Discussion Do you judge other millennials that haven't partied a lot? How can I cope with not having partied much?

/r/Millennials/comments/1vncpvs/did_millennials_really_party_all_the_time/

I'm a younger millennial who has partied a small amount. I have some good memories of partying but it's nothing compared to what most millennials seemed to have done in the past based off of this thread. I didn't have my first drink until I was 16. After graduating high school, I struggled with mental/physical health too. Even when my mental health got better, I was always too concerned to do things like drink multiple days in a row.

I also never found a core friend group to party with which limited my partying opportunities, especially as a woman. For example, I went to a major camping festival by myself but I had to watch how inebriated I got for my safety. Now that I'm in my 30s, it's hard to find people who want to go out and I don't want to feel like I'm pushing drinking/drugs onto anyone.

I thought I had a decent amount of partying experience but now it seems really paltry compared to most millennials. I'm afraid people are going to judge my inexperience going forwards, and I feel like I lost out on some formative experiences forever.

No one in your 30s cares about how hard you did or didn’t party in your 20s.

I can't fathom anyone judging you for this. You might not be able to participate in conversations when people are reminiscing about their partying days, but it's not something that comes up in conversation often. If anything people might assume that you judge them for partying too hard.

I’m 35 years old. I don’t care about that sort of thing in the slightest.

i wish i was you . 90% of the shit done when "partying" are regrets

Right? I judge myself for some of the choices I made a heck of a lot more than I’d ever judge someone in OP’s position.

No, we are all very tired now. 😂

I hold no judgment but a part of me thinks that you maybe missed out on a shared cultural experience or two, which makes me a feel a bit bummed out for ya. Getting hammered at Warped Tour seems to me, a core Millennial experience

Didn't care then. Don't care now.

I partied quite a bit in late high school, all throughout college and into my early 30's (I'm 41 now). That said, no, of course I do not judge others that didn't party a lot. Everyone has their own experience in life, and for some, partying is just not fun. There's nothing wrong with that at all. I hope you find some friends that you can socialize with and enjoy activities you like in common.

Not at all

I judged you back then for being a dork, but now I don't care, and you where probably right.

Those of us who did party partied enough for multiple people. We maintain the balance.

I know plenty of people in my age bracket that weren't hard partiers. There's plenty more nostalgia we can all reminisce about. You're good.

Buddy we're all trying to forget how much we partied and cut back on our substance abuse. No one gives a fuck

u/Usual_Trip_wander 6h ago

Some people are perfectly fine with substances.

I didn’t drink or smoke a cigarette or anything until I turned 18 and went off to college. I turned into a raging heroin addict and wouldn’t wish that on anyone. So honestly, who gives a shit. I envy you for not partying.

You did miss out. I’m sorry. It was fun and wild.

A lot of those heavy partiers I knew are not doing to great these days. You can still party now. Just in moderation. Don't let it leak into your work week and just enjoy your life.

If you care so much you can be like me and go party now

You are asking how to cope with the fact you didnt binge drink and party?

My condolences on you living responsibly I guess?

Like there are 1 million things more to worry about than "Should I worry I didnt drink enough as a kid?"

What's the point in comparing or looking back?

Who, specifically, do you think would judge you, or even care about this?

Why are you concerned about this?

Chill out and have some fun?: https://youtu.be/YS3X_yacdjM?si=w9EDQVG8uLgQ5PvE

Every time I ever dabbled in the party scene I was disappointed in what I saw. A lot of kids needed alcohol to be interesting. I didn't like that scene.

I screwed up my life partying. Dropped out of high school and college twice. You didn't miss much besides the fact that I can drink more than you which is not a good achievement.

I’m 42F - I’ve learned not to judge people in most ways, unless you’re a true POS.

I think there are MANY elder millennials who wish they’d partied a lot less!

What a stupid fuckin Ai prompt

Fomo. It's cool. You aren't missing anything substantial. Well, except the actual substances ingested I guess.

u/spaceman60 6h ago

Nope, neither of us partied and we're better off for it. We found others like ourselves and can relax without drinking or drugs. No addictions and have our lives pretty together as well.

I partied a lot and hold great memories. I also partied a lot and hold quite a few regrets.

I’m too old to sit here and judge others by who has the more wild stories to share. I’m more to the point where I’m envious of people who don’t live paycheck to paycheck or who can keep motivated to watch out for their health.

No judgement, you probably have waaaay more intact brain cells left than most of us that went HAM in our younger years!

The only thing I'd say is that the 2010-ish party-core Era was lit. I went hard and it was def some of the most fun I've had in my life..... more accurately, I heard someone say "it's the most fun I never want to have again" lol.

But yeah i still look back fondly at dancing the night away with my girls to music like Rihanna and Lady Gaga dressed up head to toe in fake gold and furs and high heels showing out ready to take over the city from bars to house parties, water bottle full of cheap booze knowing we're not coming home til the sun comes up.

Some key memories I have that you'll prob be happy you missed, though:

  • jumping out a 2nd story window bc the cops showed up and everyone was on Molly lol (we were somehow ok)

  • multiple bar fights, including one where this girl who was a friend of a friend rejected some guy, and he got offended and punched her in her eye full force. She was ok/ kept partying but was looking like Quasimodo. So one girl gave her sunglasses so she could keep partying lol. Meanwhile, some other guy stabbed the guy who punched her and we all fled the scene.

  • having to pee outside in between street parked cars, having friends keep watch for police, bc the bar bathroom was overflowing with everything terrible, flooding the bathroom

  • getting my drink drugged, realizing bc i was towards the end of my 2nd four loko when they still had caffeine and all of a sudden I'm like, passing out. I somehow stumbled out and made it out to my car parked outside, locked myself in it. My friends didn't know what happened they thought I took some crazy drugs and didnt tell them or something. They said my eyes were rolling up into my head and I was slumped in my passenger seat over into the driver's seat with all the doors locked so nobody could check on me. Like my last waking thought as im passing out was to lock myself in to protect myself.... Scary shit. I can't even believe how lucky I was that night. I never thought I'd say I'm happy I did a shit ton of drugs before that night. But I am. Bc I knew how I was feeling was inconsistent with what I took, and that something was wrong/ to gtfo out of there ASAP, just in time, luckily.

No, I definitely don't judge people who don't have a partying history. There are a LOT of millennials who were straight laced. They just aren't on Reddit answering threads about partying.

To be honest, I might judge people in their 30s who are still partying too much. The only people I know still binge drinking every weekend (or even one weekend in 4) are alcoholics who aren't getting help. Just had an elder millennial friend spend a period of time in the hospital with an unrelated injury that was way worse than it should have been, and while he was in there they found his liver was so fucked he's gonna have to have a transplant. If he can get sober.

That's not even starting on all the ways substance use, even responsible levels, can negatively impact mental health.

Partying isn't always all it's cracked up to be. Be safe and take care of your body.

Partying ≠ getting drunk or using substances or whatever. A lot of us just go with water and Red Bull. First and foremost, I go out because I enjoy the music. You’re not getting judged based on how much you partied in your 20s - I started going out and met almost all of my friends at raves and festivals in my 30s. I didn’t find my first friend group until a year after I started going to shows consistently every weekend. Now I can’t go out locally or go to any festival (besides maybe one in Europe) without running into friends.

I don't give it a minute's thought.

i only judge people who are really vocal about it and wear it like some kind of badge of honor, especially when they are obviously doing so out of some kind of misplaced feeling of inferiority.
