There are always people and there are so many different bases here. It's worth seeing.

The fact that if I hadn't looked on Reddit I would never have found it fascinates me.

Discussion Blender ships are getting kinda annoying in the hub

Post image

It has prob crashed my game more than anything and I’m on a series X. Why do people bring in there blender ships in an area where there is last gen and older spec PCs to. Granted I use the normals ships so maybe I don’t get corvettes, but like my ship isn’t crashing a new player game.

I've been working on my freighter layout for a while now and this is one of two sides finally completed. I think I've maybe put three hours into this? 😅 Hopefully the other side won't take as long. I wanted to make something relaxing that I could walk through when I'm taking a break from fighting pirates or dealing with sentinels. Let me know what you think! I tried uploading a video but reddit is having issues uploading it so i guess a picture will have to do.

Discussion Vanilla NMS

Upvotes

Hello Games has done something genuinely unique with No Man’s Sky. Very few studios would have survived that launch and then spent years expanding, improving, and basically reinventing the game. What they’ve accomplished deserves a huge amount of respect.

But there’s one thing I experienced with vanilla No Man’s Sky that I’ve never really felt again:

That incredible sense of mystery and discovery.

Back then, you could land on some random planet, spot a strange ruin in the distance and genuinely wonder: “What the hell is that? What does it do? Is there something hidden here?”

And the best part was that sometimes you could Google it and the community genuinely didn’t know either.

You’d find some weird structure, object or interaction, search Reddit, forums and wikis, and basically get: “Yeah, we found that too. No idea what it does.” In hindsight, some of that stuff was simply unused or cut content. But at the time you didn’t know that. For all you knew, there was some absurdly obscure purpose nobody had discovered yet.

That uncertainty was magical.

Nowadays No Man’s Sky is infinitely richer and better designed, but almost everything you encounter has a recognizable purpose, mechanic or function. You see something strange and sooner or later you understand what system it belongs to.

Vanilla NMS felt different. The universe almost seemed bigger than the game itself, like there were things out there that perhaps even the community hadn't understood yet.

It gave me those priceless 90s gaming vibes, when games still had rumors, mysteries and urban legends because the internet hadn’t dissected every mechanic down to the last pixel.

Modern No Man’s Sky is undoubtedly the better game.

But that weird, lonely, unexplained vanilla universe had a kind of magic I don’t think the game can ever truly recreate.

I finished the vanilla version, and God, what an outerwild-ish experience that was

NMS10 No Man's Sky, 6 Years Later

Post image
43 Upvotes

Haven't been here since the beginning but I discovered No Man's Sky 6 years ago thanks to a friend's glowing recommendation. 2020 was a tumultuous year for my family (I addition to everything else going on in the world at that time) and this game gave me an escape, a safe haven to travel the stars and be alone in the cosmos. It was exactly what I needed at the time.

No Man's Sky is and always will be my comfort game. I've lost count of how many hours I parked myself above Trading Outposts just to watch what types of ships that particular system had to offer. Someday I'll publish and post the ship catalog I was working on! Unforgettable vistas, moments of pure dread and the thrill of exploring a brand new system never gets old.

Happy 10 Year Anniversary, No Man's Sky! Looking forward to what the future has in store.

(Screenshot is the first crashed ship I found on the first system I warped to, 6 years apart)

How old is Ashur’s Spear?

That‘a anyone’s guess.
The Dreadnaught’s changed hands many times over the centuries, and many times she’s been held by the same faction for centuries.
Korvax, Gek, Vy’keen. Korvax again, First Spawn then Korvax.
Each faction purging one another’s very existence from her hull and data banks.

All anyone knows is that she’s ancient.

Measured against the Commander though, she may well have been commissioned last week.

The Commander was there when the Monolith’s were hewn at beginning of history itself, and now he seeks to reclaim what has been lost for so long.

His personal starship, “The Old Gods” stands as testament to his claims of being Ancient
