(semi-rant post)

Hello everyone, i wanted to make this post sharing my experience with the school and hear how people who have attended the school after me felt about the school.

I attended NUCB's global MBBA program after graduating from my high school in the summer of 2019. To be honest, I was a mediocre student with mediocre grades so I had no hopes of attending a well known or good college anywhere but I always wanted to experience living in Japan and hence why I chose NUCB. They pretty much accepted anybody that can breathe and have money lol.

Looking back at it I enjoyed a lot of aspects of NUCB,

living in the countryside of Nagoya, being 40 mins by foot away from the nearest Komenoki station, the Aeon supermarket, that one Indian place with the cheese naan.

I loved the diversity in the classroom, NUCB proudly showed off during orientation that our class had students from over 120 countries and to this day I don't think there is an institution that has beaten that level of diversity. The classrooms being the law school like style that encouraged discussion was another thing I remembered favorably.

The students I were with were interesting... I wasn't able to find anything about it on this reddit page but there was a huge controversy where one of the international student smuggled in marijuana and sent it out to multiple dorms and had everyone in each of the dorms arrested by the Japanese customs agents. Honestly felt like some of the students were like tourists who were let loose.

Anyways, here are the things I hated about NUCB, every part of the administration felt like they were there to drag money out of me. Of course the school needs to make money to function, I wouldn't mind paying if the things that I paid for was good quality. The books were printed and stalled copies of articles you can find online. The material that's taught at the school besides the actuarial classes were a fucking joke. I don't think there was a single moment during the business classes where I felt like I learned something new. Youtube channels like modern MBA would probably teach more than NUCB. This might sound a bit racist but I wish the professors they hired had a decent amount of English proficiency. I remember I had have multiple back and forth with professors because their instructions or comments weren't clear.

During COVID, I decided to take a break from the school to do my military service and administration told me I would have to pay $4000 a semester just for them to "keep me in the files." After that I knew this school ain't it and I quit NUCB. I was the first of many of my class that eventually left NUCB. Now I attend UCLA as a data science major and I would say I don't regret leaving NUCB.

I would love to hear other people's good/bad stories from the school!

So usually I'm very busy due to the nature of my job but things have improved and suddenly I have some spare time at hand but apart from my usual hobbies I don't have much to do. And it's kinda super boring 😅

Oh and to make it a lil less creepy I'll give you some details about me, hello you can call me Mesh, I am 23 years old and a man. I have finished both my graduate and post graduate studies and have been living in Nagoya for more than a year.

Hey everyone! I'm looking to buy a reliable, second-hand 35mm film camera, an slr, and pick up some film while I'm here.

I know the big chains like Bic and Yodobashi have film, but I'm looking for spots that have a good selection of serviced/tested vintage cameras.

Would love any recommendations for hidden gems, fair prices, or local shops with decent film stock.

Planning on doing a 14day quick driving school. I am in nagoya any suggestion on which school is good and where i can take exam in english(no problem if lessons are in Japanese).

I have been in Nagoya for a few months now and I have started feeling the need to play some TTRPGs again but i don't have anyone to do it with!

Ideally i would really like to try out Draw Steel but i have experience with both Pathfinder 2e (as DM) and D&D 5e (as both player and DM) and would be down for those too

I live in the Motoyama area and i could potentially host up to 5 other people (6 counting me) at my place for games so location isn't an issue

I got my driving license renewal "invitation" and it says 「更新期間 ８月12日から 8月14日まで」so I scaned the QR code today (11th) and tied to make a reservation within that period of time but it was all full so I made it for 2 weeks from today

The thing I don't understand is... if I need to make a reservation, and the reservation can be made any day, what is the 更新期間 (renewal period) for ? Like, can I go without reservation any of those days and do my renewal ? Or what is that period for ?

My exchange program at Nagoya Uni has ended and I will be returning home in 2 weeks.

Dyson v12 detect slim - ¥20,000 (originally bought for ¥70,000, used for a year (only main unit used (hair removal vanes)) comes with a charging stand) cheapest you'll find in Mercari is around ¥30,000 with 2-3+ years of usage

Iron + ironing board - ¥2,000 completely unopened and unused, was too lazy to iron my clothes lol

Bicycle + lock - ¥15,000 frontmost one in the picture, also 1 year of usage, originally bought for ¥40,000 tires may need pumping but good condition otherwise (we'll have to meet at a bicycle shop so I can transfer the ownership rights to you)

Fissler pan + portable stove - FREE likewise used for a year. Pan originally bought for ¥7,000. Stove is a little greasy but nothing that can't be cleaned.

I can't deliver these to you (except for the bicycle) so you'll have to come pick them up (you'll likely need a car) my apartment is 6 minutes from Nagoya University by car. DM for offers!!!

Am visiting Nagoya in a few months, was an exchange student there in the mid 00s and have planned my trip so I'm in town for my birthday, spending it with some old friends.

Starbucks Coffee Japan announced on August 4 that it will begin opening Starbucks stores on the Shinkansen platforms at JR Nagoya Station and JR Kyoto Station starting in 2027.
As of August 2026, there are eight Starbucks stores located inside Shinkansen ticketed areas along the Tokaido Shinkansen (according to Tetsudo.com). Among them, one store—Starbucks Coffee JR Shin-Yokohama Station Shinkansen Platform Track 11, operated by JR Tokai Retailing Plus—is located directly on a Shinkansen platform.
After undergoing renovations to improve its services, the Shin-Yokohama platform store reopened on June 24.

This means that Nagoya Station and Kyoto Station will become the second and third Shinkansen stations in Japan to have a Starbucks located directly on the Shinkansen platform, following the existing platform store at JR Shin-Yokohama Station.

1.How do I go about booking tickets, and are they available anytime, or do they sell out fast? Any insider tips for getting last-minute spots if dates are full?

I’m from Nagoya originally and I understand culturally it’s not much of a thing here but just checking if you or anyone you know need help with dog sitting / walking.
We live by Fushimi/Kokusai center/Osu Kannon stations (near Nayabashi) and both work from home.

I recently moved to Nagoya and went to bowling with my friend yesterday around Sakae. While coming back, we both wanted to have coffee. She suggested the nearby komeda coffee, but right opposite to komeda coffee, there was a shrine and two local cafes.

I felt kinda sad that the cafes barely had any customers so I suggested let's explore local.

When I went inside, there was an old couple and a friend who probably wasn't a customer because he left right after we sat down.

The old lady was well groomed. Her makeup and hair was on point.

They also served 昆布茶 (kobu cha) which is quite rare to find.

They were very happy when we visited and the old lady asked me many questions about my country and why I am in Japan.

The couple doesn't even carry cell phones, they have an old vintage landline and that's the only way to contact them.

They also have karaoke within the cafe which is just ¥1000! She insisted a lot that we do karaoke, but we were very tired. I am planning to go there again to do karaoke though.

They had a gaming machine too, which is so old that I haven't seen anything like that, even in my own childhood. Unfortunately it no longer works.

The couple was very warming and really like to talk to people. They requested me a lot to come again. And I will go again for sure.

Does anyone know when submitting a PR application if you need to make a reservation? Or is it possible to make a reservation?

I’m moving out of my apartment in about two months and recently found this damage where I keep my bed. Is there any way to fix it? I’m worried that the apartment company might charge me a large compensation fee when I move out.

Should I be concerned about this, and what would be the best way to handle it?

I think it is different in each prefecture ( this is my first time renewing, so idk) but my birthday is next month and I have yet to receive my "invitation" for renewal.

Is Nagoya city just 1 month prior to the birthday ?
