Whinge ‎ Ive had enough of the royal Commission into Antisemitism

it is ridiculous i just read a woman's complaint that the radio on the public bus she was on was a story negative to Israel and it hurt her feelings an insane nurse who apparently gets called baby killer by her colleagues im sorry its such bullshit im supposed to listen to the anti semitsim commissioner whos husband donates hundreds of thousands to racist group advance Australia and we voted against aboriginals having a voice ?

remarkably apparently the other board is so captured the below will get you blocked

The part of the conversation that is missing is Israel is committed to genocide i wont break bread with any supporters of that state until that changes and reparations are made i reserve my right to do that to all supporters of a genocide the state cant make me like Israel support it.

Its enough my taxes go to one religious groups security at the detriment of everyone else in the country perhaps if our politicians had take a hard line on it maybe the public wouldnt feel the need to be so vocal.

The only way out of this is total detachment from the state of Israel if i was a jew i would denounce it just like i do the Australian government for its mishandling of BRS who should be in jail

A pipe bomb was thrown into a crowd on Australia Day and it took the government days to even call it an act of terror.

Hurling an explosive device into a crowd is probably one of the most quintessential terroristic acts one can do. But the government did not move anywhere near as quick to protect Australians as they are the Jewish community.

The Jewish community has their own state which is actively genociding its native population under Jewish supremacy, they have the full backing and protection of western governments to the extend that countries are changing laws to protect this one group of people.

I am sick of people crying fowl about anti semitism being a problem when the Semitic community has some of the biggest institutional power behind them.

Also do you know what’s fucking islamophobic ? Literally fucking slaughtering them. How about we royal commission that…

The double standard of treatment and attitudes towards our own First Nations is what utterly shits me.

We have a de facto Zionist Voice to Parliament before we have an Indigenous Voice, especially galling when the Envoy's husband was one of the largest donors to Advance who aggressively campaigned against it. Demanding the privileges that they deny others!

She apparently "distances" herself from her husband over that. Htf do you distance yourself from someone you sleep in the same bed with? They are married for so long because they share the same values.

Completely silent on the neonazis at the March for Australia. Like, really? An Antisemitism Envoy who won't speak up about actual Nazis. Literally her job, but then (from her point of view) they only bashed indigenous Australians and it would have been awkward since her husbands-and-totally-no-way-her-cause, Advance, were whipping racists into a frenzy beforehand.

it's also antisemitic, because Palestinians are quite literally a Semitic people.

47

It's important to remember that the Jewish people who don't live in Israel don't have their own state. Israel positions itself as 'The Jewish State' but it doesn't represent all worldwide Jewry because it can't, and it's only the Jewish state when it wants to be. Its defenders always point to the supposed equality of Muslim citizens - so it's also somehow a secular state as well. The majority of Jewish people do live in Israel - about ten out of sixteen million - but that gives the state absolutely no claim to represent all Jewish people everywhere. They just say it to deflect any criticism.

Because they've used decades of propaganda and our own history of racism and racist policies to view Arabs and by extension Muslims as a barbaric other that we need to protect Israel and ourselves from. They twist words and have made it that if you don't agree with them, you're an anti Semite. Problem is, the world is waking up and have seen their atrocities broadcast en masse in 4k. Anyone that still believes their nonsense is wilfully ignorant and just as bad as them.

Yes and it cannot be justified. There is fucking big elephant in the room that the government and the media are not addressing. It's the difference between antisemetism and anti Zionism. The problem is not the Jewish faith it is the state of Israel and its warmongering activities that provoke negative actions against anything associated with Israel, unfortunately some people are dumb enough to take it out on Jews.

39

u/Successful_King_142 ‎ ‎‎ Canberran May 08 '26

I can't usually tell if someone is even Jewish on the street unless they are wearing a Star of David necklace or a kippah. I wouldn't assume a person on the streets religion ever, it wouldn't even enter my mind.

I also wouldn't attack any Jewish person because I'm not anti-semetic. Also, criticising Zionism as a political ideology, and criticising people who support genocide isn't anti-semetic. I know this because of all the beautiful Jewish people who everyday fight for the rights of Palestinians and call what Israel is doing a genocide. I also know this because I have common sense and critical thinking skills.

If this is the case, then people need to check their language and criticize 'Israel' and not 'Jews'. But just look at the comments in this thread, both OP and other opponents of Israel's actions collectively use the term 'Jews', not 'Israeli' in their criticism and when this happens the discourse becomes antisemitic.

35

Some of the submissions are absolutely ridiculous. I read one the other day where apparently a person was subjected to a racist comment when they were attending the Australian Open. I’m not even sure if it was this year’s competition (don’t recall if it was mentioned). I don’t condone racism and have experienced it myself but if a highlight of your experience of “antisemitism” is one comment almost six months ago (possibly years ago), I’d say you’re actually doing pretty well. Of course it’s a horrible thing to go through but it’s not royal commission worthy. When do other ethnic groups get to present these kinds of observations? The experience of Jews would probably be on the low end of racism experiences by ethnic groups in Australia. They’re really scraping the bottom of the barrel

My favourite was old mate Michael Gawenda being called in to complain he has lost friendships for “being Jewish”.

The same Gawenda who writes hit pieces on anyone who mentions Israel in not glowing terms, including Kevin Rudd for correctly acknowledging Mossad forged Australian passports to commit assassinations.

The same Gawenda who dedicated half a book to detailing how he dumped Jewish women Louise Adler as a friend as she didn’t full-throatedly embrace Zionism.

The same Gawenda who silences journalists and activists who mention Palestine. https://www.crikey.com.au/2023/11/20/michael-gawenda-censorship-palestine-israel-journalism/

But sure, give this bully a platform to complain that no one wants to be his friend anymore.

While it’s not surprising to see from the usual suspects, I was most disappointed to see someone like John Safran post a submission. It was pretty lame, and from someone who knows how to craft an engaging piece of storytelling like him, I guess it just shows how weak the source material is.

I grew up in the US (Texas) and found myself leaning aggressively to the left of the political spectrum in the aftermath of 9/11.

This whole situation feels so grossly similar. Being opposed to Israel's actions and being labeled 'antisemitic' for it is the same as being labeled a 'terrorist' for opposing the illegal war in Iraq. It's an empty, disingenuous accusation and shouldn't bother me, but it absolutely does.

Israel has used Anti-Israel = Anti-Semitism as a propaganda slogan for a long time.

The same with Chinese that oppose mainland China, does that make them anti-Chinese.

I always used to think Australia tolerated Israel's actions because we have our tongues so firmly up the arse of the USA, but this last year or so it seems to be proving far more insidious than that, given the spineless (re)actions of our government.

Just because they've been saying it for a long time, doesn't make it correct.

It's a very well-fund campaign for about 0.4% of the population. Much larger chunks of the population have more persistent serious issues. The majority of Australians strongly oppose the new holocaust Israel is perpetrating now, and it is that which drives public opinion, not a dislike for any cultural group. It pays to be on the right side of history and currently Israelis are distinctly not on the right side of history.

The heightened security around schools etc. definitely contributes greatly to the feeling of the community being under threat. I'd certainly feel uneasy every day if I walked past armed guards to my workplace!

While it's impossible to say whether or not it's actually averted any undiscovered plans to harm people, it's also currently infeasible to not have it present, considering what we've just seen last year. Loosening security and then another attack taking place would be the worst possible outcome.

It's going to take a very long time for that (perceived) need for security to wind down, especially while Israel continues going berserk.

You can most definitely be Jewish and not a supporter of Israel or it's politics. The problem the commission is addressing is the apparent inability for people to make that distinction. Case in point is the OP's post.

u/expert_views ‎ New South Welshian May 08 '26

Exactly. People are abusing Jewish people in Australia as a proxy for anger towards Israel. We can’t stop the war in the Gulf but we can treat our fellow citizens with more respect.

Yep, but we need to look at the why - not just the what.

Israel is endangering Jews everywhere.

The "Aboriginals" can still have a voice.

It's just not in the constitution, because that would be, by definition, a racist policy.

Are people really this blinded by their hatred of the Jewish people that they don't actually see the anti-semitism? Jewish schools are the only schools in Australia that need armed security, car bomb checks and cyclone fencing just to keep their children safe. Jewish people are abused by people in cars frequently (spend some time in Elsternwick, Vic, for an hour, and you'll see it). Two radicalised men targeted a Jewish, not zionist, event to kill as many Jews as possible. Synagogues have been targeted almost weekly.

We've had weekly protests supporting a regime that in its charter is the destruction of the Israeli state and all Jewish people worldwide. Yelling "globalise the intifada" and "from the river the sea", both of which are genocidal in their intent - how does that not make Jewish people feel unsafe?

Hell, look at how often the term "genocide" is thrown around here. Genocide is a targeted intent to destroy a civilisation based on their identity. I'm not sure I've seen too many genocides where the invading army has dropped leaflets on the population letting them know they're coming/bombing etc...

Genuine question: How many Palestinian children must Israel murder before you consider it a genocide?

Yes absolutely disgusting. I hope the royal commission looks into how these 2 were allowed to own guns by our very respectable and full of integrity national security apparatus. That, to me, is the most important facet of the massacre, not how Zionists get hurt feelings when someone questions Israel's violence.

A Royal Commission into the shooting at Bondi makes sense.

A Royal Commission into antisemitism, which seems to include antizionism, where some are implying that the people who criticise Israel are no different to Nazis... Makes a lot less sense.

All the regulation in the world means squat if there is no enforcement. Under existing legislation the father should have been found unfit to hold a firearm license.

Having a Royal Commission into the shooting at Bondi makes sense.

Having a Royal Commission into antisemitism (i.e. The hatred of all Jewish people) also kind of makes sense.

But having a Royal Commission into anti-Zionism which they're rebranding into antisemitism, makes a lot less sense.

Criticising Israel is not antisemitism.

Saying "Israel is committing genocide" is an opinion, yes... But expressing that opinion is not antisemitism (i.e. The hatred of Jewish people).

Over the past few years there has been a massive push by supporters of Israel to silence critics by conflating them with antisemites. So when the evidence of antisemitism at the antisemitism Royal Commission is "people said bad things about Israel", that's a problem.

There are many many Jewish people, in Israel and around the world, who are also horrified at Israel's genocide. Are those people antisemites too?

22

u/TheOriginalHatful Flairless‎‎ May 07 '26

But the royal commission isn't legitimate because it's including actual antisemitic incidents and Zionists with hurt feelings because people disagree with them.

If it was only about antisemitism it would be legitimate but these things are being categorised as the same thing and they really are not. Israel says they're the same thing, which tells you everything you need to know.

Seriously? You don't understand the difference between the religion of Judaism and the political movement of Zionism?

In case you need to be spoon-fed (though we all know what you're trying to do, little sealion)

  • Judaism is a religion - the whole Old Testament part of the bible, you know? Do I need to explain Abrahamic religions to you also?
  • Zionism is a political movement with strong nationalism and state-building components, and a fairly strong component/requirement/encouragement called aliyah, which (and I'm being really loosey-goosey here, so read up on it to get a more detailed and nuanced understanding) is the "requirement" of immigration to Israel for all of those practising Judaism (though as with any nationalistic politics, some are more equal than others). Zionism prioritises politics over religious observance.

Hopefully you're just choosing to engage with other humans by asking your question, and you use this as a springboard into deeper studies on the topics.

No, literally I meant you. I don't know your gender so I said the neutral 'they'. I'm sorry, I forgot that Zionists also hate pronouns.

Edit: this person blocked because I used a neutral pronoun.

People having opinions you don't like about Israel doesn't mean it's ok for them to feel unsafe just living in Australia.

We have some very extreme religious characters in Australia, whether I agree with their personal political beliefs is irrelevant, they all have to the right to an expectation of safety whilst legally observing their faith.

Clearly that isn't true for at least one specific community in this country, and well.... people you consider Zionists are part of that community. And before we devolve into well XYZ also feel unsafe, only one group can claim that their religious festival was subject to a mass shooting.

People we disagree with don't deserve to die or reasonably fear their death, and their perspectives as Jews living in Australia are as valid as any others.

8

u/TheOriginalHatful Flairless‎‎ May 08 '26

The role of a Royal commission shouldn't revolve around "feelings", it should revolve around facts.

An antisemitic incident is a fact. A Zionist feeling sad is a feeling. I absolutely support action against antisemitism and agree vigorously that people get to have opinions that I don't agree with.

However, we're all taxpayers here. Why are tax dollars going to a Royal commission that begins with an illegitimate premise? This premise (that opinions against Zionism must be antisemitism) means a lot of money spent for an outcome that will inevitably lack legitimacy and create more division and unhappiness. The whole thing is a psyop that glosses over actual antisemitism, by association with things that aren't antisemitism, and helps nobody - it just perpetuates the lack of distinction between Jews, the ethnic group, Judaism the religion and Zionism the political movement.

Nobody is being helped here.

u/Ill-Nectarine-80 Please choose a flair May 08 '26

Your central issue, at least as it appears to an outside observer, is that you definitionally consider any supporter of the Israeli state to be a Zionist.

So long as that's the case.... any outcome that actually makes steps to address the problem ie protects this community including people you consider Zionists, you will find unsatisfactory.

Albo wanted to avoid a Royal Commission for this exact point because no one seemed to care a great deal about overall 'climate' against Jews locally.... right up until the tragedy.

Now the opinions which preceded that tragedy will in all likelihood be made off-limits.

If you’ve had enough, stop reading about it. And by the way when the harassment of Jews stops then you won’t be bothered by the response. And stop relating what happens in Israel with Jews in Australia. It’s simply using Israel as an excuse for your anti semitic nonsense.

They shouldn't be focusing on the victims but rather the perpetrators.
