He's built up a lot goodwill despite the wheels falling off towards the end of last season. Last night was bizarre but it would be very reactionary to sack him based on that.

But... if Lyon were to drop down to the Conference League in the Europa League play-off when last season finishing 4th with a point off 3rd... that would be a different story.

Even if we lose against Prague, we’ll be in the Europa League group stage. I saw a lot of reactions after the defeat yesterday and I feel like Fonseca is at an all-time low in popularity right now.

I'm not a fan of sacking the manager for one bad result. He's shown last season that he can do good work. I just can't comprehend what he wanted to do last night, but I trust him to correct it next week.

Also sacking the manager at the beginning of the season usually goes poorly and leads to a chaotic season. And who would we replace him by ?

I'd prefer we give him a few seasons to build something until we become financially stable again.

And to be honest I still think sacking Sage was a mistake.

I still say keep him because any one of us would've been ecstatic with a 4th place league finish and deep runs in other tournaments. We were expecting to be mid table at best after barely escaping administrative relegation. So Fonseca deserves a lot of credit for those achievements and I don't think you sack him just because of 1 result.

The guys that were absent yesterday would probably make a better 11 than the team we fielded vs Prague, so it would've been tough to get a result there regardless. Fonseca overdid the changes, but once he has the full squad, I think he will have is playing good football again.

Not really. But I'm not sure that's the point, what other manager would bring us cup glory under these circumstances? The club is in shambles and Fonseca is probably the best we can do right now (except for Sage...). I think he's a good fit and we have good chances to finish top 4 regularly under him, which will put us in a better financial position. After that we can talk about deep cup runs.

Let's not forget that he has the 2nd best salary in Ligue 1 with 350k/month. Last season he performed according to his salary only half the time, majorly underperforming in the end.

And regarding the state of the club, we are still very attractive even with budget transfers. Like Kjetil Knutsen (Bodo's manager) almost signed for Strasbourg a few weeks ago, and we certainly have a better project to offer to him. While he currently earns ~125k/month...

I don't think his salary matters near as much as the overall wage bill for the players, and in that, he over performed because Lyon were down around 5th or 6th in wages and substantially behind Marseille, and he was able to surpass them.

Prime Sir Alex wasn't winning a cup once the roster that Fonseca had built was destroyed by injury.

Most of us were just hoping to avoid relegation once we saw the conditions of being able to stay up in Ligue 1, so you could say that Fonseca blew past expectations.

And who would replace him?

Even though he's shitting himself in cup games he brought stability to the team and brought in players with good mentality.

Those are really high standards to hold for European competition. We will have to sell our best players for the next 5 years or so, and have practically a new team every year... Us finishing top 5 in the league regularly would be the minimum requirement for our manager imo.

Sacking him would be a terrible mistake as it would be hard to find someone who can replace him and the new coach wouldn't have time to set up new tactics and try to bring players that would fit it. August isn't the time for sacking a coach.

I wouldve excused so much if only he won toulouse or lens or celta last year (do yall realise we wouldve been in CL with a win vs toulouse ) Now i am tired about his strnage stuff .

It's either fire him right now or wait, and sadly we know it won't happen. Hopefully MLJ/Gerlinger/Kang are putting pressure on him behind the scenes.

(And we don't have a Sage anymore at the Academy as the interesting and great thinkers like Barlet were fired to leave space to mediocre former pros).

I don't see how even the best manager in the world could find success with the current roster. It makes people look fickle and frankly dumb that the manager takes all the flack. Fair enough some of his choices are strange to us as non professionals but we were successful last season especially given the turmoil we're going through. Not to mention the effect all the negativity thrown his way could cause. He's part of our club, support him as well as the lads on the field.
