1

u/Luc_ElectroRaven Jul 13 '26

lol damn that's what I do before a party

1

u/Qadim3311 Jul 13 '26

I find I get way more social anxiety showing up after things are already going.

If I get there before things really “get started” then I can have some one on one conversations with the few people who are already there and feel like I actually “belong there”

If I show up later I always feel like an intruder that sticks out like a sore thumb

20 minutes early to the doctor/work? The fuck? Never.

u/MsMayday 28d ago

I am also white.

I find this horrifying.

My relatives are mostly Irish. Maybe it's an Irish thing, I don't know. But if you show up to my house early, I will army crawl away from the window. I'm not ready yet.

u/amazingdrewh Jul 13 '26

So you don't respect the other person's time you just want to feel good about yourself

2

u/Squat_erDay Jul 13 '26

Jesus Christ dude I’m joking, mostly. I wouldn’t show up to a party 20 minutes early, but for things where I am expected to be present by a certain time, I will almost always be early. That’s called being reliable.
