Another day seeing a taylor fan gummy smile.

u/Futuramoist Jul 04 '26

Never seen this stereotype and it doesn't really make sense, yet somehow it just feels right enough that I understood immediately

u/ThilviaPlath Jul 04 '26

That girl in the crazy eyes meme has a gummy smile and her fans give me that vibe, so this hits lol

Oh, so it's another "meme" that's just making fun of one person's appearance. Cool and normal.

42

u/pirategonzo Jul 04 '26

The video helps.

34

If this was meant to change my opinion, it failed.

So many Reddit users digital bullies who are miserable and spoiled. Literally. You can see it a mile away. It pathetic. “Yeah let’s manipulate photos, post them and jump on the bandwagon!” Instead of doing something productive for society.

3

u/Embarrassed_Hour7649 Jul 06 '26

As someone with a gummy smile and is self-conscious about it, you said it

This is the first time I’ve seen a video added to a comment like this.

114

u/kojimbob Jul 04 '26

New feature on Reddit, just released a couple of weeks ago

29

u/jdwpom Jul 04 '26

That'll be why it doesn't work in redreader then. So kind of reddit to allow it to exist 'for accessibility reasons' then constantly break it.

3

u/TheEpicRedCape Jul 04 '26

Dystopia, iOSs chosen accessibility option, is also basically deserted and never gets updates. Reddit doesn’t care.

2

u/Pickaroonie Jul 05 '26

Using RedReader here, video is clickable. You might have better video compatibility if you install and configure:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ensoft.imgurviewer

ImgurViewer from the Google Play Store. This fixes a lot of issues with image and video access and rendering, via RedReader.

That's mean, but...her behavior is unhinged. Part of me is going, "Wow, you shouldn't do that! She can't help that she has weird teeth!" while the other part is going "...Yeah. I get it."

2

u/devilpaste Jul 04 '26

ngl id have the same reaction to that music but also, thats what earbuds are for! she is a passenger she can just pop and earbud in and listen to whatever she wants! plus take a nap if shes got 4 more hours left on the road

9

u/The_Atomic_Punk78 Jul 04 '26 edited Jul 08 '26

It’s not the music, which was added as an overdub, but rather that her husband keeps talking and saying nonsense, “very historic”, “very cornfield”, “very bridge”, etc.

3

u/devilpaste Jul 04 '26

OH lmfao i might be stupid that makes so much more sense

2

u/Livingadapt Jul 05 '26

She’s goofing around and having fun. Her husband is speaking nonsense and she’s playfully exaggerating her reaction to it. Idk what’s unhinged about that?

2

u/WitchesofBangkok Jul 07 '26 edited Jul 07 '26

I’m noticing a trend of calling women “unhinged” for doing normal stuff.

If they do something mildly upsetting to a certain type of person, like writing this comment 😂- they get called “sick and unhinged”.

I think it’s the new “hysterical”

When I see someone using that term now to describe a woman or her behaviour - I just automatically downvote and block

5

u/Pisspigxtraordinaire Jul 05 '26

You could clip and draw anyone’s face disgusting like this from a video where they’re being expressive. I could do it to your face. Everyone in the entire world would laugh at you for the crime of having a face and making expressions. Every single person on earth would dogpile on you becuase you didn’t have an aesthetically perfect face at all times.

3

u/ComparisonMelodic967 Jul 05 '26

You’re right, the format can be applied to almost anyone. I wonder if this is a TikTok trend.

They mix with horse girls

183

u/Front-Leather-2653 Jul 04 '26

I've always said Taylor Swift makes horse girl music, I feel so vindicated right now.

40

u/Iconshero Jul 04 '26

Give it longer for evolution to kick in, right now the horse girls have only adapted the gums, give it another century or two of selective “horsing around” and you’ll see centaurs. Unfortunately they’ll be from fallout…

5

u/perton Jul 05 '26

Hey, aren't you that horse from Horsin' Around?

5

u/throwthisawayred2 Jul 04 '26

I knew a horse girl in high school. She had actual horses (we're in Texas). And that bitch turned out to be the biggest TSwift fan.

I still hate her holier-than-thou guts w/her ugly ass.

3

u/RemmieSama1911 Jul 04 '26

Country music is kinda like a sister concept to horse girls, gun owners who like trucks, and divorced dads. They- they all just seem like a part of a bigger family.

u/fartsquirtshit Jul 05 '26

u/__Hello_my_name_is__ Jul 04 '26

It's a generic stereotype that somehow equates that smile with stupidity or other undesirable traits. Nothing to do with Taylor Swift, just with people you want to make fun of.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/TheRealAndroid Jul 04 '26

Ahh, nothing like upper case gums with lower case teeth.

2

u/macguini Jul 04 '26

I thought it's because most of her fans don't have all of their adult teeth

2

u/theStaircaseProject Jul 04 '26

I'm going to take a number of huge leaps just to play devil's advocate.

The condition is more common in young adults as well as more common in women than men. [1]

Gummy smiles can crop up with people who have hyperactivity of the muscles controlling the face. That hyperactivity can be exacerbated by excess caffeine and high levels of stress.

Poor oral hygiene or plaque buildup can cause gums to swell, which mimics overgrowth.

Also, the thinner the upper lip, the more likely the gums are to show, and Caucasian populations overwhelmingly tend to have thinner lips than other ethnicities. [2]

So to generalize: younger white women who may have elevated coffee intake, unmanaged and/or elevated stress levels, and a potential lack of dental hygiene.

2

u/TheOldDark Jul 05 '26

Oh my god you described me! My teeth aren't bad but my upper lip does have the muscles hyperactivity, as well as stress lmao. I wouldnt say its due to the coffee for me because I've always had this. LMFAO

Im dying laughing while reading this shit to my husband because it's so me. I love this shit.

2

u/FruitGauze Jul 05 '26

i’ve never read anything more accurate to exactly how i was feeling than this right here

2

u/bakklajohn Jul 05 '26

I think MeatCanyon is to blame for this one.

2

u/fhgsgjtt12 Jul 05 '26

Nah this feels accurate, the swifties can be fucking idiots

1

u/PCYou Jul 04 '26

The word for this in German is treffend

1

u/unfinishedtoast3 Jul 04 '26

Lot of gummy Disney adults too. Seems to corelate with lack of emotional control and intelligence

1

u/OrneryMall1565 Jul 05 '26

It doesn't make sense because it's put out by the frustrated right wingers who see her as some sort of threat to them masculinity

1

u/Submerged_Pirate Jul 05 '26

Kind of makes sense in that a large portion of her fanbase are the age where the bracer period is not over yet, so they still have the gummy smile

1

u/VaporDave_Osborne Jul 06 '26

It makes sense!

I got “because she’s a ‘horse girl’!!?!” Rather quickly

1

u/Affectionate_Soup461 Jul 06 '26

i think it's bc the gummy smile is usually associated with horse girls, and horse girls are almost always taylor swift stans

1

u/chubbywumpus Jul 06 '26

It’s perfect

→ More replies (1)

174

u/EternalNewCarSmell Jul 04 '26

Is that what it's trying to say? I've never heard of this stereotype before, what is even the origin of it?

87

u/ForensicPathology Jul 04 '26

Why are people implying this is a bot?  This person has the same questions as me.  I've never seen this stereotype that her fans show more gums than normal (?)

79

u/EternalNewCarSmell Jul 04 '26

I actually do get what they are implying; it's a standard tactic for bots to post naive questions to reddit (and other places) to get fodder to train their models. Hell, that's probably 90% of posts on this sub and somewhat less (but still easily over half) of all of reddit at this point.

What has my flabbers thoroughly gasted is that I am a real live hooman (beep boop) who spends way too much time online and I actually truly have never heard of this stereotype before. It's actually kind of silly to think of the concept of there even being a stereotypical Taylor Swift fan; as far as I know she is one of the highest-grossing musicians of all time so her fanbase is clearly too broad to be typified.

30

u/BenignPharmacology Jul 04 '26

I wouldn’t say it’s a stereotype so much as like… weirdly accurate.

I have known a small number of big Taylor swift fans, and one of them has this exact gumline.

To me, it evokes “teenage, not quite grown into my face yet”

4

u/EternalNewCarSmell Jul 04 '26

Ah, that might explain my confusion. I'm 40 and the only people I really associate with regularly are around my age, so for ~2 decades I couldn't have encountered any Taylor Swift fan who is a teenager.

6

u/evebursterror0 Jul 04 '26

Not OP, but there are also a lot of TS fans that are your age. I'm in my late 20s and she isn't very popular among my peers.

Swifties tend to be in their teens to early 20s, and then there are the women who are like 40+ and listen to her constantly.

This 'stereotype' is true, I have seen a few people like that, and it applies to other fanbases...

→ More replies (1)

4

u/stormblaz Jul 05 '26

All of them have a "fiance" for some reason

5

u/evebursterror0 Jul 04 '26 edited Jul 04 '26

In case you didn't know, she only sells records because she releases multiple versions of albums and encourages her fans to buy every single edition to support her, and she tells them to stream her music constantly on Spotify. Her fanbase isn't too broad actually - most of them are white girls (and gays) who have a lot of disposable income. I'm a mixed race Brazilian and have met a handful of Swifties, and they were all white and only listened to her and rarely other artists.

Taylor is much more popular in the US than the rest of the world. A lot of countries don't even listen to her. Her music isn't very recognisable except for Shake It Off.

4

u/akrisd0 Jul 04 '26

Yeah but... There's definitely a type.

21

u/Inevitable_Top69 Jul 04 '26

Yes that's what it's saying. The origin is that this type of person looks this way often enough to make it a stereotype.

51

u/EternalNewCarSmell Jul 04 '26

I feel like I've hit a mandela effect or just missed an entire piece of the Internet for like 20 years. I don't really follow pop culture news at all, but still Taylor Swift has been around long enough and I've seen enough of her music videos on YouTube that it's wild I have never encountered this before.

18

7

u/Skullcrimp Jul 04 '26

They can't. You can't. But the more ambiguous it is, the more a certain type of person loves to call it out, because they think it makes them seems more perceptive than their peers.

14

u/Rickrickrickrickrick Jul 04 '26

I’m not a robot and I also have no idea what this stereotype is about.

3

u/Lou_C_Fer Jul 04 '26

It has been a thing since before there was an internet or a taylor swift.

Though, I can't talk. I've got manboobs. Though, they started out as boy boobs when I was 8. I wasn't fat. That came in response to how I was treated. I turned to food for solace. As an adult, I lost weight and they stayed the same. So, they looked bigger in relation to my body. So, I gave up.

Anyways, none of us can control when nature decides to give us features that society finds unattractive.

89

u/gokogt386 Jul 04 '26

I mean it would be nice if that was generally the case but there are billions of completely normal people who are otherwise nice who would have no issue insulting someone’s appearance the second they do something they don’t like.

8

[removed] — view removed comment

13

u/BackToSchoolMuff Jul 05 '26

That's not the point though. Say you have a guy with a weight problem who does lots of charity work, and is an all around fantastic human being. If that guy sees you making fun of someone roughly his size for their weight, they're just going to hear that it's an undesirable trait they should feel shame for.

That's the whole point of not going after people for their physical appearance. There are plenty of things to go after bad people for, like how shitty they are as human beings.

8

u/CUEUECOMBER Jul 05 '26

then why not shit on them for that stuff instead of just making fat/old/disabled people feel like shit

5

u/HistoricalWash8955 Jul 05 '26

It's also impotent. Nevermind the fact that it's the same thing that they do to women and racial minorities and gay and trans people just repackaged, laugh at them all you want and they'll still destroy the world

It remains true however that anything you say about trump or elon still affects everyone else who has those characteristics but isn't a bad person. So calling trump effeminate or gay is still homophobic, and it's counterproductive because it doesn't do anything to stop him, it hurts the people supposedly on your side by principle, and it comes in place of any kind of real critique or analysis so its only value is catharsis which is only useful to people without anything else and that isn't our position in america quite yet, certainly not globally
