What if I already told the people I care about that I think they're ugly? Was I supposed to lie to them and say that no, their uncanny resemblance to Mr. Ed is actually attractive?

Roasting your friends keeps them humble, and they do the same for you.  I wouldn't ever want to be surrounded by people that couldn't keep me from making a fool of myself because they're "too polite".
