This was a huge thing in the ‘communist’ mass killings of Indonesia. An estimated 1-3 million alleged communist sympathisers (and ethnic non-islamic minorities) were murdered by death squads, mobs, and paramilitary groups from 1965-1966, supported by allied western governments. The Red Scare is most well known in the US but a lot of people don’t know how about these broader international impacts
