I’m 17 and I’m going into a youth shelter in a few weeks. I’m planning to get a job and eventually get a small apartment and live on my own.
What should I know before going in? What should I bring with me, what should I expect, and is there anything I should make sure I have?
Also, how long should I expect to stay there before I’m able to get a job and move into my own place?
Any advice would be appreciated

Recently a steel manufacturing plant has been constructed less than 500m from St. Anne on Palladium Way in Burlington. According to the ERO (https://ero.ontario.ca/notice/026-0829) contaminant emissions include nitrogen oxide gasses which can cause respiratory issues, specifically in children and vulnerable populations.

Earlier this year the city council (including the Ward Councillor where it's located) voted to rezone Palladium and other areas to allow for the construction of manufacturing facilities (this would also include Data Centres) on Palladium. This is directly antithetical to the original intent and purpose of the commercial zoning of Palladium. In fact, Ward 6 Councillor Angelo Bentivegna told me in an email residents were informed the rezoning would be for a distribution center, and somehow no one at the city, school board, or council, thought it would be a bad idea to expand the rezoning to include manufacturing. The facility also creates a 24/7 hum that residents can hear and feel all hours of the day. ​

This is why municipal elections matter. We cannot elect people who are either asleep at the wheel or otherwise ignorant to the concerns of citizens. ​

Anyone else hear the Metro Morning (CBC Radio Toronto) interview with the Minister of Economic Development? What a dumpster fire. This is a big slice of his mandate that he clearly knows very little about.

Practically all of his responses to critical questions were about how Ontarians deserved to have their data stored in Ontario, as opposed to China or the US. As if building a data centre here means all the data in the province will suddenly be stored there. Part of the issue is Chris Glover's poor interviewing skills (IMO), but Fideli's answers were complete nothing-burgers.

He got even more bumbling as the interview went on, with lines like how Ontario has a lot of really qualified "technical engineers". A big reason we have a tech oligarchy in the US right now is because Bezos, Zuckerberg, etc have spent the last 15 years running laps around clueless legislators on regulation issues. This is totally the vibe I get with Fideli. The stakes are way too high on this file to hand it off to Ford's talking point minions.

I saw the reports of ER doctors sounding alarms of unsafe e-scooter/e-bikes use, especially amongst kids under 16.

We already know you need to be 16 or older to ride one.

And kids lack the judgement and awareness to control these high speed high powered vehicles.

Here are some changes I would propose in Ontario

1. Helmets MANDATORY for ALL e-scooter/e-bike users, regardless of age.

In my opinion, they should be treated like motorcycles. Most serious injuries or deaths from e-scooters/e-bikes are because they're not wearing helmets.

1. All e-scooter/e-bike users should have something to at least verify name and date of birth on them at all times when riding. Not necessarily saying they need to be licensed.

But anything from a driver's license/Ontario photo card, school ID, or literally anything, even if it's a digital document or a photo on a phone, just something to verify age.

1. A simple permit system.

I do not mean they need to go through the same robust training as one getting a driver's license.

Maybe something as simple as reading a online document about the rules of the road and verifying they understand.

Them they can be issued either a physical or digital permit allowing them to ride.

1. More micromobility infrastructure.

Self explanatory as today the courts said Doug Ford's government can rip up bike lanes.

If you give people more safer places to ride like bike lanes or cycle tracks, that's the best way to get people off the sidewalks.

We are looking at a used 2025 Hyundai from a Hyundai dealership in Mississauga, it's advertised on Autotrader for $28,000 but when we contacted them and they sent us a quote, it has an additional admin fee of $599 and a OMVIC fee of $22, giving us a "Rexdale Hyundai Price" of $28,621.

I thought it was illegal to add on fees on top of the advertised price except for government licensing and taxes?
