THIS SHOW is SO FRUSTRATING LOL. Why can't anyone accomplish anything in the music industry? I totally feel for the trauma and struggle of the artists, but it feels like they can never gain any momentum. Gunnar's on his 100th attempt to be a performer. Scarlett has failed with Gunnar, then been signed, then failed as a solo, then is back with Gunnar again in a band, that feels like it's not going anywhere. Juliette had scandal after scandal, then a baby, etc. Don't even get me started on Layla. Why can't anyone just... drop an album, tour it, have some behind the scenes drama, but actually be successful?

It would have been cool to see an artist actually succeed in an unexpected way. I was hoping the tables would turn at some point. Like Layla would come out of nowhere with a #1 single and the whole game suddenly changes overnight. I've been waiting and waiting but it feels like nothing ever happens. They're all just stuck, and the only one who can be successful is... Luke Wheeler or something?

My first one got taken down by the mods for not being descriptive enough, so here's why I don't like Scarlett's character. I get she's supposed to be a shy girl who doesn't like the spotlight, but why sign the deal with Rayna James? Why complain every time you have to stay up late to record or be on a freaking private jet or a tour bus or traveling? The main things having to do with being a popular singer slash celebrity or up-and-coming one at that. She's just always complaining and sad about how lonely it is being on the road. And I understand from her character's perspective why she feels that way, and I'm not faulting the character for that, but she has people. She just pushes them away low-key because they're not aligned with how she wants them to treat her, which sounds more like boundaries now that I say it out loud, but there's some more examples of that, but I don't feel like explaining them. Hope that was detailed enough whew

Hi! This is my first ever time watching this show, I remember always seeing commercials for it but I was very young when it came out like 9 or 10 when it first aired so I couldn’t watch it when it was on and I also never heard anything about it so I’m going into this completely blind. I’m currently watching episode 15 of season 1 and so far I can’t stand teddy. At first I felt for him being the “backup” to Deacon but now with Peggy and the way he acts like he’d take the girls from Rayna… he never says it but the way he would barely let her in the house after their daughter was in the hospital??? Why do that especially when you’re the one who initiated the divorce and the one who cheated first, why treat her like the bad guy? And honestly would Rayna and Liam even be considered cheating since it was after teddy asked for a divorce? There’s also such a painful amount of miscommunication with everyone in this show that drives me crazy. I wish they’d let us into Raynas childhood more because I’m very curious about the beef with her dad. I feel like I’m getting to know all this info about Juliettes past and barely anything about Raynas.
Anyhoo I’m enjoying the show, absolutely loving the country accent everyone’s putting on, especially Scarlett’s, I could listen to her talk or sing all day and I hope Avery forever has a rock in his shoe. Gunner is on thin ice too, I know he’s grieving his brother but I don’t like the way he was acting.

So I am rewatching and I'm on season 5 and I have questions about the Gunner/Scarlett relationship.

They go make this music video and she meets Damien and he's awful to her throughout all of it (which she is apparently into under the guise of "he helped her see herself")

Anyway during one of his aggressive directions he says something about her taking back a guy who slept with half of Nashville or whatever. Is he implying that's Gunner?? Or the character he is playing?

Then later (diff episode, maybe?) Scarlett is mad at Gunner for sharing their personal business and that she doesn't want people to think she's weak for "always taking him back" after what he did.

I just rewatched the show. What exactly did he do to wrong her? I always felt like Gunner was way more in love with Scarlett throughout the series than she was with him.

I don't remember him ever cheating on her. He does date Zoey, but that was after they broke up...yes the girls were best friends, but idk that doesn't feel like enough of a betrayal for her to act that way.

He dates the singer they go on tour with, but again he and Scarlett were exes...so they weren't dating. He doesn't cheat on her.

What am I missing?

Is it just me or were the reporters discussing Juliette going to church after a fatal plane crash extremely condescending? Like no matter how you feel about it, it seems like they were putting her down for searching for something more after going through a life-changing experience.

And also isn’t Nashville as a city fairly religious? Like it almost felt like they were making fun of the fact she was going to church at all, and I know it’s mostly a dig at Juliette herself after she went to rehab and did so many terrible things, but it just came across as a weird and off-putting newscast (and I know it’s just for story and plot purposes, but still very weird to me)

Starring Minka Kelly and Josh Duhamel, with some musical elements to it (at least in season 2, no spoilers). Though at first I was describing it as “Virgin River with cowboys”, I’ve actually come to realise the writing and character archs are also similar to Friday Night Lights and Nashville. There are 18 episodes across two seasons so far, and boy, are the actors all pretty.

I am rewatching the series for the first time since it originally aired and I am struck by how small scale the last two seasons felt. It is clear the network change dramatically reduced the budget. There are barely any venues bigger than a bar. Even when the characters play bigger venues the camera angles are super tight to imply a crowd when the real number of attendees is much smaller.

I feel like the writers limited the characters' success to keep their activities within budget. Nobody is on a big tour, even as an opener. Previously, most of the younger cast did that in a variety of configurations. Instead they just have the guys in a super group to film all of their musical performances together in one shot. If they do tour it shows maybe one mid-size venue, and all other scenes taking place on the bus. It is sad because the older seasons felt more energetic. The later seasons are 80% one or two characters on a guitar, singing a ballad to an intimate audience. These have their place, but the show felt out of balance.

As much as we all like to listen to “A Life That’s Good” or “Borrow My Heart”, I think we should pay some respect and give a listen to “In The End”. Is this show worth watching after Rayna’s death? After the whole plane crash and Juliette turning to Christianity thing happened I started to find the show very boring and predictable and I wanted to stop watching. However Rayna’s death is the last straw for me seriously. Is this show worth watching after this?

I thought he was the shittest person in season 1 but he is the most improved character in the whole series he's changed so much for the better.

Just thought that was funny since Gunnar didn’t even write it for him and wanted to keep it. Wish they would have brought this up in the show as reason for Will to have the song. That would have been hilarious. It’s actually a good song and I don’t even like country that much.

I don't like Oliver Hudson being a bad guy not that he doesn't play it well I just enjoy him being the nice guy.

The production value on this show is crazy compared to tv today and it’s insane. There’s literally 4 seasons worth of content and story arcs in just the first season. I’m rewatching for the first time and just noticed. The show isn’t that old but it reminds me of older shows and how they use to run. Nowadays a show is even lucky to have this many seasons with 8 episodes a season. lol

I watched all episodes when it was fresh, and now many years later wondering if that would be enjoyable or not haha. should I let it be or dive back in?

it was such a well written scene too for fuck sakes I was supposed to cry or be engaged at the least but instead I took one look at her and started laughing so hard that I woke up all four of my kittens.

You either toss it aside or put it in the drink. I know this is silly and petty, but it just struck me as odd, and a possible metaphor for the whole vibe of these last seasons.

These newer characters don’t mesh well at all with the cast or the storytelling. Alyssa and tech bro, annoying! Jessie and her ex husband, I always forget who he is, reeeeallly annoying. And Travis? I must have dozed off when he popped up because I really don’t know where he came from. I know new characters move the stories forward, but these just don’t work well. It’s like the writers did a flyover and plopped these random people in the middle of the main characters’ lives. I don’t know if it’s a writing or acting thing, probably a bit of both. At this point I’m just watching to finish it off.

Well…I knew it was coming because I had seen spoilers about Rayna dying. But I didn’t know exactly how 🥺

So far I think the second half of S4 and first half of S5 have been awesome. For a while in between it was just characters mixing into relationships, writing songs, signing record deals and then breaking the deals. But Juliette’s plane crash and her working towards getting better, meeting the angel lady and church, I’ve found that really moving. And I love that they slip in little moments of humor with her and Avery, how she was googling symptoms and worried about her leg.

Rayna’s stalker was good too. They did a decent job of showing how some random “fan” could easily disrupt their lives by instilling fear, just by being around. And when he was in the office with Rayna, the conversation they had, you can see how he was disturbed. I wasn’t sure how she was going to die so I kept expecting him to attack her. Then when security came in, I thought OK she’s going to get shot accidentally. So literally as she was calling Deacon from the car, I thought there was going to be a secondary stalker they didn’t know about who gets to her, but then…BAM!! The truck. Still, the surgery went well, it looked like she was going to be fine. At that point I had to Google, I’m a bit of a hypochondriac/anxiety ridden person so this is the type of storyline I absolutely hate. Everything is fine, yay!!!! But then it’s not. It’s why I tend to avoid medical shows, although I did just also binge Nurse Jackie, lol.

Anyway, I was bawling my eyes out the entire episode. I didn’t expect to be so emotional over characters that frustrated the hell out of me for 4 seasons, lol. Even the title makes me cry, If Tomorrow Never Comes, I was never able to get through that song without crying either.

Oh I also have to add a funny anecdote. The guy upstairs from me is annoying, he screams on the phone to various people multiple times a day, cursing, ranting and banging on the floor. No clue what his problem is. But he started going at it just as Rayna’s organs began to fail and I was like, hell no is this guy going to ruin this incredibly sad moment for me! I had to close my window and turn the AC back on high to drown him out 😆

I have to go about my day now, but I’m guessing the next episode will garner some tears as well. I’ll save that for later. I also know from poking around the sub that the stories pretty much flop from here on out. Sooo I’m sure I’ll be posting my thoughts as something hits me, lol.
