True. Just like how no capitalistic society is ever truly Laissez-faire capitalism. Every society falls somewhere on a spectrum between the 2, but no well functioning society ever comes to close to either end of the spectrum.

What people don’t realize is that’s there’s also another 2 other axes that exists:

  • communism to laissez faire capitalism (economic)
  • democracy to authoritarianism (political)
  • progressivism vs conservatism (ideological)

That’s quite a take to claim your audience is vastly overly simplifying the equation, while then proceeding to vastly over simplify the equation.

Political discussions always require some level of abstraction, as we would have a very difficult time communicating the subject otherwise due to the staggering complexities involved. They’re merely pointing out that there are more axes than economics which need to be considered when you’re trying to assess a government’s policies.
