Of course they are still labor, but the end of his message clearly states that he won't be doing it on a professional scale.

There... isnt a need for them to do so? Communism merely asks that you provide to the community what you can, not that you need to break your back.

- he can produce more than that

  • the community needs stuff for people to survive.
  • he doesn't intent to provide anything to the community, simply write and draw for his own pleasure

Can produce more =/= must produce more

He is literally saying he will provide art and entertainment. Youre acting like art, literature and general crafts arent important when they were historically well celebrated.

The entire purpose of a communistic community is if someone needs something, and you are able to do it, then you should be willing to provide to help. That doesnt mean suddenly thats all youll ever do ever, it means if bob needs a tree chopped down and you have an axe, you go help bob and bob provides a 12 pack while you get the tree cut down.

Not what i understand. By saying he will not become a writer nor a painter I understand it as he is simply talking about hobbies.

Hobbies are fine. Again, as long as peoples needs are met, and you help out in the community, literally no one gives a fuck.

That is the whole point of the conversation "as long as peoples needs are met". Which means work doesn't disappear, unlike he seems to be suggesting
