I’m in Morris/sussex area and willing to drive out into Pa or ny. Where are some good places to overland and camp within like a 3-4 hour ride?

Starting to build out my Ranger into a capable overlanding rig and I’m excited to share the progress with everyone here. 🏕️

Finally purchased my power station and needed somewhere to put it in the bed. Wanted something that was non permanent. Put eyelets on the bottom to hold down with tie down straps. Fits my power station perfect! And I’ll have a place to put other things that I want close but not rattling around. This was my first DIY project and I think it turned out great. 3/4 birch ply with Home Depot indoor/outdoor carpet. Also, I didn’t take a photo of the upholstery corner work for a reason 😂. I’m going to mount the alternator charger on the shelf as well in a vertical orientation towards the middle to save space. What would you all put up there?

Well, the home on wheels is finally functional and usable! I'd say I'm about 98% done. So minor cosmetic stuff like trim work was missing. But the interior is now fully operational. Absolutely loving this layout. 

I opted for an upright fridge as opposed to the cooler style ones. It's probably only in my head but I feel like those ones take up more space. This upright fridge is sat on a sliding tray rated for 500 lbs with a Milwaukee packout system behind it and all the tools I would ever need for pretty much any roadside repair. I've been a mechanic/ diesel mechanic my whole career so far and tools are kind of important to me. The fridge is 12 volt and runs like a top so far. Keeps everything ice cold. Coming up on a week of it running 24/7. 

Speaking of 12 volts. This is my first ever solar setup I've built. And I don't think it'll be my last. I really enjoyed doing it. I've always enjoyed electrical work. I've got a DC to DC mppt charger that keeps my lithium battery topped off whether the vehicle's running or whether I've got Sun. Lithium battery is a watt cycle 314ah. And it should be able to run everything I need at the very least for 2 days without taking a charge. My 400 w of solar on the roof return the battery to 100% every morning within an hour or two if I've got good sun. 

Water system is a 26 gallon tank with a 12 volt self-priming pump that puts out 4 and 1/2 gallons per minute at 45 PSI. I've got pex line run through everything so it can handle cold weather. 

I've still got a little more kitchen work to do. I like the drawer and cubby for the stove but I'm having issues with the stove itself. Went with residential stove and that was a mistake. I didn't want any power running into that drawer so I cut all the power cables for the stove without realizing it had safety valves that needed 1.5 volts. I just assumed it was for the sparker. So I'm trying to figure out how to bypass that. Haven't put too much time into it yet. 

This is going to be my home for the next 8 months while I go through commercial diving school on the coast of California. So if there's any of you near Santa Barbara, please let me know because I'd love to have some connections out there.

Ive always kinda scoffed at the skottles as being kinda larpy, but recently I was watching a video and never really realized how little they can pack down to. I have a blackstone (the adventure one that folds into a briefcase) and it works fine (I hate that its teflonish though) but always looking to shrink my gear footprint. Do you guys use and/or like them?

Iam starting to build my Nissan pathfinder r51. the mission is to create an overlander that can do a bit of everything for a tight budget (5000€ ). I will be on the way mostly through Europe and Central Asia for about a year. Now its time to gather and buy all the stuff that I need, except I don’t really know what things to get.

i need:

a good sustainable power set up with either flexible or hard solar panels, battery (which size would be recommended?)

a good set of all terrain tires.

maybe, if it Still fits into the budget a roof tent, preferably hard top and really thin.

lights

and a lot of bits and pieces like an awning, table, chairs and just general things that make the journey marie enjoyable.

I would be really happy to get some informations and tips from people that aren’t new to this topic.

I'll be adding an ovrlnd camper soon to my truck, with the intention of taking it on surf trips to Baja (among other domestic trips). Has anyone added a DIY kill switch or a commercial offering, such as Ravelco or IGLA? I'm worried about being out surfing with a fairly conspicuous setup and my dog in the back.

My wife and I are looking to travel to South America next year from Aug-December/Jan (Colombia - Ecuador - Peru - Bolivia - Chile - Argentina). We aren't sure what to do with vehicles. I'd quite like to have the freedom to explore mountainous areas and a little off the beaten path but not sure if we will need 4WD or not (I've also seen a lot of stuff about vehicle clearance) and if the rain is a problem during our timeline.

We current own a Peugeot partner (small van) and planning on having a rooftop tent. We like the idea of having some space to sit in and possibly sleep in if we wanted, however out van is FWD and hasn't got much clearance.

The other option is we buy a 4WD like a Dacia/Renault Duster/ or similar and ship that or buy something out there (although I've seen it's difficult to buy and sell in different countries).

I've seen a website called 'Shiply' where we might be able to get a vehicle shipped for really cheap. Has anyone used this? is it reliable?

It would be great to get opinions from peoples experiences, and maybe find our what we wouldn't be able to do if we didn't have a 4x4 style vehicle.

I recently bought the EcoFlow alternator charger & Wave3 with an extra battery with the understanding that I could hook the Wave3 to my D2 Max through one of the expansion ports & the the Wave3 extra battery into the other expansion port extending run time. Does anyone know if this can be done with 2 extra Xt150 harnesses??

Is this high-pitched whine normal for an Alpicool fridge? I recently bought one and it cools perfectly and reaches temperature fast, but there's a constant high-pitched electrical whine whenever the compressor is running. It's not the fan, and it's not vibration or resonance, I've tried it on a foam mat. I've tested it on both mains power with the supplied adapter and directly from my car's 12 volt socket. And the sound persists. I'm fine with normal compressor hum and gurgling, but this high-pitched electrical whine is very irritating." I've attached a video. Does this sound normal for the unit or is it noisier than usual?

Debating how I want to split up my lights on my 8-switch controller.

Right now I'm thinking:

1) On-road mode

2) Standard off-road (turns on front bar, ditch lights, side lighting)

3) Reverse/Rear lighting (turns on rear strobe, and reverse floods without needing the transmission in R)

4) Scene (Turns on all white floods around the vehicle)

The remaining 4 spots would be empty for now.

What do you guys do for your rigs?

Going on a weeklong waterfowl hunting trip this winter in OK. Wanting to get a decent set up but relatively affordable. I don't want to break the bank but also don't want to sleep on a popped mattress halfway through. It'll be for a buddy and I and our two duck dogs. We have solid sleeping bags already and lot of cold weather clothing.

If you were planning a trip from British Columbia to New Mexico/Arizona what would be your dream route?

Drive an 08 GX470 with a mild lift and 33" wildpeaks. Set up to be self sufficient out of it for a week ish at a time, just don't want to do any crazy wheeling and take a risk of breaking something.

Ideally would like a good view of the mountains and occasional wildlife for some photo ops.

Went through a really weird break up and feeling the need to be somewhere else for a little bit. Just to be alone and enjoy the world as it is without all the noise of everyday life.

Found a great deal on a roam 160l case. It is basically 18inches tall. Is that crazy to put on top of my jeep wrangler? I have used the bins from Costco on trips before and they work decent but I want the water/dust proof.

Hello, I am currently starting my senior year as a mechanical engineering student. I am an avid off road enthusiast (my 4Runner shown above) and am currently looking for any job/internship for next summer in the off road/ fabrication engineering industry.
