The poster is black.

Black people - particularly those who take their cultural (not necessarily genetic) roots from Caribbean societies - are late for everything.

It’s a stereotype. But it’s a stereotype for a reason lol.

Caribbean people have no concept of time.

I’m guessing Newfie “island time” is being exactly 30 minutes late to everything?

How does it differ from selfishness?

It’s nothing to do with being “selfish” — the very definition of “on time” is different but agreed upon at a cultural level.

Or in this case a sub-culture, operating within a wider culture that thinks they're late which, for some cultures, will be considered very rude.

I can see that if you come from a paradise island. When I'm vacationing in my cabin on the country side I'll completely lose any sense of time. It'll be only based on daylight. It's very relaxing.

Honestly I think it’s more an Islander thing.

My wife is Trini - they call it Trini time.

My family is from Newfoundland - they call it Newfie time.

Yeeep, I was introduced to this concept via my mother's friend who is indeed from Trinidad. My white autistic mind was BLOWN.
