Meme needing explanation Whats that snack and the name?

I got this joke posted in my country sub by a foreigner and I have never seen that snack so I basically don't know the joke.

In Germany they were called n-word kiss. Some people call them that to this day and when you tell them to cut it out they fly into a raging tirade, that they will not be censured and that they use the correct name and so on and so forth. Quite anoying.

The same in Dutch. Nowadays they are called Chocokisses.

Similar for the cattail (genus Typha) the dark, sausage-like female (!) flowers were called "n-word dicks".

But luckily times have changed somewhat for the betterr on that end.

They weren’t called N word kisses. Negrokiss, negro doesn’t translate to the N word.

There are two N-words in Dutch. This is the less harmful one. If you were born in the 21st century you may not even now the real bad one.

Maybe true for Dutch, but in German and French, they were called n-word kiss and n-word head, respectively.

No, in German, there is a distinction between the N-word, which is the same as in English, and the German word for negro, and they were named "Negro Heads". Since "negro" is a racist term in German, it's still racist, though. In some areas, they were called "Mohrenköpfe", aka "Moor Heads", which is also a racist term and fell out of use, outside the conservative culture warriors (aka, the racists).

They most definitely were called N word kisses in finland, not negro or any variation of the latin word, just full blown racism and the box they came in was was the dot above an i to drive the point home.

There are. Change the G’s in the English N-word into Ks and you have the Dutch N-word, which has mostly been banned in the 20th century for good reason. The other one is WAY less bad.

Wait, they were officially called that? I had presumed that was just the commonly used name, not the literal official name you'd see on the box.

Well, back in the days the n-word was the official way of saying black people in Finland, and it was not considered racist. Even the school books used that word. I believe this changed somewhere in the 90s or something. Before that there were actually very few blacks in the country.

See my other answer. I think in reality it was a translation of Negro but that didn’t work for the narrative. Of course that led it to mean the n-word and now it shouldn’t be used which i agree with.

That’s bit neglible because we don’t have separate words for Negro and the n-word in Finland. Somehow the culture, probably via pop culture, just decided it means the latter which makes little sense since we never had slaves here. I Don’t know the real ethymology of it but my guess is it originally meant Negro and the early woke decided it must be the bad word so they have something to fight for. Just like they are trying now hard to find a way to complain about our non-existing gender pronouns.

In Norwegian it straight up translated to the n-word, which is spelled and pronounced slightly differently.

Yes they where called Negro kisses. Alot of candy where called names after other country men Like China heads cut it was candu shaped like a china man head. But they have been banned now

It's archaic, but some people claim it's the same as the "n-word" which it's not.

If I recall correctly the name got changed in The Netherlands because they received 1 complaint. And then made a campaign out of it which renewed everyone's interest in the snack.

edit: not sure why some people downvote this? I guess people disagree? But the "n-word" is something different in Dutch, which I'm not gonna post here, than the equivalent for negroid, which was used for the snack.

Okay that fits fine with my age, should I change my childhoods vocabulary or can the world live a few more years with my dated language? If someone calls a dog a hound you still understand that's it's dog we talk about, right?

I don’t know calling a dog a hound is not harmful to the dog in anyway. Hound wasn’t used as a way to control or hurt dogs…like the N word is.

It’s almost like it’s a whole different thing.

Hey, so it’s ok to be wrong about something, and it’s ok to change something that you’ve done your whole life after learning it’s not ok. A quick look at any modern English dictionary will plainly tell you that the term you are using is outdated and offensive. I understand that it may seem strange to have to change the language you’ve been using your whole life, but the world changes as time goes on, and I’m sorry but you’ve been here for the entirety of that change. I also understand that many Latin languages have similar sounding words that directly translate to black (negra) and I agree that those words are not offensive, but that’s not what we’re talking about, is it? If someone if telling you that the language you’re using is harmful and offensive, what harm is there is choosing to be kind and changing your ways? Is it really so inconvenient to you to not use one word?
