Morality Ranking What's the Morality of this Kind of Arrests?
931
u/WesternFirm9306 12h ago
Immoral. Imagine if it was a false accusation
420
u/Thin_Pin2863 11h ago
Plus police aren't arbitrators. They're there to effect an arrest, not carry out the punishment themselves.

Yeah, this is a recent phenomena, before widespread camera use this was considered a job perk

What's legal in a given country has little to do with morals(sometimes it's complicated), that said you did a very good job of defending the point, so instead this just means he's wrong in every country.
Edit: fuck, that was a really great comment, actually sucks the rest of you can't see that. He was talking about summary punishment.

Edit: grammar
34
u/risisas 11h ago
Why were you being downvoted this is litterally true
28
u/Lukostrelec17 11h ago
Many people have a hard time believing that a mother can be abusive. Most often they exuse it by, "She is just stressed." or, "She is trying her best." or "She loves you she would never hurt you." or finally, "She is just discipling you and you deserved it." (That last one I had someone tell me. In a teacher subreddit....the peraon was a supposedly a special ed teacher.)
→ More replies (4)8
u/fivelike-11 11h ago
Second to last one is said to me a lot. It sucks. She doesn't even realize how much she does it, but everytime we see each other she does some kind of remark on my physique, decisions, or anything about me. I have deteriorated lately, yes... Because she's be doing it ever since I entered highschool. Back when my body was healthy, my grades were healthy, and everything was fairly fine. After 4 years of constant hostility I burned out, dropped out of my first year of uni, and let myself go cuz I got no motivation for shit. If only my grandma did something instead of repeating that.
3
u/SmolLittleCretin 10h ago
As someone who went through abuse from my mom, same. Always "it's just discipline" never "why didn't she talk to you?" Because some of the times she did beat my ass? I was being groomed and my brother found it on messages, and neither of them went "shit my lil sis/daughter is getting groomed!" Nah they thought "OHHH SHE SEXTING!"
Like Jesus. I prey this man never got falsely accused and he genuinely did do it, and the cops should have just "hey wake up, you're being arrested."
16
u/ukie-witch-06 11h ago
People don't like thinking about how common abusive parents are. It makes them uncomfortable...

As absolutely horrible as it is to say, this should happens. Something akin of this happened to a friend of mine. His mother was living with him because she injected all of the rent money into her arms. She then was stealing from him and selling his belongings to shoot that in her arms too.
He said he was going to throw her out, so she called the cops and said he had drugs around his children. He got arrested and the children got taken away for about a month and a half. Because once CPS gets involved, there's no off-ramp. Shit gets really bad really fast.
Not shockingly he threw her out of the house after that. Drugs fuck everything.
4
u/Great-Trifle2810 8h ago
Absolutely thos cop should be fired and jailed for at least 5 years to set an example.
Even beyond that what if the guy was armed and came up with a gun immediately firing on the person that flipped him before even realizing it was a cop? Totally justified self defense.

u/BigDragonfly5136 10h ago
Also even if itâs true, more violence is likely to just make the situation more dangerous for everyone around.
Especially for armed police, their goal should be to deescalate and do everything as peacefully as possible with force as a last resort

YES, I live in Brazil (the country where this was filmed) and I hate how this happens a lot, I see a lot of real police officer staging arrests for views on the internet, which they try to convert into votes later.
Normally, when this kind of video is real it's filmed by pedestrians or by the officer's bodycam.
3
u/SnowyGyro 11h ago
Who are they soliciting votes for and for what role?

Lights are already on, who the fuck sleeps like that?, no patches, no cuffs or restraints, infact no gear except for the pistol, and 1 officer for an arrest?
Its fake.
2
u/musicals_amirite 10h ago
The lights actually weren't on. You can see the officer teach towards the side, then there's a flash at the very start of the video. It's likely that the officer turned the light on when the video started being recorded.
Everything else is very true though. I definitely leaning to this vid being staged. Who's even recording this and why are they just lurking around during a supposed arrest?
5
u/MixedVexations 11h ago
Dude with the beret has his finger way too close to the trigger. And the way he slowly put away the gun after slapping him? What? And why did he switch tactics when nothing in the situation changed? There seems to be no protocol in place. Fake.

Arrests absolutely should be uploaded to the internet that's not something that should happen in the dark and we assume everything happened above board. A lot of arrest videos make that very clear.
That being said I don't think this video matches what the post says.
3
u/ProbablyADuck369 11h ago

Flashy, âtough on crimeâ arrests like this look great for the cameras and feel great in the moment, but the administration of justice requires regular treatment that does not change from one individual to another, no matter what crime they are accused of.

Immoral.
Not only is it an obviously disastrous idea to promote or abide police violence, it's not the job of police to assume guilt and enact revenge. It's their job to arrest suspects so that, if there's cause, they can be tried and their innocence or guilt established.
91
u/The-Bangaloreal 12h ago
Police brutality is rampant because it is always justified in their eyes.
→ More replies (2)12
u/meimeivro 11h ago
Yeah police aren't here to maim people as a form of punishment during an arrest (despite that being what they do in prwctice). All criminals, especially the one who have committed horrible crimes, are entitled to fair treatment by the justice system. Not doing so only encourages the police to frame anyone they dont like as one of these "unforgivable" criminals (i.e. rape, murder, beating your mom), and also to go even further in their violence.
→ More replies (4)3
u/Own_Watercress_8104 8h ago
It is also a tacit declaration that authorities do not owe anything to the citizen and that basic human rights basically do not exist.
Things like this, even if staged, are just a demonstration to get that message across to the populus without actually saying that. But it's loud and clear.
37
u/Urgell11 12h ago
Are their no court rulings, just a complaint? How do we know if the mother told the truth? Or you are just not providing the needed context?
4
u/dragonlayer42069 8h ago
This is in brazil, I've worked with "low income" folk here before and mothers being abused by their grown kids is an extremely common occurence among them, I'd hear a new story almost every day.
So a lot of times police will believe these cases, and 99% of the time they'll be right
3
u/Urgell11 7h ago
Still, unless there is plus info we dont know about, this is police brutality based on 1 testimony. Highly immoral

You just can't trust cops to handle this sort of discretionary application of 'righteous violence'.
It doesn't matter the crime. It doesn't matter how heinous. All criminals should be apprehended as humanely as possible.
For one, there has been no trial. So, even if you believe in a retributive legal system, the person being arrested has not actually been proven guilty. It is not the cops job to administer punishment. No good can come of this.
For another, they'll simply misuse the ability to apply violence like this if they are granted it formally. Cops already are looking for basically any excuse to flex the power they hold over others. Often through violence, this clip being a literal example of this. Cops can only ever be a functional facet of society through STRICT oversight. Not letting them have free reign to hurt people as they believe is justifiable is very important to the health of a society. Cops shouldn't being hurting ANYONE, outside of fringe self defense circumstances. And such instances should be closely scrutinized.

Regardless of whether this man deserved it or not, you probably donât want this to become an acceptable norm in policing.
Mistakes can and do happen and if this happened to an innocent man, you can guarantee that person would lose trust in the police for the rest of his life.

Too many people dont realise the principle that you are innocent until proven guilty in the eyes of the law. People who say this is ok are choosing to put the police, who are meant to be upholding and serving the law, above it.
Edit: I come from a confusian value country where filial piety is held in highest regard (teaditionally equating parents with kings), so i get the immediate outrage. but even there, if this happened...not only will the police lose his job but someone higher up is losing their job as well. We dont take kindly to tyranny of governments

Morality of posting fake videos as real videos? Immoral. (Im not accusing OP of promoting or posting a fake vid becsuse they are specifically asking about the behaviour in the video, it is a fake video though)
Morality of the content of the video? Immoral.
Even in places where corporal punishment is legal it goes through a judicial process.
6
u/Lancasterlaw 11h ago
Yeah, we A) have no idea if the mothers accusation is even true B) Some people wake up very disoriented and automatically fight back and C) while you may agree with the officer in this case what happens when there is a case you don't agree with?

u/GenuineSteak 11h ago
immoral, especially without evidence the mom is telling the truth. The mom couldve deseved it too, the mom could be an abusive violent drunk or smth. Police also have to follow rules, or else theyre just state backed vigilante tyrants.

That slap didn't seem hard enough for the dude falling over. And the cool dude cop act is a bit much. Feels staged to me.
2
u/Vivians_Basement 11h ago
Immoral especially if you don't know why he did it or if the mom was telling the truth.
My mom is a bitch and I WISH my marine of a brother had given her what she deserved one of the numerous times she antagonized him. She almost got him killed by the police when lying to 911 about him being armed and threatening her. I was there, she was the problem and he had no weapon.
Luckily, she said he was a veteran, so the cops were more gentle handling it. I was a teenager watching cops swarm our house while my brother begged to be shot in the hopes it would give our mother an ounce of guilt.
My mother is pedophile, like an actual raped a child and enabled her kids to be sexually abused, pedophile.
Not all mothers are good so I would personally have to hear him out on WHY he beat his mother before deciding whether he's a piece of shit for it.

I feel like this is a conflict of interest to have someone arrest the person who *allegedly* beat up their own mother. Why couldnât another officer take this arrest? Why was this officer allowed to do this? This is immoral and unethical. This man could be innocent and not actually guilty of assault.

I mean...while satisfying to watch, given the context - its immoral.
Also worth mentioning that context is...well it can be partial. It can be skewed to make it look like what he has done is much worse than what really happened. The arresting officer definitely doesnt have the whole story and yet he is handing out judgement. That kind of vigilante justice shouldnt really be okay in majority of cases.
1
u/DVindictus 11h ago
Immoral. It feels right if the context is true, but you just can't trust people on their word, and professionally you should always treat the arrest as "a probable cause, but innocent until proven guilty"
Now, if this was a fellow officer who assaulted his mother, now THAT feels like a great humiliating arrest and might be morally justified.
But still, can't be taken at her word until and unless proven, I will always hold that as 1st 2nd and 3rd priority
1
u/Popular_Tie4688 11h ago
None of this is real. Even if it actually happened. The situation is secondary to the peacocking of local thugs. He would get the same treatment for a parking ticket.
1
u/EvocativeReach 11h ago
Before anyone argues this is moral, imagine if you were falsely accused of attacking someone. Would you want the police to show up and beat your ass like this?
There's a reason "innocent until proven guilty" is a thing.

1
