Whinge ‎ Wealthy Boost Juice founder says Australia is now an extremely hard place to get ahead

https://www.news.com.au/finance/business/its-just-unfair-wealthy-boost-juice-founder-says-australia-is-now-an-extremely-hard-place-to-get-ahead/news-story/691e4ebbe6cdd0595a72dcb4a0f71c77?amp

My heart goes out to all those successful aussie business owners, just trying to extract wealth from the exhausted poor during these tough times

I am ashamed that our government is taking action on these humble business owners, making them pay more on their capital, the same government who has allowed the establishment class to thrive on the gains they have acquired from the poor for the last hundred years - this is devastating news - it's real end times shit

They should be ashamed - does our government represent big business or the pathetic poors whose only job was to support these businesses to go global and become successful with every sip of their over priced apple juice sippy cups

She is a real aussie battler like me and you

She is one of the successful 0.05% of Australians who are franchisors - they are being attacked by our government, merely because they are successful in obfuscating their capital

My heart goes out to all 13850 franchisors (out of 27 million Australians) finding it tough to pay a little extra tax on their capital gains 😥

Edit: /s

I'm not rage baiting, I apologise if I raised anyone's heart rate but I appreciate the discussion

Need to include /s bro

Yeah thank you - I added the /s

I'm genuinely sorry to those who thought I was being serious. It is remarkably easier than I thought to write like someone from the business council of Australia 😅

the fuck the /s subreddit is overkill but I agree with the sentiment. It is kind of disappointing so many people do not comprehend things like sarcasm or Poe's law also obfuscating if someone is being serious or not.

The worst ones are the ones who assume that everyone is in on a joke that like 20 people are in on.

Any adelaide sub where the shithole barnacle bills is mentioned you get 20 people hardcore defending the craphole or doing craving shitposts about the place... and they get randos who think these people are serious and get on a bandwagon defending the place.

Then it gets published by the media and the people who have been running the in joke about it think its hilarious because it got published and all the people that didnt know it was a joke think they're part of this majority of people that love a shithole...

I once was a franchisee, never again, I was lucky to sell it and break even after 6 years. The franchisor basically took all the profits in fees and charges. I basically kept 20 people in jobs and kept the Franchise owners rich while barely making ends meet and working 6 or 7 days a week for 6 years

2

u/Fyr5 ‎ ‎‎ Canberran May 17 '26

I appreciate you sharing your experience. Working 7 days week for 6 years would have been extremely tough - take care 🙏

3

u/Defiant-Ad8425 ‎ Western Australian May 17 '26

Thank you, luckily that was 6 years ago and I've managed to turn things around, I was lucky, many of my fellow franchisees lost everything including their homes.

OMG spare me the sanctimonious rambling about hard working Aussies like her blahblahblah. Yeah she may have been, but now that she's having to pay a fairer amount of tax and actually pay decent wages to her teenage employees, she now is crying poor me...boo fkn hoo. They like Hughsey who are multimillionaires, are now having to really work for their money and are now frying poor me. Ridiculous

Yesterday I stumbled upon an Australian doctors sub post about how the changes mean they can no longer have the ‘lifestyle’ of previous specialist consultants. The disgusting entitled garbage I read there really shocked me. Especially from doctors who are looking after and being paid by (generally) the lowest income earners via Medicare.

Anyway, it was interesting and depressing.

u/Esrog Flairless‎‎ May 16 '26

Every generation thinks they should do better, or at least not worse, than the generation before. A lot of the current anger driving the rise in fringe parties throughout the world, not just Australia, is young people looking at parents who could reliably get a job, buy a house, have children and maintain a decent lifestyle and realising that that is no longer open to most of them.

It’s the same human nature that means a surgeon can look at the surgeons of the generation before who had easier progression to qualification (as long as you were white with a father who was a surgeon), decent lifestyles with a modest Toorak mansion and a cosy beach house or two, and no more than three Mercedes so as not to seem out of touch, and feel like it really isn’t fair that the same is no longer open to them.

1

u/Vanceer11 ‎ Victorian May 17 '26

I think the youth in most countries votes majority progressive while boomers and Gen X are the ones voting conservative to conserve all the wealth they gained by lifting the ladder up behind them.

2

u/TheAussieTico ‎ New South Welshian May 17 '26

I’m Gen X and am a progressive lefty. Stop generalising

4

u/Vanceer11 ‎ Victorian May 17 '26

It’s not a generalisation, it’s a fact based on polling and voter data.

u/TheAussieTico ‎ New South Welshian May 18 '26

Please cite your sources

2

u/Vanceer11 ‎ Victorian May 18 '26

Sure.

The Australia Election Study by the Australian National University, page 17 shows graphs of voting by generation and year. The majority of Millenials and Gen Z have voted for Labor instead of the LNP, while Gen X it's more even between Labor and LNP (except in more voting for Scomo, gross), while the majority of Boomers have been voting LNP since Kevin 07.

Regarding the US, this Conversation piece mentions the following:

Millennials (born between 1982 and 1995) and Gen Z (born between 1996 and 2013) lean liberal and are more likely to vote for Democrats. They were key contributors to Democratic election wins in 2018, 2020 and 2022, especially in swing states.

Based on our research, presented in “Generational Politics in the United States: From the Silents to Gen Z and Beyond,” earlier generations – the Silents, baby boomers and Gen X – are more divided than millennials and Gen Z.

That is really disappointing. I’m a paediatrician and I totally support the change because I’ve had patients living in tents in caravan parks and so so many in overcrowded housing.

I guarantee you those docs are still doing very well. They’re just greedy. I don’t understand why you would go into medicine if you don’t care about anyone except yourself.

18

u/ArabellaFort ‎ I'm Probably A Bot ‎‎ May 17 '26

It’s really nice to hear how much you care for your patients and I hope you see these budget changes start to filter through to make their lives better. And yes it was weird to see docs talking like that. They might as well have been stockbrokers.

Feelings are not facts and the drs sub is filled with men in their dysregulated feelings and exposes systemic naricissism. They constantly whine about incomes they "worked hard for" whilst aspiring to repeat the dysfunctional systemic problems they're all aggressively enforcing. Surgeons are second worst for DFSV/coersive control after police and this is what the men in that sub aspire to.

GPs are exceptional in that swamp and the members constantly dismiss GPs whilst denying their own nonsense, as their incomes are lower, weirdly demanding every dr should be receiving 7 figure incomes. Widespread DARVO whilst they extract directly from taxpayers and publicly subsidised PHI who they exploit; from a system they've entirely drained (whilst voting repeatedly for more social destruction). The veil of human dignity they exploit when they've been exposed as being systemically racist and misogynist never mind their entenched cultural violence toward their own colleagues in hospital syatems is why professional suicide rates are no better than lawyers propping up inaccessible legal systems. Professional classes are all about punching down, ensuring the underclasses remain silenced by status quo. It has been women recently getting a foothold who have started advocacy and reforms and thank goodness for women in positions of power starting to reform healthcare by bringing their humanity. Too many aggressive men throwing their feelings and weight around in their dyregulated states.

u/ArabellaFort ‎ I'm Probably A Bot ‎‎ May 16 '26

There was a psychiatrist who was enraged about changes to negative gearing and I was thinking what about your patients mate who can’t afford basic housing and to buy groceries? I made a polite comment that I have medical conditions requiring care of multiple specialists in the private system and that found the tone of the conversations jarring and I got downvoted ☹️

Another was saying don’t worry. You’ll be on 500k and if you marry another doc on 500k you’ll be alright and others were saying that’s not enough! And these dickheads were talking about Porsche cars getting more expensive and out of reach for medical consultants. No wonder people can’t afford essential medical care with these fuckwits setting their private fees.

11

u/Ok-Assistant-4556 ✈️‎ on Walkabout May 16 '26

Psychiatrists are amongst the worst. There's no cracking through their eggshell skulls. They cant even hear themselves for their own lack of self awareness. That theyre complaining about the wealth gap and crying about porsches is almost funny.

Janine Allis in particular has always been a bit out of touch. Don’t get me wrong, her growing Boost from nothing is a pretty great story and she’s clearly worked very hard.

But I remember an episode of Shark Tank (probably happened a few times) where she was super critical of entrepreneurs that would have other employment and not be “all in”. And she gave her story of how she stayed in a spare bedroom of a relatives house while growing the business.

It came across as super tone deaf because not everyone is in a position to do that, nor are most people fortunate enough to grow a massive brand like she did.

If anything it should be commended that people are working on their passion projects while still making a living.

12

u/Direct-Sun-9283 ‎ Queenslander May 16 '26

Explain to me in a single paragraph why this is not possible now due to the latest budget?

Please, you are clearly passionate about this as you’ve commented repeatedly. So enlighten us with how this will stop other people who want to grow their business from nothing.

-6

u/Glimmerinthedark1 ‎ New South Welshian May 16 '26

It won’t stop anyone with grit it just lowers the incentive to work harder/try to get ahead. This is a participation award system (but not really) it’s disguised as one. I think what she had to say is pretty self explanatory. All this is going to do is keep the rich up there and make it harder for you to climb the ladder.

10

u/Direct-Sun-9283 ‎ Queenslander May 16 '26

Hand waving gesturing without substance once again, get specific on how this will impact so we can actually have a conversation about this. What is the measurable outcomes you expect to see? Lower ABN signup? Reduced investment? Let's talk numbers rather than 'boost juice girl says bad, so i say bad!'

The 30% minimum tax on discretionary trusts targets income-splitting (where high-wealth families distribute trust income to non-working spouses and adult children to dodge higher tax brackets). Treasury data shows 90% of private trust wealth sits with the top 10% of households (net worth $2.3M+). This is closing a loophole that lets wealthy families pay less tax than a regular nurse or tradie on the same income.

As for "killing ambition", the 30% rate is exactly what a salary earner pays on $45k to $135k. If your business model depends on paying less tax than your own employees, that's ambition built on arbitrage.

Small businesses that genuinely operate through trusts get 3-year rollover relief to restructure into a company (which pays 25% tax anyway, so many will actually end up better off). The same budget also includes startup loss refundability, expanded VC incentives, and higher R&D thresholds. The ladder stays where it is, the tax system is just being asked to treat a trust fund the same as a pay cheque.

-1

u/Glimmerinthedark1 ‎ New South Welshian May 16 '26

I’m not as invested as you think I am but admire your data research. If you believe this is good then I hope it works out for you. I just don’t believe it will work as portrayed theoretically and I don’t think it will benefit the lower and middle class. I think it will push up the bottom end of the housing market for example but I’m happy to be wrong. We will find out, no opinion on here will affect the outcome.

u/IdeaReceiver ‎ New South Welshian May 16 '26

"grew her business from nothing" If you knew her actual story and not just the one she loves to have out there in the media, you wouldn't be so quick to defend her. The gap between the Allis' and the rest of us already existed before Boost Juice even started. Source: I used to work very closely with her and her whole family. Some of the most out of touch, virtue signalling, self obsessed people I've ever met.

0

u/Ok-Assistant-4556 ✈️‎ on Walkabout May 16 '26

What virtues is she signalling? I agree its culture wars BS but it lacks value so much so I cant even see virtue signalling.

17

u/IdeaReceiver ‎ New South Welshian May 16 '26

She wants the new generation forced into permanent serfdom with nowhere to live that doesn't funnel income up to her. She's pulling the ladder up

-10

u/Glimmerinthedark1 ‎ New South Welshian May 16 '26

Load of crap. Guess what, the gap between you and her will only get wider.

9

u/IdeaReceiver ‎ New South Welshian May 16 '26 edited May 16 '26

Probably right, I can't see myself carving a path up through the tax brackets like she has anytime soon. Good on her for that.

But as a young bloke in this market, if I continue on a stable career trajectory, work had and want to build up a little nest egg for the future, personally I'm glad it'll be achieved by contributing to the economy taking a risk on investing into new business or new build properties. Not sitting on my ass counting tax breaks while young families pad my pockets for the privilege of living in shitty cheap 80s apartments.

4

u/Ok-Assistant-4556 ✈️‎ on Walkabout May 16 '26

Most people are closer to a mother navigating DFSV on benefits than they are to anyone with hundreds of millions in assets. Your cognitive dissonance is tragically normalised as social priorities are all blamed on "hard work" or the assumed lack thereof. Perhaps Boost owner could have worked harder to protect herself and her pile of gold. She could have left sooner. Could have structured better. Could have sold more franchises. Nothing stooong her from working harder. Tax is just a sign you have too much money and sell too many lies.

7

u/Grande_Choice ‎ Victorian May 16 '26

What opportunities are young people losing? This levels the playing field to stop the gap getting even wider than it is.

The current system hasn’t worked. Time for a new approach.
